I needed a refinish on 6 levels of our wooden stairs that were deeply scuffed from our dog running up and down the stairs.
They were prompt every day (it was a 3 day job adding stain/gloss coats). They cleaned up after the job each day and it was spotless. They matched the stain beautifully. I have tile instead of hard wood floors so the only reason I didn't rate the cost is because I have no idea what the going rate is to restore damaged areas. I paid 950.00 and I'm thrilled with the results so I couldn't ask for more than that outcome.
I highly recommend!
We ended up getting quotes from 5 different companies. In the end the decision to go with Lasting Impressions was an easy one. The price was competitive, and our first experience with Ted was incredible. After spending 45 minutes with him to show him around our house, it was clear that he valued customer service as he took extra time to explain options, expectations, and the nature of the work that would be required to restore these floors. It was also immediately clear that he is just genuinely a good person, that he takes pride in his work and has great attention to detail, and that he was not in this business to take advantage of people but rather to make an honest living and provide a quality service for those in need. The last thing that really sealed the deal was the amount of reviews that confirmed our first impression of Ted and his crew and also touted their ability to match the stain on old boards and new boards (which was a necessity for us). In fact, there were other contractors who told us it couldn't be done and that we should just put down new floors throughout the house (this would have been very expensive and would not have maintained the original character of the house). Lasting Impressions proved them wrong.
The team did not disappoint. Throughout the 10 day process of reviving these floors (we weren't living in the house yet so we just gave them the keys and told them to work on it when their schedule allowed), they treated the house as if it were their own and left it cleaner than when we handed the keys over. As if the initial state of the floor wasn't enough of a challenge, Ted and his team handled a handful of curve balls that were thrown along the way:
Curveball #1: The places where the previous owners had stained AROUND area rugs rather than just picking them up (we know...dumb) caused a lot of problems. Because of the way they had been treated the difference in color just would not come up after multiple rounds of deep sanding with rock paper. For anyone else this would have been a game ender, but Ted and his team were able to artistically blend the two colors together as good as you could hope to the point where you would never notice the differences unless you knew they were there and stared at them for 30 seconds.
Curveball #2 & #3: Throughout the two weeks that the Lasting Impressions team was working, we were also doing construction on the rest of the house. This included tearing down walls, refinishing closets, and tearing out shoe molding. A couple of times our meddling resulted in more work for the Lasting Impressions team and in one case actually resulted in them having to redo some finishing work that had already been done. In all cases Ted was very understanding and continued to work through the additional challenges. As for the closets, we added about 130 square feet of pine flooring ourselves halfway through the job to save some money, and Ted and his team did all the sanding and finishing for us. I am pretty convinced that Ted would have done this without charging us (because that is the kind of guy he is) or at least not charging us the market price for this mid-job change, but I insisted that we agree on a new price to account for the extra work that we had added for his team.
In the end we couldn't be happier. Ted worked with us to find the perfect stain color by laying down patches, sanding them up, and then laying them down again after we requested some adjustments. This iterative process is a great selling point as I imagine most contractors just throw down a stain and you are stuck with however it comes out. The Lasting Impressions team was also able to blend the new and old boards with artistic perfection, as well as cover up the area rug blotches as mentioned previously. They pulled as many nails and screws out as they could without damaging the floors, filled in large and small holes throughout the house, and finished the floors with the attention to detail that you would put in if you were able to do it yourself. They even went the extra mile to patch boards that weren't discussed in the original quote, and build a custom front-door step-down for us (again not in the original quote/discussion).
This is the best investment that we have made in this old house so far. The craftsmanship displayed by Ted and his team have turned this old house into a completely new home, and I am sure that every dollar we have payed and more will be returned in the value of the house. If you are going to spend money getting your hardwood floors done, get them done right, and go with Lasting Impressions. Enjoy the before and after pictures (see if you can guess which are before and which are after!)
Rick took two to three days to install the floor - which is a little longer than normal because of the narrower boards as well as the entrance requiring some ?toothing?. Ted and Brian took three days to sand and apply two coats of poly.
Another positive about Lasting Impressions is their communication. Ted ALWAYS returns your calls and ALWAYS keeps you apprised of the schedule. They really care about giving you a floor you?ll love. I would recommend them to anyone wanting good customer service and beautiful hardwood floors.
When work began on my floors, there were three spots where old registers had been located but replaced with plywood when carpeting had been installed. Rick took out some of the flooring in those areas and laid new hardwood. He's very skilled at what he does because the new blends in with the old beautifully. Ted and Brian then proceeded to sand, buff, then coat the floors with two applications of polyurethane. The results are beautiful. I was worried the color would be too orange or to brown or too something, so Ted took the time to apply a couple of small sample areas for me to consider. He also had suggestions for different ways to spice up or tone down the colors. I wanted the floors to look natural so he advised going with the oil-based poly and no stain, which I did. Ted was right. It brings out the beautiful grain of the oak and the tones blend with the rest of the non-oak woodwork in the house. There was one very dark stain in the middle of the living room which Ted was able to work on and remove completely.
Ted, Brian, and Rick are all very competent, skilled and courteous flooring professionals. They take pride in their work which shows in the excellent results they achieve. One of my next projects will be the kitchen renovation and I will be contacting Ted and his team when it comes time to do the floors. I certainly recommend Lasting Impressions to anyone wanting beautiful hardwood floors!
Overall Ted and crew delivered as promised from start to finish. The crew was here when they said they would be, let me know what the days work entailed, and always cleaned up after the end of each day. The job was done in two parts - laying the new wood, then sanding and finishing.
A few points on Ted and his cousins:
    - Everyone knew what they were doing, and each had the attention to detail that Ted showed during the estimate.  Brian was able to get some wooden vents out of our existing floor that the previous maintenance coat had sealed in.  They also took the time to clean between each of the slats so that when reinstalled, they looked new.  They also numbered each vent and added a directional arrow so that when pulled in the future for cleaning, we'll know where they go AND which direction they face (important as they're sanded in place and will be level with the surrounding floor).
     - They enjoyed working with each other.  This isn't something I thought about at the beginning, but looking back seemed worth mentioning.  Related to this, they actually care about the finished product
     - Ted took the time to answer my questions, each time I asked.  Ted also asked repeatedly if we liked what we saw, and if everything was looking like we expected.
     -  They worked as if it was their own house, and wanted the job to look perfect.

A few points about the job:
     - The wood around all the door jams, and the connections to other rooms look great.  We connected to two rooms of carpet and two rooms of tile, and each look great.
     - We had existing shoe mold in our kitchen which was laid upside down (long side horizontal instead of vertical).  We we pulled up the existing shoe, it was obvious why - the wood laid in the kitchen left gaps and if the shoe was laid correctly, you would see the gaps.  I learned about this when I saw Brian fitting a small filler piece of wood into a gap during the install process.  There was no "hey, you've got this problem," just a fix.  Ultimately, there were two or three other places where gaps needed filled, and Ted filled them.
     - We had a hard time with picking a stain and finish, and Ted was patient and very helpful by putting down four initial color samples (and a fifth the next day as were were discussing options).   The samples and his explanation of how different types of wood absorb color differently helped us figure out what we liked and didn't, and ultimately what our finish would be.
     - The job was started and finished in the timing that was promised, and Ted was flexible enough to work with our family schedule.

Again, we're thrilled with the result.  When we're ready for the next project (stairs/bedroom), we'll call Ted.
