We never write reviews of this type but do not want any of our neighbors and/or members of Angie's List to experience what we have had to. We hired Sean Reilly to refinish our hardwood floors. Coincidentally, he himself answered a query we had posted on Nextdoor site looking for recommendations for floor refinishers. Part of the agreement was that Sean was to remove our living room & dining room furniture to be placed in the garage & then brought back in when the floors had dried. Sean and one of his workmen were carrying a beautiful ALL GLASS sofa table when we heard a loud crash!! One of the sides of the table had dropped onto the concrete sidewalk as they were carrying the table back in (this could have be avoided if Sean had checked to be sure the side was secured to the table top). We asked Sean if he planned on using his insurance but he said no the deductible was too high & that he would just bring it to a local glass company for repair. This was the middle of August!!!!! Sean brought it to the company but to date we still do not have our table. It is $300 to repair. He has called us back twice. Once to tell us there was a problem with all glass distributors, etc. which proved to be a lie. The 2nd call was to tell us that his father was ill. No idea what this has to do with him not having our table repaired. It is November 24th, plenty of time for him to have saved up $300. Sean has not answered any calls or letters. If he mans up and pays the $300 for the repair and we get our beautiful table back we will write a follow up review. For now we have to strongly suggest not using Sean Reilly for any house projects or be prepared for the possibility of many many problems (there were others that we will not go into at this time). (this review was posted on the Nextdoor site and within minutes we started receiving stories from too many neighbors to count who had Sean Reilly stories.......most talked about shoddy workmanship and the thousands of dollars they were owed by Mr. Reilly. With regards to our floors it was a mediocre job at best with many issues. Thank goodness for area rugs but still not all the "bad" spots can be covered. Mr. Reilly did try to make things better but floor refinishing is not his field of expertise so the errors he made on our floor will always be there. You can't fix what you don't know you did in the lst place. He had led us to believe he was 100% experienced in floor refinishing.

We called this company to fix our backyard fence after a storm and to reposition a gate post so that the gate would close properly. The owner examined the fence and the gate and quoted up $600. We put down a deposit of $300. It took the company two weeks to send someone to complete what turned out to be less than two hours' worth of work and about $15 in materials (at most).
Instead of replacing and resetting the cracked and leaning gate post (too much work, apparently), the worker cut one of the gate slats in half lengthwise and then cut a notch in it so that the gate would close. I would have expected to pay perhaps $50 at most for this twenty minutes of work, but the company charged $200.
Regarding the fence, an approximately eight-foot connected section had come loose from its post and was lying flat in the backyard. The repair of the fence was sufficient overall: the fence was positioned and nailed to the post. Two slats had broken (about $3 each), and the worker said that he would replace them the following Monday with similar slats. However, the next day we received a call from the owner saying that since the work was done, he wanted the balance of the payment immediately. We reiterated that the work was in fact not done and that we would complete payment when it was, that is, when the slats were replaced. It took RR another week to nail in the two slats (~ five minutes), and we paid the company the balance on the same day.
On the plus side, the worker was moderately courteous and definitely fast once the work was underway.

The best experience I have ever had with a contractor.  Sean communicated well.  His guys were awesome- they were nice hardworking and skilled.  Sean had the best quote.  This project was the final piece of a many year renovation of a 1920s home.   The paint job looks awesome.  We get compliments on our house from our neighbors constantly.  We literally went from having the worst looking house to one of the best on the street.  Sean was patient and accommodating when we made last minute changes.  I would recommend Sean and his team to anyone.

We contacted in mid May. We had a lot of starts and stops. They did an excellent job with the house. My issue is getting in contact with the contact on the job. I had made seveal calls. And having enough men on the job to complete it. I am happy with the job just want it to be resolved. He removed the gutter from the back of the garage and was going to replace it. He was going to come and finish painting and the gutter is still sitting in the backyard. I did pay for the paint and I have called him numerous times to finish the job and it is going on 3 weeks now.

