On-time. Friendly. They kept me informed and asked if I felt anything else needed done after the trimming.

I called Jacob Sauer Tree Care to get an estimate and was surprised to see the estimate in my mailbox 2 days later. Price was very acceptable so I called to schedule them. I left a voice mail and they did not call back. so I had to call them again, but they were very responsive once I had them on the phone. We scheduled the job for 5 days out and they did a terrific job. My only suggestion would be to be a little more communicative with their customers.

"Thank you for your review. I do apologize for the response time. As i explained i had been out of the office with strep throat and my father has been in the ICU for a few weeks. No excuse for lack of communication but wanted to offer you an explanation of why it took a few days to respond. I am relieved to hear that the tree work went well and you were over all satisfied with your experience with us. Again thank you for your business, Amy"

Jacob was very easy to reach and provide a reasonable quote. He worked with me on scheduling the service and was able to cut down and remove a large tree from my yard. The clean up was amazing and I was also able to coordinate stump removal with Jacob. I will use him again.

The team showed up on time, cleaned up thoroughly, and were willing to spend a few minutes talking about shade patterns in my yard. Great experience, we'll use these guys again!

My attorney referred him to me. I also got some other estimates and I was really pleased with his work. I tried to get 5 estimates. One was really low so that made me really skeptical. The others were $2200, $2600 and $2700 and one company wouldn't bid it. The prices didn't even include cutting down the trees. His price was right in there with the other people. They had a real tight 3 man crew. They were very professional, very courteous and very nice. It was a rather difficult job. The trees were not big in diameter but they were very tall. The complications came because there were wires from other houses going through my back yard so they had to contend with all those live wires in the alley. There were also branches overhanging in my neighbor's property. They couldn't get a crane in there. He had to literally go up there and remove the branches. I was quite pleased with them. It was fun to watch them. They did a splendid job. They showed up on time. It was expensive. The overall job was simply lovely. His price was reasonable to me. His quality was top notch.

Jacob and Matt worked all morning, being careful to take care of lawn by putting down plywood sheets for equipment to get to and from back yard so as not to damage lawn. Cleaned up all debris and were courteous, friendly and answered questions. They made quick work of some monsterous bushes.

At the very end of the summer, a wind storm caused damage to a neighbor's tree, and in turn damage to our fence.
Due to laws and insurance rules, we initiated the work since we had significant damage was to our property. Between us, and our neighbors, we got four tree estimates - Jacob's was the best price by far. I checked his reviews, which were mostly good, with a couple that weren't - but since his price was low, and the job was fairly straight forward, we went with him. And, when I called for the initial estimate, Jacob responded fairly quickly.
Subsequently, however, Jacob's communications skills proved to be frustrating -- I tried to ask him questions via the phone, and via his website -- but it took several calls over more than a week before I got ANY response. We finally scheduled a date. But, as the date approached, I needed to inform the neighbors (one of which is a doctor's office, with a parking lot) so they could move their vehicles out of the way. Jacob never responded to my requests for a confirmation. I just hoped he would show up on time, and thankfully he did.
The work was done as proposed, and was reasonably well cleaned up... about 98%. The little bit of debris left behind was worth the low price. BUT - one more thing - he accidentally backed his huge truck into our fence... the section that was NOT damaged previously. So, the money we saved on the tree work will be going to pay for additional fence repair. Although he admitted that he hit the fence, he said it didn't and quot;look very badly damagedand quot;... though I have photos that show otherwise. At that point, I just wanted him out of my sight, so I paid him, said I was unhappy, and asked him to leave.
BTW - the neighbor wants to have extensive work done on the tree in the spring (cabling, deadwooding, pruning...), but said and quot;I guess I won't use himand quot;.
Moral of the story: You get what you pay for.

He was also able to move a shed that was in our front yard. He needed a crane to help with the big tree removal, and he was able to create a plan that enabled us to move our shed to the back yard. Really clever person. You will like him. He is fair and prompt (Remember the weather is a factor in his work!) We would use him again anytime. Great guy and great staff.

I've used them before, the last time was about 2 years ago. That time they removed a Bartlett pear tree in my front yard. Every time I've been very satisfied. They clean up well after themselves and are friendly.

