Todd arrived right on time.  Had all of the equipment he needed to do the job.  Had tarps to cover anywhere debris might land.  He had to work some magic with some of the 90 degree extension tubing to make it fit where it needed to be, but it all worked out great and I love seeing natural light in the hall.  The additional tubing and 90 degree extensions added to the normal cost of the solartube.  Most installs will not be the cost that mine was.

Have never had someone clean up as well as he did when the job was over.  Could not even tell someone had been there.

If you have a dark area in your house that has roof access, I would definitely recommend getting a solartube.  This is the 3rd one I have had installed and it has brightened up my upstairs considerably.

Todd offered a $15 solar nightlight which is attached to the inside of the solartube and only goes on at night.  This small add-on qualifies the solartube and the installation costs to a 30% tax credit come Uncle Sam tax time.  Can't beat that to make the solartube even more affordable.

I contacted Todd Tamburino at Capital City Daylighting about installing a solatube in my upstairs bathroom.  We talked on the phone about the details of the product, the size of the bathroom, the most appropriate choice of products for the bathroom.  Todd sent me a detailed email that contained the information we discussed and more information about the product.  I set up a time for installation that was convenient for me.  Todd showed up on time and completed the installation within the time frame he mentioned on the phone.  A hole was cut into our bathroom ceiling and into out roof.  The system was installed without any problems.  Todd mentioned we would need an additional section of tubing, at an additional cost, to reach the roof properly but this was discussed as a possibility during our phone conversation.  Todd asked about a few upgrades during the process.  We declined a combination unit that would tie into out exhaust fan, we accepted a solar powered nightlight feature, and my wife wanted to upgrade the standard diffuser to the optiview option.  She liked the look of it and the way illuminated the bathroom.  My only complaint is the solatube adds so much natural lighting it really has changed the look of the bathroom, now my wife wants me to paint the bathroom.  This is a great product and Todd is very professional.  He cleaned up after he finished the installation and explained how to clean and maintain the diffuser properly.  I highly recommend the product and Capital City Daylighting.

Capital City Daylighting was contracted by Greene Solutions to correct my bathroom fan exhaust. Originally, it exhausted into the attic, and Todd corrected this situation. It is now plumbed out of the roof with a baffled port and a heavily insulated tube.Todd was great. He showed up on the 9th (as agreed to do this work). It was stormy that day, but he planned the visit to be there before the afternoon deluge. He expertly marked where the port should be and efficiently cut the hole to allow entry of the base of the port. He also used quality construction adhesive to seal the port to the roof (in addition to screws) and to make sure there was no loose shingles around the insulation site. He then connected the fan exhaust to the port using the insulated tubing. This work was done in short order and late in the afternoon, which helped me in scheduling. As promised, he was done on the 9th, which allowed Greene Solutions to come on the 10th to work in my attic, blowing insulation (see my review of Greene Solutions). After completion, Todd also showed me some home improvement options offered by Capital City Daylighting. This company has some nice products that can improve you home, from solar powered attic fans to their Solatube technology which provides daylight ports for natural lighting.

They did a very good job.  They came when they said they would.  They cleaned up after themselves.  They installed it in a prompt and reliable fashion  They even went above and beyond to help me with the previous Solatube that had been incorrectly installed. What more could you ask for from a service provider?

They were very responsive.  Great service.  We originally installed two and added a third because we were so pleased with the outcome and trusted this company to do good work.

