I used Irene Lane at Lewis & Michaels a couple of years ago to move a bedroom set and some high value collectibles from Columbus OH to my daughter in CT. It cost less than it would have cost to rent a U-Haul, never mind the time. Irene found a smaller truck that could get into our driveway, which can't accomodate a full size moving van, thus saving us the cost of moving the stuff to a depot and then reloading it on a big truck. The movers were right on time, did an extremely professional job of loading and protecting the furniture and high value breakables, delivered exactly on time, and unloaded and set up everything for my daughter. It was a WOW experience, and best of all, it cost about a third LESS than the quote which was very reasonable to begin with.
So when it was time to move us from Columbus to NC last fall, I went looking for Irene again, and Lewis & Michaels, an Atlas Van Lines mover, which was all I could remember, found her immediately. She found me the same moving person with the same truck I had used before. They packed for us, loaded and delivered immediately, so we were without our bed only 2 nights. Another WOW experience and again about 1/3 less than the estimate. Plus we had them bring down one of our cars as a partial load, on another enclosed truck for a very reasonable price.
Having completed construction of my husband's new shop, horse barn and very big equipment shed here in NC, we are now moving the rest - my kennel, the barn, my husband's auto maintenance shop and all our farm equipment, and you guessed it, the same mover and truck and again a great price.
Getting a mover is perilous. The business is full of brokers who lie, cheat and generally take their victims to the cleaners, and use truckers you wouldn't want to wish on your worst enemy (this is now a deregulated industry, which means it is open season on the inexperienced; you have ZERO PROTECTION from the crooks and scammers). We have moved a lot over the years. Finding a company like Lewis and Michaels, and especially Irene Lane is one in a million.
