I thought they did a good job and the price was decent. I liked the sales guy better than another company.

Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the work done. The real test was my father-in-laws approval. He said it looked pretty good to him too! They completely replaced the roof which took 2 days. I had called a few other places for estimates and this place wasn't the cheapest, but they were only a little more than the lowest quote. I decided to go with them over the lowest bidder because I had a better feeling about them.
The only initial complaint I had was that they left a few nails around the house. They cleaned up, but I'm sure it's more than possible to miss a few nails, no problem there! About 6 or 7 years after the new roof was put on, we had some leaking around the chimney flashing, so I called them back since the roof was still under warranty. A guy came out the next day to inspect where the leak was (basement chimney) and got on the roof to look around. He didn't think the flashing was the issue, but he sent someone out to fix the chimney area for no charge anyway. I didn't have the leak again, so I guess it was the flashing. He did say that places like that do wear down after a little while anyway.
I would call them again for an estimate in the future.

At first the service was fine but our roof continued to leak. He stated that the leak was from weep holes that needed to be filled by a masonry. However, the masonry said the weep hole were not causing the roof to leak, therefore I did not have the work done. He came out for 10-15 minutes to look at the problem again and charged me $375. He wanted to continue to charge me more money for coming out to correct the original problem he did fix.

I wouldn't use this service provider and I am looking for other roofers on our list at the moment.

Crew, kept trying to do just enough work to get by, not what was on contract.
Tore off one area of shingles directly onto deck, no tarp.
Did not use many tarps, just dropped materials on plants and then spent all day cleaning up.
I am waiting for my first leak.

They tore off our soffits, but never put up new ones even though we payed for them.  They did not properly ventilate the roof; we have no intake for out home.  All in all, our roof could buckle due to the heat not being able to escape out of the house.  It also makes it colder in the winter.  We also have shingles coming up due to improper installation of flashing.  Our warranty on the roof does not cover improper installation, or improper ventilation which is what these guys did.  Our roof is in jeopardy of buckling and they're not taking responsibility for their work.   We were lied to a number of times and they're just terrible.

In removing old shingles, there was significant damage to shrubs and flowers. Subsequently, there was a problem with water damage, but Allied refused to honor their warranty.

They began the work in May and, after repeated calls about the quality of the work, finished the follow-up weeks/months later. We've used this company before and have always had great service in the past. This time, the experience was not so great. The shingles they replaced looked almost white in the glaring sun against a dark gray roof. Had to call several times to get them to come out and redo the shingles. Would never know when they came out for the follow-up; so, we would call again only to hear them say they had supposedly fixed/replaced the shingles while we thought we were still waiting on them because the shingles looked just as bad. This happened more than once. The shingles still look bad but we have given up. We will not use this company again. Very disappointing service.
Response from ALLIED ROOFING INC
"The roofing repair contract was signed on April 29, 2009. It included replacing the missing shingles around the gas vent on the upper second story roof. The actual repair was done on May 15th. The three tab light gray shingles we installed were as close of a color match that we could provide given the current color of the aging roof. The member did not express her dissatisfaction with her roof to our office for several weeks after the job was complete. She even paid her bill, in full, prior to expressing the fact that she was not happy with the color match. Within one week of our office being informed of the problem, our production manager sent our repair crew to her home and replaced the light gray shingles with medium gray shingles at no additional costs. We are truly sorry to hear that she is still unsatisfied with her roof repair and apologize for any miscommunication that may have occurred between the sales representative and the member."

In September 2009 the house was for sale and went into contract. When the FHA inspector came out and said all the shingles will have to be removed. A closer observation revealed that most of the shingles were loose and could be lifted up. The cause was that most of the shingles didn't have enough nails or were nailed up too high. They also used too high of a PSI nail gun that caused some of the nails to blow right through the shingles. This has stopped me from selling a house. We gave Allied the opportunity to resolve the problem and he told us that they could come out and patch it up in 2 hours and charge us for those 2 hours as well and wouldn't do anymore for us. The FHA inspector said there is no way the roof could be fixed in 2 hours. We were told by the owner that this is an average job for them. Another roofer was contracted to re shingle the roof at a cost of $800.

