MATTRESS MART

First mattress was not as we saw in store. First mattress was returned, and it was delivered late. Brought a replacement mattress but never got delivered because they missed the first time frame for delivery and now I think they are out of business.

Our initial experience at Mattress Mart was positive, at first, and we thought we were getting a really good deal. The salesperson assured us that we would be getting a "green" mattress that was 100% latex, which he could sell to us for less than $1,000 as a special deal, with free delivery and a free mattress cover that he claimed usually sold for $85. This seemed too good to be true, and as it turned out, it was. When we asked the salesperson for the mattress' specs, he said that there weren't any written-down specs. Though this seemed strange to us, the bed was really comfortable, and so we decided to place our order anyway. When we got home, we had second thoughts, and my husband did some internet research. He couldn't find a mattress by this manufacturer that was 100% latex, so he called the salesperson back and asked him to confirm that he had provided us with the correct product information. Later that day, he returned our call and let us know that the mattress we had ordered was only 50% latex and 50% polyurethane, and since we felt like we'd been, at best, misinformed, and at worst, lied to, we canceled our order. Unfortunately, this wasn't the end of it. We bought another mattress from a different store and it was to be delivered on the same Thursday that we'd originally had Mattress Mart set up to deliver. The mattress arrived when I was on my way out of the door to go to work, instead of in the late afternoon as we'd anticipated, so I was in a rush when I signed off on the delivery. It wasn't until my husband arrived home later that day and looked at the tag on the bed that we realized Mattress Mart had accidentally delivered the mattress order that we had canceled, and we still had another mattress coming from the other store! My husband called Mattress Mart and talked to a different salesperson, who was very helpful and did not give us any trouble over the mistake. He was very pleasant and agreed to have someone pick up the mattress the next day, which they did, going out of their way to be there when my husband was home in the late afternoon. The price of $1,000 for the 50% latex/50% polyurethane mattress was a good one, but it wasn't what we thought we were buying and it wasn't what we wanted. The funny thing is, there was a $2,000 mattress in the store that was actually 100% latex, which we would have considered buying if the salesperson hadn't made the $1,000 mattress seem like such an amazing deal. If the salesperson was just misinformed, then that's one thing, but if he was lying to us just to try to make a sale, he really just caused himself to miss a potentially bigger sale. Just based on the one salesperson, I would have given the store a much lower rating, but we were so pleased with the resolution of the mattress delivery mix-up that we thought they deserved some credit. Also, their products seem to be of decent quality at a fairly decent price. So whatever you do, if you decide to shop there, just don't take the salesperson's word for anything. The $85 mattress cover that the Mattress Mart salesperson said he was throwing in for free was regularly priced at ~$35 at another mattress store, so that $85 price he quoted us was most definitely inflated. Shopping for a mattress is very similar to shopping for a car--buyer beware.

We sent our teenage son out to look at mattresses for himself. He had a $500.00 budget and was to go to several different stores, research what was available and make a selection. My wife and I said we would go ahead and purchase his selection. When he arrived at Mattress Mart, he told the salesman of his budget. The salesperson told him they had no mattresses in that price range. Strange, since their ad in that Sunday's paper listed sets as low as $198.00. Needless to say, we bought elsewhere.