We have worked with Todd and Ron on three different occasions now, and I can't say enough good things about this group. they are ALWAYS punctual, friendly, tidy, and do exceptional work every time.
We currently have 8 Solatubes, yes EIGHT! And what a bright home we live in. it's fantastic!! On this visit, Todd came to install a bathroom fan add on to one of our tubes in one of the bathrooms, and 3 of their new solar night lights. We put the night lights in the two bathrooms and in the stair case solatubes.
First, lets talk about the bathroom fan. The fan that go with the system, is an inline fan. If you don't know what that is, it is basically halfway up the venting tube, rather than right in your ceiling. This construction allows you to have a stronger fan with less vibration noise. If you have a traditional ceiling fan, it is mounted in the frame of your home, so when you turn that thing on and it makes that awful whirring noise... that's vibration.  The inline system doesn't have that, because it doesn't touch the structure of your house. Additionally, because of the issues with vibration, you will typically have a  80-cfm ceiling fan, and the inline is 110-cfm, which means it pulls more air. Ok, enough of building lessons. Back to the fan.
This fan is said to be "whisper quiet." The term "whisper quiet" I believe is subjective. Don't get me wrong, this fan is very VERY quiet, but I wouldn't say it's as quiet as a whisper, I can hear it. With that said, if you put it beside your whirring ceiling monster, then yes, I would say it is definitely whisper quiet. Having had it for a few months now, I would say it is less noticeable now than before. I have forgotten to turn it off a time or four. :)
Onto the little solar lights. What a GREAT invention these things are!! They do have their pros and cons though, which I will cover. The solar lights basically install into your tube and capture the solar energy during the day to charge them up; the more sun, and the brighter the sun, the longer the light lasts. Easy right? We have them installed in two bathrooms in 10" tubes and the stair well in a 14" tube.
Pros:  No more stumbling around in the dark for the bathroom, or searching for the stairs!
Depending on the sun exposure, they last between 3-10 hours. Yes, 10 hours! in the last 2 month, we have seen an  increase in the length of them lasting. I'm not sure this is typical, but I'll take it.
Cost effective. They are CHEAP!
Energy Saving. No more turning on the lights to go to the bathroom, or up and down the stairs, which also does not disturb  your melatonin production, or circadium rhythm. (you need these for a good nights sleep)
Tax Credit! Adding these makes your solatubes tax deductible. Yes please!
Cons: No sun, no light, or very little light. Sad face.
Stubbing my toe when they run out in the dead of winter. Lets face it, they need light to recharge, and when we had them  installed in November, they didn't last more than a couple hours, but since January, they have increased. Expect more  light close to the summer equinox than the winter solstice.
I don't have enough! Todd, Bring me more!!
Overall, I highly recommend installing both the bathroom fans, not only because it looks good with your solatube, but because it's quieter, and the solar lights for all the reasons I mentioned, AND because Todd and Ron are AWESOME!
Our home is always open to see the fantastic job Todd and Ron have done, you just need to talk to them to make arrangements.

It was great.  They came in, did the installation, answered questions, explained how everything worked and cleaned up after themselves.

And I LOVE my solar tubes.  The whole house is so much lighter and brighter.  I am saving on electricity.  Every think about this project, especially the results, far exceed my anticipation.

We told Todd that we would be uncomfortable having
the installation on a very cold or icy day and of course that is what we got.
Todd came out and did the inside work on the scheduled day and then the roof
work the next day when the weather improved. We were extremely pleased with the professionalism of both
Ron and Todd and the installation was also excellent with no problems
whatsoever. We would highly recommend working with them if you are interested
in a solatube. I checked out the knock-off brands and the possibility of ?do it
yourself? to save money but cutting holes in your roof just doesn?t seem like a
place to try to save a few dollars. The living area has become my reading space
for winter mornings and I love knowing that I am sitting in sunlight. Our
bathrooms already have windows or we would definitely want solatubes for them.
We are considering getting one for our dark stairway to the upstairs. If you
want more sunlight in your space, a solatube is a great option and Todd and Ron
at Capital City Daylighting are definitely the guys to call.

They arrived on schedule and went right to work. All the work was completed in one day. The only negative thing I can say was that, even though they did clean up after themselves (dust and debris from cutting holes in the ceiling), there was a little residual dust that we had to clean ourselves. We love the Solatubes. The laundry room and bath have no windows and we love having daylight coming into them. There have been no leaks and the attic fan is very quiet.

