I have used this jeweler before to repair a watch that no one else could fix. I lost my wedding ring a week ago and needed to get my finger resized (learned this winter that your fingers contract quite a bit when it is cold). They sized my finger and discussed the options of too small and too large without charging me. It was a little stressful losing the ring and I appreciated their kindness.

I brought in my grandfather's pocket watch. I had left this watch with a repair shop in Hilliard last summer, and the repair was never completed. This time, the watch was cleaned and the crystal replaced in a very timely manner. Best of all, in my opinion, was the fact that he didn't fix what didn't need to be fixed. I had mentioned that the watch had never run in my lifetime, and he showed me how to set and run it. In an unscrupulous person's hands, my ignorance could have been easily taken advantage of.
chThis experience made me confident enough to bring in a pair of earrings for repair. These weren't all that monetarily valuable (about $100), but I had purchased them at the British Museum in England, so I couldn't easily get a replacement pair. So I was kind of reluctant to let just anyone mess with them (the wires needed to be replaced). I was amazed at the great job they did, how quickly it was done, and how reasonable it was. I am now a regular Curiousity Shop customer.

I have no trust in the man. Lou, the owner came across initially as concerned. When I called about my watch 3 weeks into the repair they still work looking into the repair. I called weekly thereafter and never could talk to the owner. The initial estimate was around $90.00 the final price was $170.00. Owner said he had gotten approval from a lady in the house when no one was home in our house.
Response from Curiousity Shop Inc
"I do no repairs without prior approval. When I called the member, the woman who answered said he wasn’t available (possibly out of town.) But said she was sure that he would want it done and said she would give the approval on his behalf. I suggest he ask his mother about the call and approval. If need be, I will request a copy of my phone records to verify the call. Let me know if you wish to do so. I reiterate, he received quality work, with guarantee, for a fair pride with the hundreds of repairs (watch) we handle a year this has been the only complaint in the 15 years of watch repairs."

I stopped by The Curiosity Shop based on other reviews here and was not disappointed. Lou was quick to attend to me, and was confident he could dry the movement and replace the seal. Two days later he called to say it was done. When I returned to the shop, Lou explained that he had successfully dried the movement, replaced the seal with an upgraded or double seal, and did a thorough cleaning of the bracelet and clasp to boot! The watch is dry, keeping perfect time, and clean as a whistle- I could not have asked for or expected a better outcome! I would not hesitate to recommend the Curiosity Shop to anyone looking for professional, high-quality service. Thanks Lou!

The shop was able to complete all of the work in 10 minutes and I was out the door. The service was excellent; it is difficult to find a watch repair shop today, and I'm glad to have them in Clintonville.

From previous experience with the watch it has needed a spacer or something behind the battery for the watch to operate. I took the watch into the shop to have a new battery installed. I shared with the staff that typically a wadded piece of paper is needed behind the battery for the watch to work properly. The staff was very friendly, showed me around the shop, gave me the history and how they acquire and repair jewelry. After paying for the new battery I left the shop. About 5 minutes later I noticed the watch was not working. I opened the watch to find no spacer was enclosed. I played with the watch for awhile adding wadded paper but nothing worked. I took the watch back to the shop and was told the watch needed to be repaired and would cost $125-150. I questioned the price because for $125 I could get a new watch. The shop owner offered to contact the watch maker to learn about the watch value so I could make a better decision. The watch was worth quite a bit more than the repair. I agreed to have the work done. The repair was done quickly and at estimated cost. I've had no problem with the watch since.

Excellent service. It was a piece of antique jewelry and no one else would touch it. They did an excellent job.

I walked in with a nonworking watch, and walked out a few minutes later with a working watch.

I had several watches that were not running. Two of them had recently had batteries replaced by another source but still did not function properly. I took them in to Curiosity Shop and Lou checked them out on the spot. On one of them he noticed the battery wasn't properly seated and when he pressed it in correctly it started to run. For the other three he did a visual check (mechanism, dirt, etc.) and they looked fine. When he put good batteries in they started to run. He suggested that instead of running up service charges to check for problems that may not exist I just try them and see if they stop again. If they do stop we'll know something's wrong and deal with it at that point. Charged $5 each for the batteries he actually replaced and that was that. Seems like a real bargain because other places charge $7.50 to $10.00 per battery.

Within 24 hours, the owner called to say the watch (with its new band) was ready for pickup. (He'd had to order the new watchband.)

The shop's employees are always very friendly and welcoming. The ring is sparkling when I get it back. I love being able to take this sort of business to a neighborhood place. I've also bought a pair of diamond hoop earrings there, with which I have been very happy. They have an interesting collection of costume and quirky jewelery, as well as classic pieces.

I'VE HAD WATCH BATTERIES REPLACED BEFORE, AT VARIOUS OTHER PLACES. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I WAS TREATED AS A CUSTOMER, INSTEAD OF AS SOMEONE WHO HAD STOLEN THE WATCH AND WHO WAS ABOUT TO ROB THE STORE. IT WAS A WELCOME RELIEF. I'LL CERTAINLY GO BACK NEXT TIME.
