As mentioned, we liked the company well enough to hire them on several occasions. Here is why we will no longer hire Land Creations:
- Usually begin the job long after the estimated start date. At times, they seem quite overextended on number of jobs which may explain the delays.
- There have been occasions when particular plants were agreed upon in our plan- but different plants were installed (apparently the intended plants weren't available that day at the nursery so other plants were selected at the owner or foreman's discretion...) Also, pay attention to the size of the plant which will be installed (e.g. 1 gallon, 1 quart, 2 gallon, etc.)
- There is a one-year guarantee on plants. When plants don't survive the year despite the care put into them, they don't replace them in a timely manner- or even at all.
The final straw: We have e-mailed and called the company several times during the past year re: plant replacement. They have simply ignored my requests- did not so much as extend the courtesy of a response e-mail or call. This is poor customer service. We would have expected such service from one of these fly-by-night landscape companies but not from someone with whom we have done business for nearly 14 years.
We scheduled a follow up meeting and then agreed on the work to be done. They provided a detailed written estimate and the pricing was very fair. In addition, they were very helpful in developing a long-range plan for the property that could be done in phases.
The crew arrived on the day agreed and did a fantastic job! The did a complete clean up of the beds and yards in addition to tree removal and trimming. I am very please with the quality and amount of work done.
The work was scheduled to start in June, and we send in a $1000 good faith deposit. The work did not actually start until late August. We were billed an additional $1000 for extra labor charges due to the large amounts of weeding. We paid the bill and requested to split the extra cost in labor ($1000 difference) in the form of a credit to be applied the next project in the spring of 2014. We thought was reasonable request considering the 2 1/2 month wait time for service. (Had the work been done when it was scheduled, there would not have been as many weeds. ) My husband called the company as well. We have yet to receive a response.
We were very impressed with the quality of the service in terms of a landscaping plan, as well as the crew and installation. I cannot comment on the plants, as we will have to see how they are in the spring, but we believe they are still under warranty. I would however, think twice about using the service again, because they did not deliver the service in the agreed upon and reasonable timeframe and after we contacted the company, there was no response. (The letter we sent is below).
To Whom It May Concern,
Enclosed you will find a check for the remainder of the balance due on our property ($4700.35.)
We were very satisfied with the work done by the crew. They were excellent and extremely professional. Based on their amazing results, we planned on proceeding ?Phase II? in the spring with a similar budget, despite the fact we were disappointed that the work was not started in a timely manner from our initial down payment.
Originally, we were told that there was 3-4 week lead time, which would have the project starting in June. When June passed without a call or any work performed, I contacted the company and was told that I would be notified when we were on the ?3 week list?. After more calls and requests in August did I finally get a start date. Had we known there would be such a huge time delay, we would have made other arrangements, such as re-seeding the front ourselves, and keeping the pine boughs on the back area to inhibit weed growth. Unfortunately, we expected the work to begin in June, and the summer passed by completely without any notification or work.
We received many apologies for the delay in service, so it came as great shock when we received a bill including an extra 21 hours of labor totaling $987. While we recognize that the yard required additional work due to the accumulation of weeds, the extra work would have been unnecessary had your company started the work in the agreed upon time frame. My husband has contacted your company and asked that we split the difference for the labor, due to the extenuating circumstances. We are willing to accept this in the form of a ?credit? that would be applied to the work we wanted to complete for next year. Unfortunately, we have yet to receive a response from your company, which is extremely disappointing and disheartening.
As it stands, we are still hopeful that you will take time to consider and accept our request so we can continue to be able to do business with you in the future. Thank you for your consideration on this matter.
Sincerely,
Allen and Jennifer Withington
