He was prompt, professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and quickly identified the problem and made the fix. He also took the time to educate me on how to clean and maintain an outdoor unit; and answered all my other questions thoroughly. Capacitor was more expensive than I expected; but then I had no previous experience in buying one.

+ -1 moreThey came out and replaced the evaporating coil first, because they thought that was the problem. Two days later, after the charge didn't hold they came back and tore apart the outside unit and found the actual problem. I had company coming in from out of town and needed it replaced right away, and within 24 hours, they had a new, working unit set up for us.
Description of Work: They replaced the copper tubing to the outside system, and ended up replacing the entire unit, outside and inside.

+ -1 moreIt went great - the serviceman was here 5 min. before the estimated 8AM appt. time, and spend a good 2 hrs. getting the evaporator coils and interior unit cleaned and sanitized. He then spent another hour outside cleaning out the condenser. He seemed very thorough and professional. Very friendly and helpful. Would definitely use again!

+ -1 moreMy air conditioner stopped working on Friday afternoon. I called another company and they came and told me I needed a $1,588 repair. My A/C is only 4 years old and my furnace 6 years old so I was surprised I would need such an expensive repair. Around 8:30 on Friday night (after the first company left), I called Custom Air because I wanted a second opinion. The technician, Robert, returned my call by 9:00 PM and scheduled for Saturday. The Custom Air technician was prompt, pleasant and knowledgeable. The diagnostic fee was $82.00. He told me I needed a new Blower Control Module which would cost $518.00 but I would have to wait until Monday for him to get the part. Robert returned first thing Monday morning and made the repair. I have now purchased a maintenance contract with Custom Air and will be having them back shortly to perform routine maintenance on my system. I would definitely recommend this company.

+ -1 moreThe tech looked at the unit in the basement, took his measurements , did the same outside and presented me with an estimate which he retracted when I told him I had insurance and that I was calling my insurance company.
Description of Work: I was told during my contracted spring inspection that I needed $2000 in repairs. I found out today that was hog wash and all I needed was some tightened connection and some freon.

Cleaned up and took all debris away from the job. I guess when they were unhooking the old system totally failed so if they hadn't been there we would have been roasting! Thanks!
Description of Work: Replace air conditioning system as well as corrective duct work. We have used Custom Air before so we know they are a super company. We worked with Dave Wuelfing on the last project at our old house so we knew exactly who to call. Dave came over to assess our current a/c unit after we heard a lot of awful sounds coming out of it; it was the compressor. It was an inexpensive builder grade unit (Bryant). The unit was only about 5 years old but as we thought, it was close to it's end mainly because he found that the existing duct work was not properly sized at original installation causing the compressor to freeze up; (we are the second owner of our home) so he recommended corrective action for that problem too. He provided us with many systems to choose from. We felt that replacement of both the a/c unit and duct work would be better over the long run. We decided to go with a Rheem system that would last many more years; especially since it used one of the newest refrigerants.

Also, they left a lot of dust from the ductwork part of the project that I think could have been avoided with more drop cloths. I had to have a lot of window treatments cleaned. If they had told me that the dust would have been that prevalent I would have taken down the window treatments beforehand. Everyone was very pleasant, though, and was easy to work with. The work appears to have been done well.
Description of Work: Custom Air completely revamped the heating and cooling system in our house. Two furnaces and two AC/heat pump units were installed. There was also some ductwork.

He tried to sell me a service package along with the repair and charged me a previously unquoted $80 just to come out and do the service estimate.

+ -1 moreThe vent in the master bathroom was not drawing moist air from the shower to the outside of our home. Water was running down the walls after each use of the shower regardless of the length of use or temperature of the water. The technician was on time and courteous, but could not find a major problem with the vent itself. He finally diagnosed the problem as a blockage on the outside of the house, and removed the insulation which was obstructing outgoing air. I have to admit I was dubious about this ''solution'' but it seemed to improve the conditions in our bathroom slightly. A week later, the problem had returned to previous levels and we again had water stains forming on our walls. I waited several months and finally called Custom Air back only to have the technician say ''the motor in your fan is too small for the job, you need a bigger motor". Of course, he offered to have a salesman come out and sell me one. I declined.

He measured the area, explaining that some adjustments to the duct work would be necessary to accommodate the Air Filter we had chosen. He quoted the above price to us. An appointment was set for our installation. Jay arrived on time, was professional and did a beautiful job reworking the duct and installing the Trane Filter. He removed all the unwanted parts and cleaned up the area. He answered all our questions regarding the operation of the filter.

Very professional and clean.
