LANG STONE

Thanks to Langstone, I have the kitchen of my dreams. They were so friendly and professional every step of the way. I will never use another company. Great communication from Robin in the office. Install crew were perfectionist and made seams vertically invisible. So impressed!

I got the standard auto email that said we have received your request. Sent them two follow up emails and never got a return email or call or anything.

BUYER BEWARE: Lang Stone does well at selling, fairly well at installing, and poorly at any follow-up.
(1) Based on what I can tell, Lang has a commission incentive structure in place. If a salesperson's name is not on the form, help at Lang's is in short supply.
(2) The person we had measuring remeasured and remeasured and remeasured some more and didn't communicate whatever information he needed from us well. I understand the motto and quot;measure twice, cut onceand quot; but based on our experience for our kitchen countertops and now third bathroom, the same work was not even half as complicated. Also, their person was not friendly.
(3) Their install crew was unfriendly towards me (during the last installation) and towards my contractor (during the master bath installation). They are your company's representatives in the field and they come across as if I should be so lucky that they showed up. I have dealt with many tradesmen during our home renovation but would attest their employees very low scores in professionalism, courtesy, and after-install cleanup.

Given the size and prominence of Lang's business in town, I am still surprised by my experience. I would never hire them again and do not recommend them.

This review is actually for the Lang Stone office on 5th Ave., not the store on Short St. After visiting the store, then returning to get a sample, my husband and I selected the piece of granite we wanted. I spoke to the salesman, Matt Pappas, who asked us to email a sketch of the area where granite was going. This was done on a Monday, but by Friday we had not heard from him. I let a message on Friday, but a reply was not received by Tuesday. On Tuesday, I left a message asking for a return call from any other salespeson or a manager. To date, no one has ever returned a call.
I don't know if our job was too small or what, but I would think they would want a sale. I would not recommend this company due to their lack of responsiveness and unprofessionalism.

It couldn't have been easier. Their staff was so helpful. I picked out slabs/boulders. They moved them around. I took pics. They promised to deliver May 7. They were here by 8. Place the rocks with large equipment, but with incredible grace. Done and gone in about 1/2 hour. I couldn't believe it.
I rate them with a 10.
I've also done business with Lang Stone in the past installing granite counters. They are delightful to work with, professional, talented. They are incredibly good at what they do, it's easy on the customer. They take pride in what they do and it shows. Do not hesitate to use this company.

They are just a very good company for helping with landscaping ideas and for all their different products. They will take time with you and give you ideas. They did the same when we decided to get countertops.

We did not have any problems during the process, and we are extremely happy with the results.

While they may be among the oldest and most established, they are not the only game in town...but they rest on their laurels as if they WERE not a commodity business. Look elsewhere for service to go with the product.
My contractor gave Lang Stone my measurements for a granite bathroom countertop 6 weeks ago. Three weeks later, upon the due date, they claimed that while the piece had been cut, it had cracked being moved within the warehouse. My contractor said that they would have it replaced within two weeks. THEN, Friday, when my contractor called them for the status, Lang told him that they found out that my contractor was not working with a larger contracting company (as he has occasionally), and that it would be another three weeks before they could get to my job.
Communication breakdown or not, I would rather have NO SERVICE than ANY FUTURE SERVICE from Lang.

Easy to work with. My wife and I visited and saw their displays which show different stone in a real outdoor arrangement. Very helpful.

A member of the company's fifth generation family ownership helped with cost and timing.

Our contractor (Hope Restoration) worked directly during the purchase, delivery and installation.

Rex was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions and gave me suggestions on how to break big pieces to the right size. Rex did not try and sell me more stone than I needed (unlike Mr. Mulch), and took the time to match his rock to my sample piece. The delivery guy was right on time, and double-checked the order before unloading. Stone was good quality - the bed looks great!

Oddly, the price and quality were both excellent, but the customer service is a nightmare. Even though the project turned out looking very nice, I would NEVER risk using these guys again. (NOTE: This report is for the marble/granite business of Lang (on Fifth Ave), which apparently operates independent of the stone/gravel on Short Street). Lang has to have the best remnant/boneyard selection in Columbus and we found several we liked. We weren't happy with the price, but they were happy to match a competitor offer we brought back later. Then the trouble started. It took several calls and weeks of waiting to get the measurement scheduled. Mike the GM may be a nice guy, but returning phone calls is not a strong suit. Terry, who does the measuring, makes Mike's customer service skills look world class. On the day he showed up for the measurement, he was gone without a word after five minutes. Just disappeared. Then he or Mike called a few days later to say our faucet would need extensions because the piece we picked out was 1.5 inches, instead of 1.25 (huh? aren't all granite tops standard - turns out, yes they are). I tried to call back for futher clarification, but never got a response. I decided he was talking crazy and hoped they would show up 1.25 inches.. and they did. On the day of the install, Dan the installer says almost immediately "these sinks won't fit. You'll need to cut notches out of the front rail of the vanity." What? After a bunch of calls back and forth to the office, it is determined that this was known by Terry the measurement guy the day he measured. Except he neglected to mention this to either me or Dan the installer. Had I known the sinks wouldn't fit without chopping up the interior frame of my new, custom vanity I would have said "hold on, don't cut that granite, let me find new sinks." Only because Dan is a wonderful guy (apparently the only guy who is capable of interacting professionally with a customer), very understanding and very considerate did I agree to let him make the modifications to ge the piece install so I could finish the bathroom. Otherwise I would have refused the piece and demanded my money back. Think I ever got a call from Mike and Co. from Lang? Nope. Nice piece, great price, never use them again.

