The quality of the work and politeness of their technician was excellent. The owner’s appropriateness and tact toward customers was not. I used them once while living in Columbus after another company did a botched job. The tech concurred it was bad. Owner refused to provide a statement on the workmanship to use in court. Then, I later attempted to use them again after moving 60 miles away. Owner tried to rip me off by charging a $300 travel fee. Left a bad review. Owner responded inappropriately putting the blame back on me saying I was just mad about them not providing a statement for my court case. Technician realized his boss was being a jerk and offered to do the work under the table. Having lived in many places, I came to find this is your typical Appalachia Ohio customer service experience. Thankfully, I’ve since left.

Awesome company - would definitely recommend and use again! They got me right in, finished the job quickly (and well) and charged me less than they had quoted because the job was easier than they had anticipated.

Spoke to Steve in early July ( I Think) initially and he told us he was really backed up and would not be able to get to it until August. Contacted him in early August and he responded promptly and picked up the chairs and returned them to us in about a week. He could have delivered them sooner but I wasn't available. Would highly recommend them to anyone

Everything went great and the work is exquisite. I almost hate to recommend them as they are very popular so there is a wait. Steve Coup is very knowledgeable in regard to both the refinishing and upholstering processes. His crew is obviously first rate. Most all work must go to his shop. He picks up and delivers although I'm not sure what the process might be outside Columbus. As with many providers these days, we communicated mostly by email, which I like as then I have a record of our agreements. The work is not inexpensive--I paid a few thousand for the desk, an antique twelve sided table, two antique library chairs, ...but every time I look at them now I have to smile.

Customer service is excellent, Steve is great to work with, he provided a basic estimate over email, and picked up and delivered the furniture. The chairs he worked on are 60+ years old and they now look brand new. He did a beautiful job on the furniture and I will not hesitate to call him again.

They were very cooperative and helpful, and they even suggested some things to save me money. I appreciated their honesty in that aspect.

Finished on schedule as expected and done perfectly with pick up and drop off provided as a courtesy. I would highly recommend Coup Restorations.

Steve (owner) had me send him a photo of the couch and he promptly gave me an estimate and a time when he could pick it up. He arrived on time, called me soon after with an expected return date and showed up promptly as committed. Along with my leg repair, he also mended the cushion that had a button that had fallen off for free. Some time later (four months) I noticed the couch was leaning and I called Steve to see if he could help. I assumed that it was the same side he had repaired earlier. I was thankful that he came back and picked up the couch immediately to diagnose the problem and what he did next was incredible. He brought the couch back with a wonderful repair job and nonchalantly told my wife that he repaired a different leg and wouldn't charge me anything! I thank Steve and told him that he had a client for life and without question, my experience reinforced my faith in mankind and repair professionals in particular. Coup's Restoration will get all of my business and anyone else that I speak with in need of quality, professional and trustworthy craftsmanship. Don't expect free service but do expect the best!

PERFECTLY! The did a great job on the chairs. They looked like they were delivered to us 30 years ago like this (except we had them lacquered a deep plum color).

This is my second review for Coup this year but because of the continued standard of high quality furniture repair and refinishing, I felt the review deserved a recent update as they have just completed several additional pieces for us. A large maple hardwood frame sofa, a side table and rocker were repaired, glued stripped and refinished and the finished product is fantastic. The wood glows and has been hand rubbed with Danish oil finish, not an easy process for any furniture restorer. The old metal rusted seat framing was removed and replaced with upholstery webbing and finished in sturdy fabric. The metal cushion frame on the rocker was kept in place and cleaned and made like new as were the original rocker springs. We are so pleased with the outcome of this process and highly recommend these skilled craftsmen of Coup Restorations.

For the repair in the first contact, it went flawlessly. I hired them to redo a repair previously done by Furniture Physicians.  Mike was very professional, attentive to detail, and took the time to make the job right.  Based solely on Mike's attitude and workmanship, I highly recommend.  I have attached four pictures attesting to the work they did. Compare them to the pictures I attached to my review for Furntiure Physicians.


UPDATE 9/18/11: I changed my review due to some circumstances that occurred after the work was performed.  Mike did excellent work and was highly professional, but I can only recommend this company with reservation after how the company's owner (Steve Coup) directed him to handle a couple of situations.  Personally, I would not use this company again based on my particular situation, but most of you looking at this may not be concerned with that as much as that they are able to do quality work.


First, in my legal case against Furniture Physician's the owner directed him that he could not testify regarding their work quality.  To a great extent, I can understand because most people wouldn't want to get involved in this.  However, this in and of itself isn't the reason I changed my review.


I relocated to Dayton for work again in 2011 and incurred moving damages.  I contacted Coup Restorations to do repairs.  Despite plugging his business on Angie's List, Mr. Coup apparently didn't appreciate my business enough and decided he was going to charge a ridiculous price differential per trip to travel from Columbus to Beavercreek, OH.  I certainly understand there should be a price differential to travel between Beavercreek and Columbus.  However, I was first quoted a price in the $200 range.  Later, it changed to $300 (per trip!)  The flip-flopping on the price was bogus enough, but it certainly doesn't cost $300 in time and gas roundtrip to travel between these two cities.


My first thought was they may have been spooked by the legal action I was taking against Furniture Physicians and that this was a convoluted way at dissuading my business.  However, they could have easily told me they only service the local market and been done with it.


I was really disappointed to be treated this way and felt Mr. Coup was taking advantage of me and, to be frank, being a greedy jerk.  Consequently, I had another local company perform the work, and Coup Restorations lost around $5500 in business.

UPDATE: RESPONSE TO COUP RESTORATION'S RESPONSE DATED JUNE 7, 2012 - It's rather amusing that the owner says customer satisfaction is important to him considering his scathing response that puts the problem back on me. Additionally, some of his assertions are not fact. However, this very unprofessional and extremely tacky response stands on its own and speaks for itself. So, I don't think I need to clarify further.

MIKE CAME OUT TO GIVE A QUOTE AND TOOK THE PIECES WITH HIM THAT DAY. I ASKED THAT THE FINISH COORDINATE WITH THE BUFFET AND SIDEBOARD IN THE DINING ROOM, SO THEY TOOK A SMALL DRAWER FROM ONE PIECE TO MATCH THE COLOR. THEY COMPLETED THE WORK AS PROMISED AND DID A WONDERFUL JOB. I''VE RECEIVED DOZENS OF COMPLIMENTS ON THE SET.
