1. Since he did not have the credentials to obtain a building permit through my city, he asked me to obtain the permit. I paid for and applied for the permit only to find out that the city would not issue it to me if I wasn’t doing the work myself. Pinzone ended up having another company get the permit for him. He did not offer to reimburse my cost for the application. I’m not crying over $10, and I probably wouldn’t have said anything if it wasn’t for all the other problems, but it was poor business practice.
2. I had asked more than once that he be absolutely sure that the fencing he installed was exactly the same as what others had installed in my condo community in order to adhere to HOA restrictions. After the fence was already installed, it was brought to my attention that it was different than others in the neighborhood.
3. The configuration of the fence was not what I originally planned and requested. I was not aware that it would be changed until after material was already delivered. Holes had already been dug out according to original plan so new ones had to be dug out.
4. There were days when he didn’t show up when he said he would and there was no communication. The job was not completed when promised.
5. I was not happy with the application of the sand/fill material between pavers. He argued with me and it took several minutes to convince him to improve on the application and fill in the space between pavers better.
6. When the job was done, nothing was square. I realize it could be the pre-existing patio that wasn’t square to the house, but the fence corners aren’t even square and the pavers aren’t square with the fence. Better planning would have given a better result.
7. It took several days for him to come back and re-seed the area around my patio and my neighbor’s patio where the turf was destroyed during the installation.
8. I would have chalked all of that up to a bad experience, lesson learned, and just never used him again if it wasn't for this last part. I now think I should warn others. About 11 months later, I tried contacting him due to two gate posts having heaved up out of the ground, one of them by 2 and frac12; inches, which made it impossible to latch the gate and skewed some of the pavers. Two of my neighbors, one directly behind me and another kiddy-corner to me, both on corner lots, installed fences at the same time and I didn’t see any issues with any of their many posts heaving over the winter. I was concerned that there was a problem with the installation of my two posts, especially since there had been extra holes dug near them which were filled with concrete. I left voicemail messages and sent emails for Pinzone for about 4 weeks. He didn’t call me back until after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. He scheduled a time to come and take a look, but didn’t show up and didn’t call. I called him again, scheduled another time for him to look at it. This time he came and said he’d be back to fix it before or during my vacation (within the following 2 weeks). He never showed up or called. The next time I heard from him was via text about a month later, when he said he was having “phone issues” and couldn’t make or receive calls and that he wasn’t responsible for posts heaving over the winter and it wasn’t covered under his warranty. There was no offer to even fix the posts for a fee, or any attempt to work out the problem, perhaps with a contingency based on what was found when the posts were dug up, or any other compromise. Nothing. I haven’t seen or heard from him since (over 2 months ago), despite my attempts to communicate.
Pinzone may try to rebut this review, but honestly, the only issue that is subjective is the paver joint filler. Everything else is a fact. And, I’ve NEVER filed a complaint via BBB or Angies List before, so it’s not like I’m a “hard to please jerk” that complains all the time. Just an average consumer expecting a good job in exchange for my hard earned money, and $3453 was a lot of money to me.
I found bricks at another place and he humoured me by going down to this brick yard and getting the color that I wanted and using the exact bricks that I wanted.
He suggested that I use a herringbone pattern for the bricks which made it really pretty. The walkway was quite complicated because my porch is not completely lined up with the steps at the end by the sidewalk., but he found a solution for that. It wasn't a simple job by any means.
I thought that the price was excellent and I get compliments from everyone who visits. I am thrilled with it really. He was very punctual and professional. I really liked that he took a lot of time to talk through procedures and what he was going to use to prevent weeds,etc.. He allowed me to make choices on how it should look and I appreciated that because I don't like to be rushed through things and he did that. He took his time with me which was great. I would use him again in the future.
