Description of Work: New high efficiency furnace and whole house air conditioning. | |Originally I contracted Swiss Air to recharge my old air conditioner. It had lost charge, as it had done a couple of years earlier. They recharged it but a couple of days later it quit again. They returned and did a dye test and it revealed a large leak in the outdoor condenser unit. That, and the fact the unit was 22 years old and used obsolete and expensive R22 refrigerant, convinced me it was time for a new unit. | |They estimated the new unit and discounted it by the $395 price of the previous repair attempt using the expensive R22. They also quoted a discount price if I got a new furnace at the same time, but I decided just to go with the AC, so they went forward with that. | |However, when they removed the old AC evaporator coil to replace it, exposing the furnace heat exchanger, they spotted a small crack in it. As an engineer, I knew expansion and contraction from using the furnace would grow that crack until it became a dangerous carbon monoxide leak, so it had to be replaced, too. They priced replacing just the heat exchanger, but they were willing to give me the same discount on a new, more efficient furnace as if I had ordered both it and the AC replaced at the same time. That, despite their truck having to make an extra warehouse run trip. So that became the clearly better option. | |It was bad luck for me to have both the furnace and air go out at the same time, but as I said, they were 22 years old and probably had not been running efficiently for a while. As a result of the change, I saved around $200 on heating and cooling the following year. If this keeps up, allowing that increases in the prices of gas and electricity are likely to keep up with any guaranteed savings interest I could get on the money, it's like getting the use of air conditioning and heating for half price. Mind you, that's in part because the old system was running inefficiently, but it's not like it was going to get dramatically better if I'd kept it alive. The technology has genuinely improved since the old system was designed. |

Description of Work: The tech came to the house in a prompt manner. That is my only compliment of this experience. The tech was rude and VERY unprofessional. He had his young child with him whom he made stay in the truck most of the time.(It was -10) He met me outside after looking over the problem and accused me of being a slum lord. He commented the furnace was "full of roaches" and that my tenants were "filthy" After he had finished his insults of houses "in this kind of neighborhood" (Berwick), he showed me the part that needed to be replaced. He then said it probably wouldn't help though because he was sure we needed to replace the furnace. Estimated cost $900-$1700. I took the part to SEARS heating and Cooling the next day where they tested and found it to be completely functional. I bought 2 new bolts from Gahanna Hardware and my son fixed the furnace for a grand total of 11 cents!!!! Our tenant told me later there were no roaches but the tech had freaked about some cobwebs and complained about their yappy dog and the laundry on the floor in the adjacent room.

Description of Work: Heat went off on a Sunday evening and they were here w/in the hour. We are set up on a mo. plan and love it - no cost when they come. They service our heat/ac in the Spring and in the Fall, wouldn't use anyone else! Been using them since 2004! Great company!!!