The work, when completed, was well done. However, a fairly straightforward $350 pruning job took 5 months to complete. I was very disappointed Jacob's lack of follow-through and what I thought was exceptionally poor communication. I initially received a quote within 24 hours of sending my online request last October and was very excited and hopeful. However, after the quote Jacob kept not showing up and hardly ever returned my phone calls or e-mails. During a phone call in November Jacob admitted that he had forgotten about my job altogether, although he promised to do the work within the next two weeks.
In early December, not having heard anything from Jacob since that November phone call, I was about to hire another arborist when I came home from work and found about 3/4 of the agreed-upon job completed. A few days later I received an e-mail invoice. I responded to the e-mail saying that I would pay him when the work was totally completed. In February, the job still had not been finished and I received a phone call saying that I was on his unpaid list and to please pay what I owed as soon as possible. I again told him that I would pay him in full when the work was completed. When he finally came back and finished the job in March, he left quite a bit of waste materials in my yard, despite his initial written promise that all waste material would be either put in my brush pile or carted away.
I sent him full payment after that, along with a complaint letter about the poor follow-thru and communication. Jacob called with an apology, and noted that a lot of the problem stemmed from a sub he had used for the job who was no longer with the company. While Jacob did make things right in the end, I would be hesitant about using his service again, not because of the quality of the work, but due to the terrible communication and follow-thru.

I had spoken to Jacob about taking down a tree 2 to 3 weeks before the big storm in July 2012. Jacob gave me an estimate in a professional, and timely manner. I promptly sat on it for the next few weeks, until the storm hit. The storm brought down a large limb into the yard causing damage to our fence. Jacob was swamped with calls right after the storm. However, he came to my house within a few days to clear the limb, and agreed to take the rest of the tree down as soon as he got done with his emergency work. (Which he did in 3-4 weeks if I remember correctly.) He was professional. He was easy to work with. And his fee was reasonable. All in all, I had an excellent experience. I'd hire him again.

I received an estimate from Jacob Sauer to trim my tree and remove bushes in the side and back yard. When I got the estimate, it did not include the cost of removing the shrub stumps, but Jacob said someone on his crew could do that and it would cost extra, but they couldn't do it the same day, which I agreed to.They came out the next day to trim the tree and cut down the shrubs. They arrived 30 minutes late, but worked quickly. They did a nice job on the tree. If that was the extent of the work they did, then I would be happy. They cut down the shrubs as close to ground level as they could, but did not do that great of a job with that, probably assuming the roots would come out. When they came, they couldn't give us a date they would remove the shrub stumps, so we only paid them for the tree/shrub trimming and they said they'd call in a couple weeks.
After 2 weeks, Beth (I believe) from the office called to say they weren't removing stumps any more and they were going to contract that out to someone else, who would be out within the week to finish the job. I was hesitant, as that's not what I agreed to when I had them start the job and was concerned the job wouldn't be done correctly. But what could I do at this point, with a mess in the backyard and stumps that needed to come out.
The contractor arrived several days later to remove the stumps. My husband was working from home at the time and heard them start work. By the time he got to a stopping place and got outside, they were gone. They had only done the roots on the side of the house (not very well) and didn't even go in the back yard, where most of the work was. I called Jacob and left a message and then e-mailed him when I got home and saw the extent of the work missed.
Several hours later, I got a call from Beth again saying the contractor could not get the equipment through the fence gate into the back yard and there was nothing more they could do for me. They gave me all sorts of suggestions, like how I could rent my own equipment to remove the roots on my own, but that's why I hired them to do it. Plus, if I could rent equipment, why couldn't they rent it to finish the job they promised they would do? When I pointed out they didn't do a good job clearing the shrubs, probably because the roots were supposed to come out, she offered to send Jacob out to clean them up, but I was so frustrated at that point and told her forget it. I wanted to put something in their place, but we'll just have to clean up what we can and keep the shrubs trimmed down as they grow back.
I was especially frustrated when she asked me if I wanted them to bill me for the root work that was done. Seriously? Of course I don't want to pay for work that wasn't done well and wasn't done to completion. I though they could've stepped up on their own to eat the cost of unsatisfactory work. Very unprofessional.
Honestly, I would've had Jacob Sauer back out to trim more trees as the need arose, as well as recommend them to others, as they did a nice job with the tree, but after their lack of professionalism and inability to complete the job promised, I will not be working with or recommending them at all.

Response from Jacob Sauer Tree Care LLC
"I am sorry that the Member was not happy with our work. We are a small, local, family business and genuinely try to do quality tree work. I wish that there was more that we could have done for the Member, but she did not want us to come out and alter any of the work we had completed. We offered to pay for the stump that was ground out, since the stump grinder was not able to get the additional stumps in back. It is very rare to have a gate entrance that is not 36” wide and our very experienced stump grinding subcontractor, just couldn’t get his machine back there. I am also sorry that Laura did not feel that we communicated well with her."
