Mr. Patrick Fox quickly responded to a service request to check my 25-year-old Snyder central A/C unit. It's been approaching 100 degrees here in Central Ohio, and I pushed the old girl so hard that the lines froze. Mr. Fox rechanged the unit, and the R22 alone probably cost $240. He warned me that with a coil and condenser that old, a leak is more probable than not. We decided that a dye test was not worth the cost, since any leak would imply complete replacement as opposed to spot repair, due to the age of the unit and line set. Instead, he will return at the end of the week and recheck the unit after it's been operated a few days. He also did an inspection of my old furnace, and he explained the pros and cons of replacing one or both of these units. Of course, the only con here is cost. However, Mr. Fox didn't do a sell-job, other than offering to credit me the cost of today's work and materials if I choose to replace. I've been shopping for replacements since I bought the house a year ago, and the price he quoted for new units sounded pretty darn good.

Polite, timely, inexpensive, technically knowledgable & willing to sharing his knowledge. Thumbs up, Mr. Fox. And here's hoping you are a temporary victim of your own skills! The old girl's been running all day, pumping out 57 degrees at the vent, with no line ice. I will hold onto the vain hope of no leaks, at least until we test again at the end of the week!
