Took several days to repair. Computer hit by lighting... Needed a new mother board and power supply. When I brought it home I had to reset the screen resolution by downloading the driver and then a few weeks later I had to purchase a product key from newegg by buying a downloaded version of Windows Professional 7. I would suggest you go somewhere else for I was not happy. I will not be back.

Everything except for the follow through was good. There were some problems due to the fact that they were not too helpful in dealing with that. The price was very good I had shopped around online for the price of what a motherboard should cost. What they did was really good, they put the motherboard in, everything was connected right and everything was done fairly professionally. The responsiveness after wards was terrible. It took them a while to get a motherboard and they kept me up to date on that.

They were professional, polite, I think they did a good job, and the price was fair.  It took a lot of time like the diagnostic aspect.  I had to drop my laptop off and I did not even get a report on it for almost like a week so for almost week it was not being repaired, it was just being looked into and being tested out.  That was a little bit of waiting time but then after that they did a good job.

This is the second time we've used the Laptop Guy for this kind of repair.  They do a great job,  Very pleased with the result.
Fair price, reasonable timeframe for the repair, and good work.  They are very honest and up-front about what is involved and how long it will take.  Can be a little hard to reach by phone but very responsive to email.

called store, was given estimate, and told had store discount coupon available to save 40.00 off the original price of 219.00, was told in advance it would take up to 10 days to order part and 1 day to do the labor. it was done in 7, looked good and works great.

When I took my computer in and left it there, I got a call from them stating that my computer turned on and there was no problem after the diagnostics. I went to go pick it up and asked for a discount since there was nothing wrong.  The guy I was talking to told me that he would not give me a discount.  I asked him to call his manager to speak on the matter but the guy said no.  I had to ask several times for him to call the manager.  He finally called the manager and then when I asked the manager for a discount he said no as well and that they still have to charge because they did a diagnostic test. I understand that they had to charge me for the service because they did do some things but they didn't have to do any additional work due to nothing being wrong with my computer. My problem is that they wouldn't even listen to me.  They were not willing to work with me at all.  I expect to be treated well as a customer and this experience was not what I expect for customer service.  Their relationships with their clients are not personable at all and they do not care if I used them again.  I would have even been happy if they didn't discount my service at this time and gave me a coupon or discount for the next time if I had an issue.  They just didn't care.

"After 13 years in Central Ohio, The Laptop Guy takes great prides in the high level of personal service we offer our customers. I personally reviewed the circumstances regarding this service interaction. Our company’s $79 diagnostic labor fee is waived when a customer repairs, replaces, or recycles. It’s very rare for our customer to pay the $79 diagnostic fee, but in Member’s case we simply couldn’t reproduce the problem. Our diagnostic process is very thorough and in cases where the problem doesn’t reproduce we explored even further. Intermittent problems or issues that we are unable to reproduce are the most difficult and time intensive cases. Since we were unable to reproduce any problem with the laptop, we completed additional testing. Upon completion of the extra diagnostics, we were still unable to reproduce the problems that Member was experiencing. This type of case is rare, but to make sure that we provide for our customer’s needs, we offer a 30 day warranty on our diagnostics. In the event the customer experiences the problem again, we will happily take a look at no charge and if a problem is reproduced we apply the $79 diagnostic fee to a repair or replacement. This policy was explained to Elizabeth at intake, over the phone and again at pick up. I understand it can be frustrating to take your computer in for repair and then for that place not to be able to reproduce the problem. After reviewing our findings and explaining the diagnostic warranty, Member requested a discount. At no point did any of our employees just say “NO”. We explained our process and reiterated the warranty that we provide. It is much easier when we do fall short of delivering for our customers. In this case, we delivered our service and communicated before, during and after the costs and policies associated with that service As the owner of The Laptop Guy customer feedback is very important and if you have had service with our company and if you feel you can’t leave positive feedback please reach out to me at [email protected] with your concerns and what I can do to resolve any issues you may have had. I will look into your case and promptly respond. Please include your phone # as well."

I had two lap tops repaired by The Laptop Guy.  Both laptops had stopped running.  They were very reasonable and told me how long the job would take.  They called me with an estimate before they fixed them knowing the laptops were a little older.

I was not happy with their service.  My son's iPod  screen cracked.  I took it to Laptop Guy to be repaired.  They told me that it would be repaired to look brand new, like it was just taken out of the box.  I had to go back 4 times in an effort to try and get it right.  The last time, they put a different glass protector on it, which was different from the original iPod.  The screen performance was never improved.  They ended up refunding my money, but I was still unhappy with their service. With the time I spent going back and forth, I could have purchased a new iPod. They didn't do what they said they were going to do. I would not use them again.

