From the moment Jim showed up for the estimate, I could tell he was someone I wanted to work on my home. He took his time measuring, was quick to give a quote and responsive to all questions throughout the process. On the day of installation, he and Jerry arrived as they said they would – and for the rest of that week, they came on time and did their work. Exactly what a homeowner wants. There were no calls to say, “Hey, we’re running behind on another job.” They did what they said they would do. Now, for the results. As a Real Estate Appraiser, I've seen plenty of shoddy work from sub-par contractors and I am pleased to report there was no sub-par work here. The floors came out beautifully. Smooth, straight and without error. The trim work was exceptional as well. (Though they caulked the joints and nail holes on the woodwork, do be prepared to add a bit of spackle and a dab of paint – which would need done regardless of who installed the trim.) I highly recommend McCool Floors for your next flooring project!

For an Installation that started with obstacles because the gypcrete subfloor crumbled in the kitchen and part of the hallway, Jim McCool stayed cool and resolved the problem perfectly. We discussed no less than four alternatives and as events unfolded, we landed on what was shown to be the best option. The 850 sq ft of Somerset engineered hardwood flooring with cork underlayment was perfectly installed and the companion work - quarter round and door trim - was equally perfect. Jim and his assistant, Jerry, are both craftsmen and genuinely nice fellows who took their time to do it right. Additionally they were meticulous in their cleanup, leaving the area looking good, along with other detailed things they did such as adding felt pads to all the furniture and returning the half dozen larger furniture items to their original spots. Contractors are measured in three ways: quality of work; fair pricing; and trustworthiness/dependability. We’d hire McCool again which is the best recommendation I can give.

We hired Jim to replace our hardwood floors with new hardwood. He and his helper Jerry did a fantastic job. Their work ethic is impeccable!! We would highly recommend McColl Floors!

This is our second time to have new flooring installed by Jim McCool and his team. The entire process from start to finish was exceptional! I have recommended Jim's company to several friends and family members. Our flooring looks amazing! They do TOP QUALITY work and provide excellent customer service. I had the opportunity to also work with Jerry this time and he did an awesome job!

I would first like to apologize to Jim for taking so long to add my review. I have used McCool floor's multiple times in my previous home and now in my new place this past December 2017. The quotes are competitive and when comparing to other companies, you cannot get better service. This company is very dedicated to doing a good job, attending to details, getting the job done on time, and cleaning up afterward. I get so many comments on my new floor. It is not only the materials, but the workmanship that are appreciated. They had to build trim around in front of my tiled fireplace and it looks incredible. Thank you so much to Jim and team for helping my both of my homes look so great. I would not hesitate to recommend them. Since it is a small company, don't be surprised that it takes you some time to get scheduled. If you want a job done well, it is worth the wait. Being busy means that they are doing a good job because people are hiring them!

Jim and his associate arrived on time every day, cleaned up as they went along, and left everything in order at the end of each day. Their work exceeded our expectations and was completed on schedule. They were professionals in every way.

This is my second time using McCool Floors – same great job and great experience again. I’m just going to summarize here -- see my 1/19/2017 review for full details. They did an outstanding job and I highly recommend them. The cost stated is for the entire job – included $2,900 to McCool (installation and StareCasing materials) and $2,600 for all other materials.

Awesome! It's beautiful, professionally finished and well done. The only reason that the price is a B is because no one wants to spend that much, but you do get what you pay for...

I would probably give Jim an A+ if I could. That's how happy & excited I was about the project & finished results. He is meticulous & certainly gifted at what he does. Also very nice to work with & very responsive. It takes a little while for him to schedule because he is so busy, but couldn't be happier with the results! He also did a great job of matching the wood to existing hardwood on the ground floor adjoining the stairs. Amazing craftsmanship. Highly recommend.

They did an absolutely outstanding job and I highly recommend them. McCool Floors is a small company that is the type I love to do business with. Owner Jim McCool has been installing flooring for 20 years. His only assistant, Jerry, has worked with him that whole time. As I watched them, it was evident their primary concern was doing the job right – a quality install is their focus, not doing the minimum so they can rush to the next job. I’m a hard grader and to me, the quality of their work was outstanding. Jim and Jerry are very professional, pleasant and easy to work with. Due to an overhanging trim piece, the stairs conversion was not straightforward, but Jim knew immediately how to handle it (a “major flooring chain” I talked to would not touch it – I’d have to get a third party to resolve it before their install; additionally, their hardwood installers don’t “do” carpet, so they wanted $150 for their “carpet guys” to come out for a three foot transition!). Unlike the big chains using sub-contractors who can only do a basic install, Jim has seen it all, done it all, is very flexible and can get the complete job done in a quality manor. The process included: • Jim came out, measured and answered all (a lot!) of my questions – never rushed me and we had a very pleasant, professional discussion. • Upon selecting him, we set an install date and they stuck to that (took 3 days total). • I had the hardwood delivered and let it acclimate on-site. • Jim custom stained the StareCasing, floor vents and shoe – a very nice match job. • Checked moisture content of hardwood and sub-flooring to insure compatible. • Moved big furniture (we did the small items and contents). • Removed and hauled away existing carpet, pad and tack strips. • Installed felt underlayment. • Installed flooring and StareCasing (removed/reinstalled trim piece) – all major cutting done outside. • Transitions included to existing hardwood (removed one existing piece, so first new piece would install without face nailing), tile, brick fireplace hearth and carpet. • Installed shoe to existing baseboard. • Puttied all nails holes. • Thoroughly cleaned up and replaced furniture. Note that McCool Floors only installs – they do not sell materials (except StareCasing, which is Jim’s creation). I purchased the flooring, shoe and underlayment separately – was actually a plus, as I could shop around for the best price. The cost stated is for the entire job – included $3,900 to McCool (installation and StareCasing materials) and $3,200 for all other materials. Note that as a small company, Jim doesn’t answer his cell phone on a job – just leave a message, be a bit patient and he’ll get back to you in a reasonable amount of time. I assure you, it’ll be well worth the wait – this is a top notch outfit.

