They also plow my driveway and sidewalks. They usually are there very quickly, without my calling them. I have an agreement that they will plow without my calling them when the snow reaches a certain height (which I think is pretty standard for plowing. I don't want them take the time to call me and tell me they're going to plow as one person complained. Just do it!) Only once did it take them a bit over a day, and that was after a snow then ice then snow. They were hand shoveling walks because the snow blower wasn't getting through the ice.
I have used JT and his crew for over 5 years now. I used 2 different fertilizer companies and my lawn still looked horrible. The grass was thin with large bare spots. I started with JT applying the necessary products and cutting the grass. As I started see amazing results I added more services. Today JT does all work on my yard to include grass cutting, fertilization, aeration, overseeding, spring cleanup, new .plants, mulch and irrigation system start up and fall shut down. JT's prices are reasonable for the quality of work I receive. I have used other landscapers, grass cutter and fertilizer companies and their prices were higher and the yard was barely acceptable.
As with life not everything goes as planned and when I have had a question or "issue" JT or Diane has responded within a very reasonable time. I understand the season and the weather have an impact on how busy they are and do not expect a same day response but have never waited more than a day or two at most.
I am beyond pleased with how great my lawn looks they have even gotten the grass along my paver patio to grow which is quite a feat since I had spent years and many dollars with no success.
I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a yard they can be proud of.
permission or knowledge. I only requested the service one time and was not informed I would be put on any list. They would not return my calls in a timely manner.
- 1. Weeds and grasses were already growing thru the mulch in many areas (I have pictures and emailed them)
- 2. The top soil was not leveled on my lawn and they clearly missed some areas
- 3. grass seed was everywhere including the beds. Now every crack on my sidewalk and driveway has grass growing but not everywhere on my lawn (I cleaned up as much as I could see). And just sprayed roundup on the grass in cracks.
- 4. A month later I have weeds everywhere but mysteriously they have been dying, must have been sprayed...so someone is coming onto my property without my knowledge or approval and spraying. Now 2 months later, I have had to use Roundup twice and my beds look like they did before JT started except they have mulch on them.
- 5. the beds were barely edged (and where they were not even in straight line), the mulch only 2 inches deep max and not level in application. I know have mulch with dead weeds and grass on it.
At least I was smart enough to pay with credit card and after calling JT who agreed to call me to meet at my home (he never did call back); sent another email with pictures to show him my issues early on; I am disputing the charges in full.
I am reasonable and willing to pay him something for dirt and mulch, but what I really wanted was the job done right. The mulch moved, beds cleaned and de-weeded, pre-emersion killer put down, clean new mulch added and leveled with pre-emersion on top; top soil added to areas missed, seeded; crab grass prevalent around my driveway removed and new soil/seed added...
By the way his address is Gahanna (according to his invoice) not Columbus as shown on the List...that should tell you something too. No attention to detail.
Six weeks later...I hear nothing from them or the credit card company. Then I get a letter from his lawyer demanding payment that his client attempted to collect what is owed multiple times. I contacted the credit card company and they never received any contact from the contractor. He never contacted me about payment. I talked with his lawyer in a reasonable manner and offered to pay for materials in full, but not the poor workmanship, about 78% of the total bill. I thought this was more than reasonable.
Today I heard from the lawyer again and they declined my offered and demand payment in full. I am now going to post this review.
6/28/2013 Update -- I sent them an email 3 weeks ago (with pictures of the poor work) and received no reply. Also no reply from my email of 5/8. Yesterday I was informed by my credit card company, by email, that they never received any communications from the merchant and therefore are honoring my dispute with a credit in full. However, I am not a deadbeat and I sent another email today to JT that I am paying him $700 as payment in full (deducting for poor workmanship per his itemization and my extra expense to have to fix his poor workmanship--excludes my labor). This is more than reasonable and fair. I then sent an electronic check per the email. I consider the matter closed and will not be intimidated by his threats of legal action.
Apr 2013 - Called 3 times to ask them to redo overseed. Grass did not come up at all. Told that Oct 2012 timing was bad and grass seed partially germinated then froze. Offered to come back out on 4/27. I paid to flag invisible dog fence (and my sprinkler heads). No show, no communication. Called back and told equipment failure and one tech was out that day. Rescheduled for 5/02. Work was completed, but only the worst section of the back yard, leaving bare spots on sides of yard and by street (live on corner). Tech aerated directly across the flags marking the invisible dog fence, even bending over some of the flags.
Called back on 5/03/13 to inform owner that tech damaged dog fence. Said would come out to fix. Took about 6 days. Noticed visible line 1/8" down in yard. Should be 2-5" deep, and Dog fence still broken. Don't have weeks to get this company to fix a fence needed to keep the dog in, and don't want sued for someone or someone's dog getting bitten by my dog. Contracted with Dog Fence company to repair it correctly, fixed next day, and seeking re-imbursement from JT Services ($95) as of 5/22. I paid twice to have dog fence marked (Oct and Apr) to prevent this issue.
**update - for the last 2 years, I did the prepay service, and due to weather (droughts, etc) not all treatments were put down. That in itself is not a problem as it is best for the lawn. The problem is that I had to bring it to their attention both years - and that is simply not the way it should be. I expect them to be on top of these things and notify me to make it right. Our business relationship is over.
I started using JT back in 2010 after some problems with another service company. After the initial meeting and assessment, they have consistently shown up as I expected. With their annual prepayment program, it's made this another household chore I just don't have to think or worry about. I also like that they've communicated changes to their programs/chemicals used when results weren't as expected.