"We at Allied Roofing appreciate and respect the efforts of Angie’s List to allow consumers to rate businesses. It pains us, however, when one of our customers distorts the truth and, even with proof, we are unable to remove their comments from the web site. Therefore, we wish to comment on the report of September 28, 2009, by this member. By her own admission, we replaced her roof at the address on July 1, 1998. She had a five (5) year labor warranty that expired July 1, 2003. The manufacturer’s warranty was for 10 years (which covered shingles rated for winds up to 60 mph). The manufacturer’s warranty expired on July 1, 2008. The house is at least 60 years old. It was not built in 2001. How could we replace a roof on a house that did not exist in 1998? When she called our office, she informed us that she was selling her home and a FHA inspector had informed her of roof work that needed to be done. She expected us to do this for free even though all warranties had expired. It is our opinion that this request was made because the FHA report indicated that “most of the shingles were loose and could be lifted up.” The report also indicated the inspector’s opinion as to why the shingles were loose. The inspector neglected to mention or take into account the wind storms we had in September, 2008 and February, 2009 with winds in excess of 80 mph and 62 mph respectfully. As a professional roofing company, we concluded that her home could be repaired instead of re-roofed. She was still upset. All of our contracts state that wood replacement is an additional cost. From the time of 1998 until 2009 (which is 11 years) we did not hear from this customer about any reported problems with regards to the above mentioned roof work. I honestly believe that there was nothing short of replacing her roof for free that would have pleased her. We further ascertain that the poor report she gave us on Angie’s List is based on her not getting what she wanted (a free roof) rather than on our professionalism and work ethics."

The day before the work was to be done, I received a call from their dumpster subcontractor advising me that he was going to be leaving the dumpster in my driveway. I asked how heavy it was as I had a new driveway installed recently and I was concerned over the possibility that the weight would crack my driveway. . He became very rude and upset. I terminated the conversation as I felt that he was being very unprofessional. Later on, I called Doug who berated me over the fact that I questioned his dumpster subcontractor and that he was upset that I wanted to make sure that they took precautions to prevent my driveway from being cracked. Doug was extremely rude and threatening in speaking with me and proceeded to tell "me he didn't need my business" and that he didn't need the possibility of a cracked driveway. I was very angry with him as he threatened to not do the work the very next day. My wife spoke with him and Doug advised her that he was going to "think it over" and would call the next day. The next day Doug called later than he had promised and advised us that they made a decision that they didn't want to do the work and that Allied would be sending us a "full refund". We did receive a partial refund that very same day minus the Bexley permit fee. Only after they found out that they could get a refund that we were reimbursed the permit fee. (We felt this was totally unfair as ALLIED Roofing canceled on us with NO NOTICE). Very disappointed in the whole process and the unprofessional attitude of Allied Roofing and Doug personally. We had additional damage to our home while we had to wait several more weeks to hire another contractor to complete the work, which they were very good at and had NO problems with their dumpster.

I contacted three roofing companies, Allied was the only one to give a thorough and reasonable explanation of the problem and the needed fix. I had to feed another company their recommendations just to get a second quote to compare, and Allied was cheaper too. They're also very easy to reach by phone (unlike some other companies I called) and the office staff is friendly and professional. I did have some questions about the job once it was completed, and a supervisor came out to look at the work immediately and fix one add-on project that was accidentally left off the work order. They left the work area immaculate, with no evidence that work had been done. There was some room for improvement, "scheduling" the job turned out to be 12 hours notice that they'd be there the next morning and they were very concerned about getting the second half of the deposit before the job was completed. Allied accepted my explanation that I don't pay the final deposit until work is completed (and neither should you, just in case), I just had to repeat it a few times.