I had brought in a laptop that that been actually serviced by someone else.  They had loaded it up with so much of free software even when I told them not to.  They were very professional and quite punctual.  They explained everything they were going to do and there were no surprises at all which was the best thing.  I thought the price was fair.

Very professional. Did their diagnostics and then gave me options (repair, replace, etc.) and the prices for each. Got back to me within the time frame they initially quoted. No problems.

Overall a good experience. The tech (Devin) stayed in communication with me, resolved the problem, and I had the computer back in about 4 days. My only concern was that I felt the price for the service was a bit high, about half the cost of a whole new machine. I would also have liked to receive a more detailed report about exactly what was done to the laptop.

After reading some of the reviews here on Angie's List, I contacted Todd to explain the situation with the problem laptop. I took the laptop to the Gahanna location in order to speed up the turn-around time, as their actual work is done there. Todd persponally worked with me to get the repair done in a very quick manner. I was extremely pleased with the customer service, the turn-around time, and repair. I will use them again, if the need arises.

I brought my virus-ridden laptop in to the Grandview store on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. After I showed extreme disappointment that their express services wouldn't get me my laptop back before Tuesday, Josh ran a quick diagnostic test on it. He was able to isolate the problem and fix it on the spot. He even installed a free anti-virus program. I was so impressed with the customer service - he knew I needed the laptop for working on the weekend, and took the time to make this quick repair. I'm so impressed, and will recommend the Laptop Guy to anyone who asks.

I took my Dell Inspiron laptop into the laptop guy with a broken hinge. As confirmed by the description on my receipt, this was a “minor hardware repair”. I agreed to the Laptop Guys diagnostic fee and assumed that since it was so minor, it would cost too much more than that. Don't ever assume. I got a call after my “diagnosis” was complete. I was told that it was a very simple repair and that two screws had come out. They could fix it and have it back to me in a couple of days. They did fix it and get it back to me very quickly. What did those new screws cost me at the Laptop Guy? $138.35. If I had it to do over again, I would only consider the laptop guy for a situation in which I might experience data loss. Otherwise, I would simply buy a new computer and apply the significant expense to that.
Response from Laptop Guy
"Hello, I was a bit surprised by this review, as the member was very satisfied by the quick turnaround and at the time seemed very happy by the service we provided when picking up laptop. I would have to agree if it had been some loose screws on the outside of the machine that had been missing and charged $129+ tax would have been a bit on the high side. However that was not the case as the laptop’s upper assembly had to be removed to see what the issue was. The technician saw missing screws that held the hinges to the frame but it was internal and required time to disassemble part of the laptop. This type of repair is all labor, and we didn’t charge the member $129 for two screws. Pricing is always a hot button and we constantly monitor it. What doesn’t make sense for one person to repair does for another? Our goal has always been to provide the customer with an accurate and fair diagnosis and help them make the right decision for them. Our service manager contacted the Angie’s List member after we had been notified of the not so great report and had a good conversation, and he did his best to explain what was involved in the repair to the member. What’s very frustrating about this is that she was very happy with our service except for the price and we end up with an overall score of “D” Although I disagree with an F rating on price I’m not sure why we didn’t get A’s for Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality, and Professionalism. We always do a follow up call 5-7 days after any customer picks up their repaired laptop but didn’t have the chance to do so before this report was posted. As courtesy we did give the member a $35 discount as the adviser that contacted her might have over simplified what we had to do which might have led to member thinking “Why are you charging me $138 for two screws” I encourage you to contact me directly by email at [email protected] or by phone at 614-487-9674 ext. 71 and let me know what kind of laptop/computer problems your having. Let me know you’re an Angie's List member, and I will do my best to provide you a quote and do my best to get your laptop back to you ASAP. If you’re reading this and had not contacted me first and feel you can leave a good report please give me the opportunity to try to make it right. If I can’t I will be upfront and let you know. Thank You, Todd Feit, Founder/CEO The Laptop Guy Serving Columbus since 2000."

I called for an estimate, which was correct. I dropped off my computer on a Friday afternoon and it was done by Tuesday morning. Works perfectly and is much faster with the increased RAM.

