The visits with both of my doctors went fine. I love my primary care doctor. I found out that the pulmonologist has no clue who I am. The pulmonologist referred me for a CT scan to hunt for lung cancer "just in case." The first time I met her, I had been out of the hospital for two weeks, and she told me I needed to accept that I would never be any better than I was right then. There's a fine line between being realistic and taking away somebody's hope. I AM better than I was when I got out of the hospital. I would like a doctor who is a partner in my continued improvement -- who believes in me.
Anyway, I have recently become unemployed, and we are still paying off the portion of my hospital bill that was not covered by insurance. I asked if the test was absolutely necessary. I was told it was to set a good base for the future. When the pre admission authorization person from Ohio Health called, I asked her to let me know how much money I had to bring to the test. She would not tell me. She said she could not do so until she had gone through the entire pre admission process and confirmed my insurance coverage. I told her to cancel the appointment.
A few days later, I took my mother to see her doctor at Millhon and they gave her a "memory test." The doctor called me a few days later to suggest that my mother see a neurologist for her memory, because she scored a 20 (out of 30). My mother is an avid reader and appears to be retaining what she reads. From my experience taking care of elderly people, retention of NEW information does NOT indicate dementia (Mom is 77). Oh, did I mention that "specialist" visits cost twice as much as "regular" doctors?
Since Ohio Health took over, I feel like they're trying to spend as much as they can. Appointments are now every three months, instead of every six. Tests are "bigger" and more expensive. Differentiating an office visit by regular doctor and "specialist" to charge twice as much for the "specialist" is ridiculous, especially since the general practice doctor needs to have more knowledge of the overall person than the "specialist." And what is so special about a "specialist" who doesn't recognize his/her patients?
Last, but not least, there has been a HUGE turnover in staff, and not for the better. Staff is tense, unhappy, and get defensive or argumentative if questioned. I have even had staff talk over me while I am trying to ask a question... I haven't figured out whether that is a tactic to ignore the patient, or drown them out.
This is really sad. Millhon used to be a place I would have held up to ANY medical office as the model for how things should be done. As part of Ohio Health? It's just not cutting it.
\My wish for an online patient system will be met early in 2014. I am used to getting lab results and ordering RX's that way. Dr. Thompson told me to call the office if I have a need for an RX prior to my appointment.
A good experience all in all.
Very short wait.
Out quickly.
Time with Dr is right on point.
Dr B. walks you to the door when finished.
