+ 1 moreWhile checking the flame he noticed flickering and seemed unit was not drawing in air freely. He removed the intake pipe and found a small bees nest which he removed. He also checked and cleaned the humidifier. He also made suggestions to use run the furnace in the fan mode if house seems chilly because with the humidifier it will circulate the air.

+ -1 moreMy furnace is 10 years old, and I've been satisfied with the technicians up till now. The technician came with a filter, and before he left he said the heat exchanger was cracked, which meant there could be carbon monoxide escaping into the air. He said I could replace the unit, or the heat exchanger. He also said I could have them send a tech for a second opinion. The part is still under warranty, and the labor was quoted at $1561. I asked him to show me the crack. He used a camera on a stick, I had to sign papers that they'd warned me about it. He left, and I called another company for a 2nd opinion. They checked and couldn't find anything. The other company offered to check and see if there were any recalls on it. Nothing. He explained what could have caused a crack and checked that. Nothing. He said with them it'd cost me around $1100, including the labor and a new unit. I feel like this company is trying to take advantage of me, and it's strange the same people who gave me a first opinion would want to give me a second from their company as well.

+ -1 moreThe tech was punctual, professional & kept the area clean. He took apart my furnace completely, cleaning all the components. He did a heat exchanger leak test which unfortunately revealed a leak. It is a very old furnace that I'll now need to replace but they sent out a sales rep to do a thorough evaluation & estimate for a new furnace. My budget is such that I'll probably have to purchase the new furnace elsewhere but at least they did a good job explaining furnace sizing & costs.

+ -1 moreIt was done very thoroughly. The technician, Todd, was professional and informative. He took his time and had integrity. He even gave me tips on what to watch out for if the furnace should have problems in the future. Very, very helpful. The only negative for me was the technician was, as always, trying to sell me something that he stated would improve or protect my system. It is hard to know since I previously contracted a company that never mentioned any of these things for 6 years. Other than that I would highly recommend this company and will definitely use them in the future.

+ -1 moreIt was more than the $59 because they found a part that needed to be replaced. It was around $50 or so, it wasn't that expensive. He was good and he came when he came. He had to come back to bring that part and everything. I would tell others about the promptness and the fact that they were professional. I don't feel like they made it up as far as what they saw needed to be replaced. They did say that it needed something but we haven't had any problems.
Description of Work: It was a Big Deal. There was nothing wrong with the furnace, I just wanted to have them come and check it.

+ -1 moreOn trip #1 ($412), they replaced a bad capacitor on the outside unit, found the refrigerant low by 1.5# and topped it off, and did a leak test but did not find anything. On trip #2 (no charge), they sent out another technician who redid the leak test and found both service valves were leaking. On trip #3 (no charge), they sent out a 3rd tech because they want to insure there was not a second leak somewhere. On trip #4 ($995), they replaced the suction line and liquid line service valves. I was impressed that they sent the 3rd tech for the 3rd test -- they wanted to make sure I didn't pay a big bill and then find out there was yet another big problem. They were very thorough in their diagnosis. All the techs seemed very good and were extremely professional and easy to talk to. Additionally, a manager had called me in between trip 1 and 2 and I was very impressed with him. This is a very good outfit and I would highly recommend them.

+ -1 moreThere weren't any charges because I have a service agreement with them which covers two check ups a year and then, a lot of things to be done to my furnace or air conditioner if necessary. They were the ones who put our new furnace in three years ago. I've been using them for many years. They've been servicing my needs since the early 80s. Their service has always been reliable. Once, when our furnace went out on Christmas eve evening, they sent somebody out after midnight, who got our furnace working again. It's hard to reject somebody who does that. It didn't even cost me a great deal of money. Most of it was covered on our service agreement. I would highly recommend them. They've always been reliable since the early 80s when I first used. I've never had a problem. I've had them do some pretty serious repairs at a price I could afford.
Description of Work: Columbus Worthington Air provides heating and cooling service. In April or May, they came out to do a semi-annual check on our air conditioning system.

+ 0 moreUPDATE: Bobby of Columbus/Worthington Air reached out to me after I posted this review and assured me that his company would address this issue with the tech who serviced my unit and offered to give me a free service plan in the hopes of winning back my trust in the company. Although I did not take Bobby up on this offer, I agreed to let him refund the money I paid for this service. The fact that he cared enough to try to make this right and address the situation to prevent something like this from happening to another customer was a step in the right direction in my book. Therefore, I have upgraded my overall review grade to a B. Perhaps this was just a bad tech and not a reflection on the company, itself.
Description of Work: Bought Big Deal for furnace tune-up. Technician arrived on time. Started on inspection promptly. Told me I didn't have to stay and watch unless I wanted to, so I stayed for a few minutes and asked some questions and mentioned some small issues we'd been having, then left him to do the remainder of the tune-up. He was done in about 25-30 minutes. I asked if he'd found any problems and he said no. I thanked him and he left. Seemed simple enough and I was glad for the peace of mind, BUT -- and this is the reason for the F in professionalism and my overall C rating -- a couple months later when I went to turn on the A/C, the outside unit wouldn't kick on. I thought that was odd since the unit is only about 5 years old and we'd never had any problems with it, so I looked inside the electrical panel on the furnace and A WIRE WAS DISCONNECTED. Clearly, that was the problem. I consulted the wiring diagram for our HVAC unit and quickly figured out where that wire should go. It had to be wrapped around a screw and tightened down to ensure a good connection. I did that, the A/C unit outside kicked on (once I turned the power back on), and problem solved. This wire is something that couldn't have simply come loose on its own. The screw had to be loosened for me to fit the wire back under it and tighten it back down. But since I didn't SEE the tech from Columbus/Worthington Air disconnect this and I didn't ask to see the wiring before he left (or even think to peek at it after he left -- why would I?), I can only be left to wonder how this happened. Wonder how much they would've charged me if I'd called them to come fix my A/C. Hmmmmmm... Only thing I know for sure is I won't be hiring this company again.

+ -1 moreI have used CWA before for my HVAC needs and bought their $59 A/C tune-up special. I called to setup an appointment and they were able to schedule for that day. The technician was very friendly and explained everything he was doing. He also answered the questions I had about new systems as my A/C unit is 23 years old so I know a new system could be in my near future (hopefully not!). I would recommend CWA for your HVAC needs and I will use them for my future HVAC needs.

I will never use another company ever. If you read my review of Favret you'll see why Columbus Worthington Air is the best company for your heating and cooling. Brian has kept in touch over the last few months as I was deciding when to put in the new unit. He was NEVER pushy, always kind, and caring. He got me the absolute best price out there. The installation guys were so amazing. Once they arrived I had to head to work. I completely trusted them in my home all day. They worked hard, stayed until the job was complete, and took the time to explain EVERYTHING even though I'm sure the were exhausted. Columbia Gas had to install a meter the next day and as soon as it was installed the same guys came out to light up the furnace. Once again, super sweet. Another great thing was how clean they were. There was a ton of work on the outside and inside of my house and it was spotless when they left. They even offered to vacuum. Once I kicked on me air it cooled down so fast and was so quiet. The exact opposite of Favret's awful job. I am kicking myself for not using this company 8 years ago. So, call and ask for Brian if you need a quote. If you need a service plan get one from them! After my nightmare with Favret I bought a service plan from CW Air and these guys kept it running for a few years until it just HAD to be replaced. They could have said to replace it right away (which would have been honest) but they understood I needed time to save and had just sunk $9000 into a lemon.