We knew we would like this product and the service provider
because we had worked with him several years ago to have a solar tube light put
in our family room.  That was one of the best small projects we'd ever
done - the benefit for the price is just astonishing.  We have certainly
found the same to be true of this bath light.  He consulted with us on his
first visit to see exactly what could be done, listened to our needs and gave
us several options.  When we had decided what we wanted, the install date
was set for a time not far off.  Todd arrived as scheduled and worked
carefully and swiftly to complete the project in a few hours with no
mess.  It is exactly as we planned it and provides daytime light
wonderfully well so we don't have to turn on the overhead light except at
night.  The ventilation fan is very quiet, yet efficient.  We don''t
get steam building up on the mirror anymore.  We opted to have a
nightlight added to the project for minimal cost.  Todd told us those were
being re-stocked by the manufacturer and he would bring one out as soon as he
has them.  We still don't have that component, but he has been very
responsive in letting us know about delays and assuring us it will be
delivered.  I have no doubts at all.  This is a very good, professional
company with a great product. If I could think of other places in my home that
could use a solar tube light, I'd call Capital City Daylighting in a
heartbeat.  Talk about a product that makes an immediate difference!

CC Daylighting sells and installs Solatubes, an amazing product that provides natural sun light to homes in a very attractive an energy efficient way. People from the company are excellent professionals who provide very accurate estimates of the cost of the installation, do it very timely and efficiently, and clean up everything after themselves. Moreover, they go beyond this. When we first decided to install Solatubes, we had only vague ideas about where and how to place them, etc. Todd and Ron provided extremely valuable advice on how to realize what we wanted. They also suggested reliable electricians to do the electric work.
Response from Capital City Daylighting
"[member name removed] and his family have an amazing home, and they have brightened almost every possible space with natural daylight from the Solatube Daylighting System. It is important to note that a standard Solatube does not require electricity or electricians. [member name removed] chose to incorporate light add-on kits (for night time operation) and dimmer kits (to block out daylight on-demand) in many of his Solatube systems in spaces that did not have existing electrical feeds/hookups. The lack of electrical feeds for light and dimmer kits necessitated the coordination with a trusted, local professional electrician. In most cases, if replacing an existing light fixture with a Solatube and light add-on kit, Capital City Daylighting's professional, certified installation staff can complete the installation without the need for an electrician."

We had a dark, windowless bathroom on the second floor. The thought of putting a window in sounded expensive. We ran into the representative from Capital City Daylighting at a Home and Garden show. He explained everything and answered all of our questions without any heavy sales jive. We liked what the Solatube had to offer - lighting without a window or electricity! We discussed it at home, called Capital City Daylighting and set up an appointment. They even looked up our house on the internet and called us with a basic quote! Our installer came out and did a terrific job, showed us fixture options, and we decided on one. We love our Solatube! It even lights up out dark hallway in addition to the bathroom! Great product installed by a great, local, small, woman/veteran owned business! They definitely will receive referrals from us while we decide where we can put another Solatube!

This is a fantastic company to deal with! Very professional and polite. They took all the time we needed answering all our questions. Our installer Ron did a excellent job. Our room is now nice and bright with our new solar tubes. We plan on having one installed in each bathroom later. We highly recommend them. Todd had a follow up call to make sure we were satisfied. We definitely are!

Capital City Daylighting is a great and professional company selling a wonderful and high quality product.
Dealing with them throughout the process was smooth and easy. Todd was always quite responsive to all of my questions over email, which I greatly appreciated. He gave a clear quote and then worked with me to settle on exact pieces of work that I wanted to have done.
Installation had to be pushed back by 1 week due to rain and my availability, but the installed was professional and cleaned up very well all of the debris that was created. I also heard from a neighbor that she had never seen a service person take such care of flowers and everything else as the installer maneuvered between the houses to get on the roof.
The product itself is simply wonderful. It adds a significant amount of light to the areas where it was installed and has really brightened up our home. We rarely use the lights in those areas except at nighttime. My only regret is not having more money to install these in additional places in my house!
I highly recommend this company and the SolaTube product.
