I was a customer here for 15 years. After the price increase was announced I spoke with multiple officers and asked about the fee structure change and how it affected my wifes personal checking. No one was willling to work to maintain my business even though I held multiple accounts. They said her account would be billed a monthly fee regardless of our other banking relationships. After speaking with two branch officers and the home office I decided to close all my acciunts with them.

We have been banking with 5/3 bank since 1997 and could be regarded as their loyal customer. Recently we received a mail asking us to change the so-called granddaddy checking account to one of the five new types of checking, we realized that they may have other changes and maybe we should close our daughter's saving account opened in June 2008. It was a free saving account at that time offered to students or minor under legal age to build saving habit. My wife is the guardian and should be the contact person. Today my wife went to a Bank branch but surprisingly was told the account has been closed last year due to inactive and a mail was sent to us before the action. My wife told them that we did not receive any mail; the teller said nothing he could do and no money refund. We then called 5/3 customer service. First a gentleman answered the phone call. He said the mail was sent around last August but was returned for the wrong address. We asked where it was sent, he gave us our current address! Then I talked to his supervisor, the lady said the mail was sent to our condo unit, where we lived when the account was opened, and she accused us not update mailing address. We have moved several times since 1997, how could we not update our contact information? Otherwise, how could we keep receiving bank statements and other soliciting mails? At the end of 2011 we refinanced mortgage with them, don't they share customer information among their business divisions? Furthermore, we still own the condo; our tenants would have forward the mailed to us if delivered. I then asked just assuming Postal Office failed to deliver the mail, why didn't they contact us by phone (the gentleman told us the bank has the correct phone number in file). The lady said 5/3 won't call in this situation. WOW, this is how the 5/3 Bank deals with our banking account and our money!

I walked into the Fifth Third branch on Fishinger Road several years agp with in excess of $5000 and purchased a CD and deposited the balance in a passbook savings account. As the amount in the savings account was a little over $100, I asked at the time if there would be any fees associated with the savings account and was advised that there would not be. Now, several years later, Fifth Third has changed their mind and depleted 1/3 of the savings account with fees. I was advised that they now require a checking account to avoid the fees on the savings acount and said that that I was notified of this requirement. Could be, but this was a passbook savings account. What maintenance cost is associated with that? I was advised that I could have back $20 of what they took if I made some tranactions on the account but I was out of luck on the rest of it. Needless, to say, I don't have any kind words for Fifth Third Bank. I will suffer the penalites and avoid Fifth Third Bank.

I have been banking with Fifth Third since 2004. When I opened the accounts I had free checking with free checks, no-fee ATM and a no-fee credit card. Fifth Third now charges for all of their checking accounts unless you maintain a large balance, have direct deposit and a minimum amount of charges on their branded credit card. They also charge a substantial amount for printing checks and raised other fees to be among the higher-cost personal banking options. I recently experienced fraudulent use of my Mastercard in the amount of $7100.00 charged in multiple large-dollar amounts at the same location on the same day. The phony charges were spotted the same day as made and the Fifth Third Fraud Department said they would not charge me. However, the disputed amount stayed on the account balance, reducing my available credit, until the bank completed its investigation more than a month later. I was told they would send me an affidavit to sign, but it took them nearly two weeks to send the papers. They were slow to respond every step of the way, claiming they had up to 90 days to resolve the issue. Other banks will reverse the disputed charges during investigation. For example, Chase does this immediately when notified. You can get truly free checking without strings attached at other banks and credit unions. The poor service and high pricing for Fifth Third's banking products makes them less of a value than in the past. I cannot recommend this company. I cannot say this is a consumer friendly bank.

It goes fine when I visit this bank. They offer good service and I have been a customer for a long time. They are the only ones who would give a young friend of mine a checking account even though he really does not have much money so I think they try to be nice to people that are not rich. Their fees are not bad.

I like their customer service policies. When I go into the bank , I like the fact that if there's a problem the tellers call me, so they are more than tellers, and they really take care of me. The charges to open a standard check-in account is free. There are no monthly service charges, it's a free check in and It's very well done. I would to use them in the future.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO FURIOUS WITH ANY COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH.
Description of Work: MY APARTMENT BUILDING LOAN WAS BOUGHT BY FIFTH/THIRD FROM ANOTHER COMPANY ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. SINCE THEN THEY HAVE FAILED TO PAY MY HAZARD INSURANCE, SCREWED UP MY ESCROW ACCOUNT, OVERBILLED ME, UNDERBILLED ME, ACCUSED ME OF NOT PAYING WHEN IT WAS THEIR FAULT, AND NOT RETURNED CALLS.