Doug Perry (owner of Allied Roofing), personally came and gave me an estimate. He was very professsional, knowledgeable, as well as personable. He explained everything in detail and started the work in approximately two weeks from the time of estimate. The work was completed in approximately 1 1/2 days. I talked to the jobsite supervisor at the beginning of the work, whose name was Mike, who also was professional in every way. The cleanup process was very thorough at the finish of the work. The finished cost of the job was about $300.00 more than the estimate. However, Mr. Perry had explained this to me as well as put it in writing on the contract. The increased cost was due to replacement of plywood sheets on the roof.

I was furious, because no one consulted with me, as promised, about the fact that the total for the repairs was greater than $500! When I called the company to discuss this, I got blown off quite a bit until someone called me back the next day. The woman I spoke to was the same woman who'd told me they would not proceed without first getting my approval if the total was more than $500. She offered a VERY unsatisfactory explanation for why the total was more than $500, mumbling something about more extensive damage than they'd expected. I told her I wanted an itemized bill justifying $680 in expenses (they were at my house maybe an hour). She did say she would send me one, though it's been almost a week and I have not yet seen such an itemization. I would NOT use this company again. I understand that the wind storm has roofing companies working overtime, but nothing, absolutely NOTHING, in my opinion, justifies misleading customers about expected expenses, failing to justify higher-than-expected expenses, and, most of all, failing to communicate and CONFIRM authorization for such expenses prior to charging a customer's credit card!! I think this company needs to do some serious, serious work on its customer relations and communication. I would recommend anyone considering this company get everything spelled out in writing before giving anyone your credit card number or authorizing any kind of work.

I contacted Allied roofing and Doug Perry the owner came over and gave me a very thorough and professional estimate. It was so professional looking, that I assumed that it couldn't be the best price. I got competing bids which were all over the place ($6000-$16,000). I contacted Doug and we discussed my concerns about the different bids. He patiently answered all of my questions (4-5 phone calls worth) and reassured me in detail about various aspects of the job. He said he could start within 10 days and it would take 2-3 days to complete the work. He called me 6 days later and the materials were delivered the next day and his crew was done in 2 days.

From start to finish, Allied Roofing did a professional job. When I got my estimate, they provided information and took their time answering any questions that I had about the job. They did not try pressuring me to sign right there like another company did during their estimate. Their price was not the lowest bid submitted but I felt better about their products than I did the others. After signing my contract, they called within two days to set up a time for them to do the work. On the day of the work, they were at my house when they said they would be there and did an excellent job with the installation and also with the clean up. I appreciate the job that they did and would recommend them to others.

Allied just completed our roof, I believe roof application was installed well. The crew that installed the roof had some issues that I believe you should be aware. The crew started on a Friday, they were unable to finish that day and they said they would be back on Saturday. Mid morning the lead roofer showed and said his truck was stolen and that he would be back on Sunday, on Monday they completed the work on Monday. During the entire project for four days we had to look at cigarette butts all over the lawn, that means the workers are on the roof and disrespectfully tossing their cigarette butts to the lawn. I believe the crew was unprofessional and projects the wrong image for your company. Allied wood plank cost is out of line, to replace six 1X s for a cost of $ 216.00, the cost of the roof was very reasonable, the wood replacement does not align to that theory of keeping cost reasonably with Allied. Charge $4.50 a LNFT, that is out of line.

When they got here, they looked around to see where they were going to start at, I have a stone front, so there wasn't easy access to the roof. They even covered with canvas all of my landscaping to make sure there was no damage, which there wasn't! They left that day at 4:30 PM and cleaned up all their mess. They had to come back out the next day, to finish the work. In a time pinch, because it looked like there might be bad weather, and they informed us that if it did look like rain, they would properly secure everything. They were able to finish it that day! They were very focused, and cleaned up everything, when they left. After they had finished, I noticed that my vents weren't painted, so I called them to inform them. They apologized and within an half hour, sent someone out to finish the job and before they left, they asked if there was anything else they could do!