UPDATE  10/5/11 After reporting, the company has followed up with me and resolved my concerns.

Sean Reilly was responsive and helpful and tended to everything I asked him to.  The crew were friendly, courteous, and always cleaned up after themselves.  They paid close attention to detail and checked in with me when necessary.  The timing was as planned, though it took longer than originally anticipated, and the work was consistent.  When unexpected situations arose, they figured out how to deal with them.  For example, when the crew discovered the rotted boards on the side of the garage, Sean figured out how to get that taken care of as part of the flow of the work.  Overall, I was very satisfied.

It has been a long process that is comming to a conclusion. We had many suprises once we got into the job but Sean Reilly was great about giving us options and how much it would cost if he did the overage and allowed us to find other sources to complete the work. All told he has stuck close to the budget as promised and has justified the 10% over the estimate. I would recommend Reilly Renovations for any finsh work.

That was the first time I had used them. They were very professional. They really went beyond the call of duty to complete the work during the holiday season. I thought the price was reasonable. I thought they were great. I will use them again in the future.

We think they were fantastic. They were extremely proper and always on time. They were very neat and they stand behind their work. The city cited us for some painting that was being stripped and they came back the following year and they fixed it without any questions. We were very impressed with them. We would absolutely hire them in the future.

The project took about a week and a half longer to complete than originally stated. Not a big deal for me as I was not in a rush. But the project was not completed to my satisfaction. Even though I asked for the bathroom ceilings to be patched and ready to paint, this did not happen until I asked them to come back and do more than just stick a piece of new drywall up on each of the bathroom ceilings. Even after having them come back to mud the ceilings and actually prep them to paint like I originally requested, I still have to sand the one and mud and sand the other before it can be painted. While replacing a piece of drywall in one of the bathroom ceilings, they did notice a portion of the roof that had a hole and offered to fix it, which I had them do. This was actually the smoothest part of the project. They were very messy with their work. I have a silver dollar sized chunk of plaster on the floor that I had to chip off with a putty knife among other smaller pieces. The small bathroom where the one ceiling was patched needs to be entirely repainted because somehow plaster got on all the walls. The basement is littered with footprints from where they were walking to clean their tools in the utility sink. Footprints were also all over the floors as they walked between rooms despite the fact that a shop-vac was always available to clean up any mess. Pricing. While the quote was good, the final bill was higher than expected. Part of this is my fault because I did not get an estimate for everything in writing, but verbally they agreed to patch and prep the two bathroom ceilings and have them ready to paint for $50 and $60 respectively. The final tab for those was $55 and $65. In the sun porch, there is a $65 charge for an "added wall." I have no idea what that is for. The fix to the roof was verbally quoted at $70, but the final bill for that work was $75. Overall I have to do a lot more work to finish off the project than I expected. While my expectations were not that the textured ceiling would be perfectly blended with the existing texture, I do feel that the skill level to blend a textured ceiling just wasn't there. I would rather have been told that upfront and used someone that could do it. I had hoped that this project would go well and I could use them as my go-to contractor as I get my house ready to sell, but I will not be using them again.

The work was performed as planned. Each day the contractor showed up on time, worked diligently and consistently until the work was finished. The plaster work was complex, not only replacing a damaged ceiling, but re-plastering walls that have intricate wood trim and wainscoting. The completed work is of outstanding quality. Repainting the room required tons of detailed trim work around the dozen mullioned windows in the room. Again, the contractor proved highly skilled and professional and produced an outstanding finished product.

Prior to purchasing our home, it had suffered from years of neglect and poor repairs. Sean was wonderful from start to finish. His estimate was pretty close to the mark, and when additional problems were uncovered (rotten window sills etc.) he came to us and discussed the additional work and costs. The workers were fantastic and mindful of our landscaping. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and our home looks great!

In February of 2007, the drain pipes from the second floor finally gave up the ghost. The leak caused damage enough to have to have the first floor bathroom renovated. In a couple of days the work was done and everything was cleaned up beautifully.
