Our furnace went out the evening of 1/8/13. Called Columbus Worthington Air and they (Technician) promptly called me and scheduled me for a call from CWA the next morning. (Note: I could have had the tech come out at that time -- but, it was not an extreme emergency and could wait until next day). I was given a appt window of 11am - 2pm. CWA called me at 12PM and said tech was on his way. The tech (Jamie)(sp?) was at the house by 12:30. I explained the problem -- as soon as he opened up the furnace, he knew exactly what was probably causing problem. Jamie was awesome -- nice guy, professional, and very knowledgeable. I went ahead and signed up with their maintenance plan also. Highly recommend them!!
Description of Work: Columbus Worthington Air repaired furnace which was a sensor causing the unit not to turn on properly.

It went pretty well. I like them. They came out sometime in December and I spent a little extra because I had to change the ingitor. I don't have any recommendations. They guy explained everything really thoroughly and he also told me that I don't have to change the ingitor right now but the gauge that I had they wouldn't recommend that I keep it because there was no telling when it would fail.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal coupon from Columbus Worthington Air for heating and AC services. I bouht 2 couchers to have my furnaces checked before the winter came.

They were very responsive to our calls, and even came out in the evening to talk about options with us. They quoted us a bryant furnace and air conditioner for $10,500 - it was one of their higher end systems, and they did have less expensive options - and were able to install it in 48 hrs. We got another quote from Favret heating and cooling in the interim and got a comparable Carrier system for $7500. We went with this quote given the price difference. Both companies have high ratings on Angie's list. I felt like Columbus Worthington could not or did not compete on price. Knowing they came out during a bitter cold snap to a home with a failed furnace, I have to suspect they may have felt like they could take advantage of us on price because we were desperate. Favret was more competitive on price, perhaps because they knew they needed to win the work on price since another estimate had been given. CWA quoted a Bryant system. Favret sold us a Carrier system. Both are made by the same company, although Carrier is sold as the higher end, premium brand. They are certainly similar, but Bryant should be less expensive than a Carrier, not more.
Description of Work: Inspected our furnace during a bitterly cold snap when the system was unable to keep up with the demand on the system. It was periodically overheating and shutting itself down. They recommended a system replacement, and a few things that might allow the furnace to continue running in the interim. They told us about numerous recalls on our current equipment that supported their recommendation to replace the system. I researched a bit on line and that seemed to be legitimate.

I responded that I very seriously doubted that their cost increased by such a nice round number and that the price increase seemed a bit arbitrary and capricious. I further advised them that because of the size of this repair I would seek other quotes even though I used them exclusively since 1978. Their response to my email was terse and unprofessional. I subsequently received a quotes from 3 reputable (Angie's A+). One of these companies came in slightly less than CWA and the two others came in at substantially less. I have the highest regard for the quality of their installation and service personnel. In fact shortly before this incident I purchased a new system for my home from them. I now suspect that i overpaid. | |The company that I am switching to is installing the same equipment for just under $10k. |
Description of Work: In late 2012 I requested a quote for replacing 2 rooftop systems at my place of business. The quote came in at $13,400. As business was very tight at the time and the space that these units serviced were unoccupied at the time, we opted not to do the work. This year, I requested that they update the quote and i was advised that the equipment cost had increased slightly. The quote that they cam back with was exactly $1000 more.

Full service assessment of HVAC. Found a problem with AC that was causing system to be very inefficient. Expensive fix, but worth it. Then this winter they evaluated both furnaces, and they were functioning well. Plan on using them ongoing for routine maintenance.

We knew we had a problem in our furnace with a leak from the humidifier and that we needed new filters, so we purchased an $89 deal for furnace service and they got us on the schedule 2 days later, which was great! I liked that their office called us to set up the appointment; usually with these deals you have to call yourself to set things up. The technician Ryan was very professional and prompt. It's snowy outside and he made sure to cover his shoes as soon as he entered our house to avoid dripping water on the floor, which I appreciate. He figured out where the leak was, fixed it and replaced two filters all within ~40 minutes. It cost an additional $158 for the filters and repair kit, which seems very reasonable. We have used this company for years and will definitely continue to use them in the future.

I came home on New Years Eve to find that my furnace wasn't working. I called three companies that advertised 24/7 emergency service. Columbus Worthington Heating and Air was the only company that responded; a technician (Steve) called me back about 10 minutes after I spoke with the dispatcher. Steve listened to my description of the problem and give me a few things to try that he thought might remedy the problem without a service call. When those things didn't work, I called back and he prompty came to check the furnace out in person. He was friendly, professional and was able to fix the problem in about 15 minutes. The service call was $84, which I felt was extremely reasonable given that it was New Years Eve after hours, and the total including labor was $114. I would definitely use this company again.

Contacted via email around 8pm on 12/16 to schedule someone to come out and look at my heating unit as the fan was making a loud noise. I figured we would be contacted the next morning to set up an appointment. We received a call later that same night that someone would be out shortly to have a look at it. It was diagnosed as a failing inducer motor which was removed and replaced the next day 12/17. I am very pleased with Columbus Worthington Air and highly recommend them.

Heating system inspection + filter replacement |We have used Columbus/Worthington for two HVAC installs and numerous inspections, so knew what we were getting. As usual their tech was very good, explaining what he did and answering question. |My one complaint, reflected in the Punctuality rating, is the ridiculously long window during which the tech might show up -- 5 hours! The company needs to do something about this, particularly for repeat customers.

Had the company come out for standard maintenance on our 18 year old furnace. This is the first time we have had the furnace worked on since we recently bought the house. Our appointment happened to fall on a very cold day (around 30 degrees). I was told the furnace had a cracked heat exchanger which could leak carbon monoxide into the home. No video inspection or carbon monoxide test was run. The cost to replace the part was $1000 or I could reinvest in a new furnace. The technician turned off the furnace and the gas line to the furnace as a safety precaution. We have carbon monoxide detectors, which have never alerted to an issue, but the technician said they can wear out over time and not detect it. The sales rep came out same day to give us options to replace the furnace and air conditioning unit. The cost quoted for system replacements was $10 - 12,000. I did some research on cracked heat exchangers and found it is the number one scam for heating and air conditioning companies to try and sell new furnaces - especially on cold days. It also can be very dangerous if the furnace is actually leaking carbon monoxide. I had a second company come out for a second opinion. That company did a video camera inspection of the furnace and found NO cracks in the heat exchangers. The technician also ran a carbon monoxide test and found no carbon monoxide leaking. The technician said we could probably get another 5 years out of our furnace if we keep up with standard maintenance.

Response from Columbus Worthington Air
My name is Matt Daubenmire I am the Service Manager for Columbus /Worthington Air and Ispoke with [member name removed] on 12/26/13. I explained to her that in the event there is doubt and/ or would like a second opinion, we would send (at no cost) a Supervisor or senior technician who are Professionally Certified Heat Exchanger Experts with advanced equipment to be certain there is a defect. This is our policy on all findings of this sort in heat exchanger findings. Although the crack/or hole may not be leaking carbon monoxide at this time, the condition potentially poses a serious risk.

I found out during my furnace service call on 12/19/13 that there was a crack in an area that could not be repaired. The unit was 27 years old and required replacement. The service tech (Micky) worked to make all the connections I needed to get a sales rep to meet with me. He reached out to his manager and went all the way up to his GM to make sure that I was seen last evening at 7 pm by the sales rep (Kirk). Kirk was professional and provided a thorough explanation about my options. I was scheduled for the replacement today and although they did show up later than I thought, 3 people showed up and completed the job quickly and explained what they were doing to move things along. I am totally impressed by the company and would highly recommend their service.
