He was right on time for my afternoon appointment.
My garage door is a super heavy, solid wood door and was impossible to open, due to a broken cable. I have had my door serviced before, but lucky for me, this time around I selected Craig.
Craig is very knowledgeable about garage doors, door openers and safety features.. He reset the pressure of my door, which was cranked really high. A safety issue, especially if a child would try to ride it. So now, if you hold onto the door with about 10 pounds of pressure, it will stop. Plus, he educated me about how the stops for the door works and suggested what to look for in our next door opener.
Craig replaced the garage door track wheels, now our rollercoaster sounding garage door is silienced. It is amazing how the door glides open and close...so quiet, so smooth.
What I really appreciated were his bi-annual maintenance tips that I can do myself, and why it would help prevent maintenance calls. He is definitely on my list to recommend to people.
I have used Craig for other handyman type work and he is always professional, responsive and completes the work with a high degree of quality. I called him for this project and he came over right away to do a design for a non-standard sized doorway of cement block to close it off with a dutch door. I am only planning to use this room for minor purposes, so wanted to keep the cost down as much as possible. Craig always keeps that in mind, without sacrificing quality. He drew up a design for a dutch door with a sidelight of glass.
The design was completed as expected and within his estimate provided. I am very happy with the result and will use him again in the future. As Craig says, if he can't do the work, he'd at least like the first opportunity to turn it down.
I asked around and a friend recommended Craig with Ohio Residential Door. He was able to meet me literally the next day. He was AWESOME. He walked me through what was happening and told me the challenges with the door. He then told me how we could fix it, but also gave the option for a new door. I mean, I could literally tear the old door with my bare hands (and while I'd like to think I am super strong, I'm not THAT strong).
What I appreciated about Craig was he never pressured me into a new door. In fact, he called the next day to make sure that's the option I wanted to pursue because he didn't want his recommendation to seem like a high pressure sale.
He completed the work in one day BY HIMSELF. He also talked to my elderly neighbors - and THEY raved about him. They told me - that was the nicest guy ever. And he really is. I can't say enough about Craig - professional, competent, and put in a really nice door. It is obvious the door is better quality than my old door - much sturdier.
Craig followed up the next week just to make sure that the door was working properly and that I was satisfied.
I would recommend Craig and Ohio Residential Door 100x over.
I called on a Monday, and he managed to squeeze us in for an assessment by the end of that day. He had a look at the door springs, too, noticing they could use some serious adjustment. He explained the relative merits of different door openers, showing me the model he would supply but pointing out I could get something cheaper at a store. It was fine w/ him if I wanted to go price-shopping and/or buy the opener myself. I thought the product he supplies looked great, much better than the typical opener (e.g., the track is one solid piece instead of 3, typical of models sold in stores) and with more features, for only a little more $. I don't have a lot of time for this kind of price comparison, and was happy to go w/ his product.
He already had a full schedule for the week, but promised he'd keep looking for an opportunity to fit us in. He actually called the very next evening, to try for Wed. a.m. first thing, but we were out and didn't get the msg in time. He did try again and we scheduled for late Thurs. afternoon. The door springs were a bit of a pain to adjust; he ended up being here about 2-1/2 hrs, only because he was bending over backward to get everything right.
The new opener is terrific, we love it; came w/ two car remotes *and* an outdoor keypad which he mounted on the garage door frame. It has several great security features as well.
We noticed by the next day that the door was slightly out of whack after a few uses-- one side higher than the other, probably because of the old door springs. Craig had already called to make sure everything was OK, so I called him back and he came out pretty quickly-- within a day, I think-- to work on the springs some more, at no add'l charge. He made another follow-up call a week or two later, too.
If the old garage door breaks down before we get around to replacing it :-), we'll definitely call Craig. Great guy, great work!
Great - I could not be happier with his service and his knowledge of what he was doing.