"Thank You for for the great report. I'm glad we had been able to get your Dell laptop back to its original state and running better then ever. Better yet that you got your laptop back in 3 days. Normally, our turnaround time averages 5-10 days depending on what the problem is but being you contacted us first and we had the parts in stock we had been able to get your laptop repaired quickly. To fellow Angie's list members I encourage you to contact me directly by email at [email protected] or by phone at 614-487-9674 ext. 71 and let me know what kind of laptop/computer problems your having. Let me know you’re an Angie's List member, and I will do my best to provide you a quote and do my best to get your laptop back to you ASAP. I was unable to start windows and stuck in a boot loop on my laptop. I have had this problem in the past with my desk top and have been able to fix it myself, However I was unable to this time. I took it in and explained my problem to the tech. I also took in my recovery disc, and external back up hard drive along with my acronis backup software. The tech he was not really interested and advised me they will "plug it in to their computer and it will tell them what is wrong" He did state the diagnostic and repair is usually done in 3-5 days if it does not need any parts. SInce I had not heard from them in 4 days I called and was advised by IAN they were really backed up and would call me Tuesday. I asked if he could call Monday and was told they had until Tuesday to call me. I called Monday just to check and no one had yet touched it. I called Tuesday morning and was advised it would be looked at today. I finnaly received a call tuesday afternoon and was advised it needed a hard drive. I asked what type they had and the cost. I was advised $ 229 +tax for a 160GB drive and reinstall windows . I asked if that included restoring thedata using my backup hard drive and was told no . I inquired who the manufacturers were and was told they were black and blue by western digital and seagate. Upon further questioning I was unable to get any more details because the tech did not know due to the fact they change all the time. I then called the business office and left a message with my dissatisfaction and questions, it did seem that they were in the business of selling hard drives instead of fixing the problem, I no longer had any confidence that that was the problem. Jeremy did return my call the next day and I was advised that most people who use their serrvice do not know as much as I do about computers and that Ian is not used to answering those questions. Most people just bring in their laptops and pay whatever they ask which is the industry standard pricing. When I inquired about some sort of discount would be appropriate on the diagnostic fee ($79) since it had taken 6 days , I was told it was only 5 and that they count days differently than I ( Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday) . Overall I am extremely dissappointed with the price, quality, punctuality, professionalism, No one was knowledgable or give me any reason to trust their diagnostic computer. I have met Todd the owner just in passing while at Bark Park in Columbus , He was such a nice guy and does alot for pet rescue. I work with pet rescue myself , I was hoping for a more professional, experienced, knowledgable and cost sensative business. Unfortunately that was not the case. They really did not need or want my business. I am just soo dissappointed. I will be installing a new hard drive myself.
Response from Laptop Guy
"The facts of this case are simply not accurate by the member's account as all interactions with the member are documented in our system. In addition, All phone conversations are recorded for quality assurance and has been reviewed and certainly tell a different account of what happened. What I wrote below is not my interpretation but supported by actual facts The memberwas upset at our costs after we determined what the problem was. She is more advanced then most people are with computers and after we provided the diagnostic she knew that she could buy a hard drive cheaper, and she didn’t need us to install the drive or reload the operating system once she knew what the problem was as she knew how to do it. We quoted her the price of $229 that included a New 160Gig hard drive, The Installation of the drive, Install of operating system, updated drivers and final testing. For someone like the member, that is knowledgeable about computers what we needed to do to get her computer may sound very simple. In the member's review, she may have lead you to believe we are trying to take advantage of those that are not computer literate when it comes to fixing their own machine and try to rip customers off. That is simply not true. When we quoted the price, she felt it was too high as she wanted to know why we were charging her $229 for 160Gig drive when she could get it cheaper. We tried to explain that charge was not just for the hard drive but also for the complete service. Many time we have people that are knowledgeable about computers to the extent that they can do their own work once that know what the problem is and decline our repair quote and pay the $79 diagnosis fee and pick their laptops up and fix on their own. We never charge the diagnosis fee up from and free with any completed repair. In addition, Angie’s List members get a discount with any completed repair and she made no mention she was a member. Normally, the Angie’s List discount is only for completed laptop repairs but I would have honored it on just the diagnosis fee if she had asked After the member knew what the problem was it was an easy Do it your self-project for her. The member does mention the work I do with animal rescue, and it’s a shame that someone reading her review or just seeing the letter grade she gave us won’t use our service. The Laptop Guy takes some off its profits to spread animal awareness on TV and financially supports various rescues every year and reviews like that are not truthful and only hurt those efforts. I have no problem admitting if we did something wrong and it’s much easier to do so then standing firm. The Laptop Guy is celebrating its 10-year anniversary because we do great work, offer a fair price, and offer the best customer service. Since 2000 we have repaired over 50,000 laptops and we have 1000’s and 1000’s of happy customers that many of them are Angies list customers that simply don’t know there is a computer category. I thank you for taking the time to read this and please feel free to contact me directly at 614-487-9674 ext 71 before bringing your laptop in and I will personally monitor your case and do what I can to speed it through our process without sacrificing quality Todd Feit, Founder/CEO The Laptop Guy, Inc."