We picked out the particular slabs we wanted and put a deposit on them. When we went back later to layout the counter tops on the slabs, they didn't have the original slabs that we picked out. They failed to put our names on them to reserve them and we were very upset. The initial salesman really wasn't doing anything to help us, so I wrote a letter to the executive vice president and she got involved. They made it up to us by making specials efforts to find stones that we liked and ended up giving us higher priced granite for the same price. They did a great job installing and measuring. The only real problem was that they failed to reserve the slab. I think their prices are comparable with others.

Lang is wonderful to work with. They initially led me to believe that it was going to take longer than it really was to get to the installation due to it being a busy season with the holidays. They got to us faster than expected. The drafting technician did a wonderful job making adjustments where necessary. The seam in the granite is practically not detectable! I was quite impressed with the professionalism of the installers.

I was very pleased with the results. We have a large kitchen, and many things could have gone wrong that didn't. Lang Stone used advanced equipment to very precisely measure our kitchen. They identified in advance where our walls were not straight (had a slight curve in them) and made sure that there would not be gaps between the granite and the backsplash. One of our slabs of granite (purchased from another company) had some unattractive irregularities in it. In cutting the granite for our countertops, Lang Stone cut it so that those unattractive areas were not used. Also, to make the sink fit properly, Lang Stone had to make some alterations to the interior panels of our cabinetry. They did a good job with that. It was important to me to be able to replace our sink (without taking out granite) if we ever need to do that. In advance of the installation, one of the Lang Stone employees had told me we would be able to do that. However, on the day of installation, the Lang Stone installer told me to not count on being able to do that. We would have made a different choice of sinks if we had known that. Overall, though, everything was great. I would use this company again. I don't have separate cost figures for the fabrication/installation because this was part of a larger project arranged through The Great Indoors. Lang Stone was the fabricator for The Great Indoors.

I went all over looking for the right gravel and size rock for a landscaping project, and no one had just what I needed, so I went to Lang Stone (where I should have started.) They had what I needed and were able to deliver it the next day. The ton of rocks was not quite the size I thought I was getting, but they worked fine for the project. (Some companies would not deliver "cheap" rock. Who has the means to transport 3 tons of rock themselves?"

They were very patient with us. It took us months to decide what we wanted. They gave us so many options, too. We had one small problem, and they came back and fixed it right away.

They did my bathroom before this and they did a good job on both projects. They've been around for over 150 years. If I need any type of granite or marble work in the future I would go to them. They were a little more expensive but I was more comfortable with them and it was worth the peace of mind.

Driving onto their yard near downtown you wonder what type of service you would get for a small job -- the answer was great! We explained what we wanted to do (we were building the wall ourselves) and should them a stone we had brought from an existing wall in the yeard. They were very helpful in matching the stone, estimating the amount we would need, and providing writen instructions. And on top of that, they delivered the 1-ton of stone two days later.

Sales staff was very professional and helpful. They helped me choose the stone, that would best fit my needs.

I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY FIRST DEALINGS WITH THIS COMPANY, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS JUST A PHONE CALL. THE PERSON I SPOKE WITH WAS NOT WHAT I WOULD CALL PLEASANT AND GAVE ME THE BARE MINIMUM INFORMATION. IT SEEMED I WAS BOTHERING HER BY ASKING ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS. I ENDED UP FINDING A MUCH MORE PLEASANT AND HELPFUL SALES ASSOCIATE AT A COMPETITOR. IF I'M GOING TO SPEND THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY ON A PROJECT, A PLEASANT AND HELPFUL REPRESENTATIVE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE. IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE REPRESENTATIVES ATTITUDE THAT I SOUGHT OUT ANOTHER COMPANY.

I WAS VERY HAPPY ABOUT THE HELP. THE ONLY ISSUES WERE THEY WERE TO CALL BEFORE DELIVERY BUT DID NOT. THE ONLY OTHER IS THAT THE PRICE WAS ALMOST TWICE WHAT I WAS OFFERED BY A DIFFERENT COMPANY. HOWEVER THE OTHER COMPANY STATED THEY COULD NOT PUT THE GRAVEL WHERE I WANTED IT.
