I'd originally dealt with Robert years ago but this time Greg came out to assess the situation. He was very friendly, took the time to explain everything and answer my questions, and initially offered two options for repairing the problem. One was going to be a much more complicated and labor-intensive (and thus costlier) effort, with the end result being essentially the same--to eliminate the uncontrolled seepage. In the end he recommended the less costly option since my basement isn't finished and the cost for the other option was going to be nearly double. He said the simpler option was a common, cost-effective solution. He said their quote, which I received a week or so later in the mail, was good for 12 months.
I waited until April of 2015 to initiate the work. It took quite a bit of back and forth to schedule the date--I obviously contacted them when they were already full swing into the season's work, plus this type of work can always mean unplanned delays; at the same time, I also had some limitations on scheduling because I wanted someone here in case there were questions. I worked with Christine through the months, who was very friendly and quick to respond and update me. Everything finally came together in early June and they started work.
A three-man crew came out. They were friendly and worked hard. (They even made a point to stay aware of the neighborhood cat we'd been taking care of, who was visiting them during their work each day, lol.) Overall the work was done as promised and seems to be of the same high quality I experienced years ago. There was one hiccup but it was quickly remedied. The rains hit within a few days of their finishing the work and the sump pump has been doing its job wonderfully. I will update the status of the work later in the year.
the process of closing on my house and the lender needed a
letter/inspection from a structural engineer. My friend referred me to
Mural and Son. On really short notice they were able to come to the
house this morning and do the inspection and get the report to the
lender. Christine and Bob were very efficient and professional. They
really saved me. I would definitely not hesitate to refer them to others
and use them again in the future for other services (waterproofing,
basement repair etc).
I scheduled an appointment with Bob Mural for a few days later. He arrived a few minutes early, performed the inspection and discussed everything that he was looking at/for in the process. Bob was very efficient and receptive to my questions and concerns. I felt very comfortable with his recommendation that there was nothing structurally wrong with the wall, and that it was supporting the house, but that I may want to monitor it in future years to see if an external issue (improper draining and grading of the backyard) poses any problems down the line. He also suggested some ways to improve the condition of the yard itself so that it wouldn't poorly affect the foundation.
He told me I would have his report via email by the end of business the following day, and that he would also be sending a hard copy by mail. When I checked my email the next morning, the report was already in my inbox (before 9am!) and was very detailed, offering a solution to what may eventually become a problem in future years. If anything were to happen to the wall, I would definitely contact Mural and Sons to repair it.
"The repairs consisted of rebuilding a small section of crawl space foundation wall. The new concrete block foundation was constructed structurally correct. The mortar joints are not incomplete as owner claims, but extend beyond the interior face of the block due to the limited/no access to the crawl space. The air conditioning unit was the responsibility of the owner as stated twice in the contract. We did not disconnect, reset or reconnect the unit or crimped the compressor lines. There was no reason for us to touch the air conditioning unit. There was limestone under the fiberglass pad. We returned upon owner's request to verify this item. The fiberglass pad was set in the original area. Owner complained it was 2" off center. Final position of the air conditioning pad was to be performed by the A/C contractor, upon reconnection. The siding in questions that was damaged was pre-existing to our repairs. Due to this condition, we specifically excluded repairs to the siding in the provisions of the repairs item. We did not authorize the owner of agree to hire a private home inspection nor did we receive any written report of the inspection. Any costs incurred are his responsibility. The warranty for the work is clear and concise regarding the obligations of the contractor and the owner. These terms were accepted by the owner by signing the contract."