The flooring transformed our room, and we are so pleased with the work that was done.  The baseboards are a perfect match, they are installed perfectly, and we are very happy with the attention to detail and professional skill of the staff and owner.  We would highly recommend this company to anyone who wants wood flooring installed.  I really appreciated the time and skill that it took to match the stain so perfectly, and all the work that was done.

The work went outstanding. Jim is professional and knows what he is doing! He did a fantastic job installing the new flooring throughout our second floor. His attention to detail is great and he is very efficient. He is prompt and shows up when he says he will.

Met Jeff and awaited his estimate.  He has clients call and order the products 1st (Panel Town delivers them to home). He had an unexpected cancellation, so that was perfect for me!  I was never home, so I never met his crew, but they worked quickly and efficiently--I think they may have left my living room cleaner than it was when they got there!  It took 2 days, there was no mess whatsoever, and it is gorgeous.  If I'd known cost would be so reasonable, I would have done this years ago!

The owner came by and measured and discussed a lot of things I hadn't known about/considered, such as the door casing.  I had never had wood floors before, and learned a lot from talking to him.  He spent all the time I needed and answered lots of questions.  I was impressed by his knowledge and kindness, and with that of his staff.  The two men that installed the floor were professional, friendly and hard-working.  They installed the flooring and trim all in one day.  The baseboards look PERFECT and are gorgeous.  They match the flooring perfectly.  They were custom done by the staff and owner, and I couldn't be happier with the way they look.  The staff were very detail oriented and even shaved some of the closet doors to make them align more easily with the trim.  What a difference they made in the room!  I am very happy with the work that was done, 100% pleased.  I would highly recommend this company.

When scheduling initial install, teams would simply not show up when promised.  There were some initial challenges with the moisture levels in the house, and there was a period of checking this.My request at the time was for the owner to call me to provide status and when a team might come back to the house. I never received any calls, yet they would show up at my home unannounced. At one point, I was arriving home to find them leaving. It was at this point I requested the owner to contact me to let me know when I should expect a team at my house. I never did get any direct calls on this matter. My voicemails went unanswered.

The install team was great. Courteous, and the work performed was of high quality. During demo, prior water damage to the subfloor around the front entryway was revealed. The owner explained that the permanent boards around this area could not be installed until a new door was installed. An interim solution was applied at the time.

Since installing the door, I have called the owner numerous times, He did call once, and I I did speak to him although he did not recall the situation about the front door. We agreed that I would send him pictures, and he would call me back. I sent the pictures to him, however, I have not heard from the owner since. Additionally, there was a flush floor vent that was on back order that was to be delivered, and still do not have that.  In both cases, the invoices are fully paid.

When we decided to remodel our kitchen, flooring was an afterthought.  We had existing ceramic tile and were concerned that its removal would be both a hassle and risk to our walls, doors and cabinets.  But we soon decided that a hardwood alternative would make a significant impact on the overall project.  We interviewed about a half dozen contractors, most of whom had pros and cons.  But once we talked with Jim and shared our vision we knew we had the right company.  Jim was extremely knowledgeable and transparent right from the start.  We discussed our concerns with him and he walked us through the process and how his team would protect our house and deliver superior craftsmanship.  It took Jim and a crew of several just one day to remove the old tile.  They diligently protected our home with plastic, cardboard and padding.  Brian led the installation of the new scraped hickory hardwood.  His experience and knowledge was evident from the start.  He kept us informed of what he was doing and spent time with us to discuss our questions as the project proceeded.  Including the tile removal, it took one week to complete the install and transform our floor.  Not only was the process quick, but Jim and his team honored the schedule they committed to; both as an entire project and on a daily basis.  Once complete, the attention to detail was evident.  Jim was there at the end to ensure that we were satisfied with the job.  He shared his experience on how to protect and maintain the floor and provided us with some valuable hints.  We have another flooring project in our future and know we will turn to Jim and his company to do the work.  Since the install, many friends and family have commented on how beautiful our floor looks and we are just thrilled with the result.  We have passed along Jim's information to several friends and will continue to do so.  

One of the best if not the best experience with a contractor I have ever had. Every person on Jim's crew is fantastic. The work was performed ahead of schedule and the attention to detail was very impressive. Everything turned out even better than we had expected and you can tell that they take great pride in their work. I would and will recommend Jim and his crew to anyone who ask me about flooring. In fact, my mother was so impressed that she had them install all new hardwood throughout her entire house (which also turned out fantastic). Thanks Jim.

The job went very well.  They arrived when they said they would. They cleaned up after they were finished. They knew what they were doing.  It took two days to complete the job. The floors look great. They gave us hints on how to care for the floor and clean it.
They were professional, courteous, and considerate.

First let me say I've put off having hardwood installed because of all the horror stories I've heard from friends and people at work but, McCool floors installed vinyl plank flooring in my sons house and my son said it was the best experience he's ever had with a contractor. I have to say my son was right.
I have an older home with some "quirks" and Jim took the time to explain everything and give me options with the pros and cons. The crew was fabulous. They were clean and really cared about the quality of work they did, and the attention to detail were great. The floors really look like they could be original to the house - the detail is that good.
I have two bedrooms with hardwood that needs to be refinished and I'll defiantly be calling Jim.

The floor by the sink has lifted up and they want to come out and fix it but at my expense. I don't think I should have to pay them to come back and fix that job. He should have been more considerate if he valued my business. I wanted him to change the flooring in my bathroom and now I don't feel comfortable doing that.
