The bricks that were replaced look ok but the the mortar did not match. James white did not do that work though. James white did the tuck pointing on the porch and it lasted for about 6 months and crumbled out. I realized he did not remove any of the old mortar. Lazy work. It is a shame because he took over this business from his dad who did amazing work! I miss his dad and was hoping his son would be just as great but I was wrong. I will never use them again. Really stinks because good masons are hard to find.

Quoted $800 for demo and $2k for concrete, took a $2k deposit. Showed up late and then left, his workers tried to reach him all day, dump truck driver had to wait; demo was completed. He then demanded the $800 balance up front before starting the concrete (very unprofessional). But when I asked him to show up on time and bring a written invoice when he started the next phase, he quit on me, promising to return unused $$ (i.e. $1200). He then was not answering calls, ignoring me, then sent a text with a bogus "invoice" in which he made up many lies, the result of which was all my $2000 was GONE, a totally manufactured fantasy so he could keep (or should I say STEAL) my $1200. STEER CLEAR of this guy, he should not be "B" rated, rather "F", for the f-word for real

Very well. James White and his crew of professionals came to my home and relaid a very poorly laid walkway and two blocks of my driveway. The group is knowledgeable, personable and thorough. A very nice job was done!

They are very nice people and substantially less costly then others. Quality of work was sub par, to be expected for price paid. If your more interested in price vs quality this is the company for you. I'd hire them again for random spots that aren't so visible, but anything up front that you'll see I'd go somewhere else.

It went well, he did a very good job and was a very good guy. Sidewalks still holding up.

property, tied him tThe masonry work was well done.  The chimney looks wonderful and is everything we expected. There were a few problems one being appropriate judgement.  A crew member brought a dog on the property and secured him to our rear door without permission.  Mr. White was responsive when called about the situation.  The second problem was more serious.  As the job was finished the crew failed to properly secure the flashing to the chimney and roof.  They also failed to properly caulk the brickwork to the edges of the house.When contacted Mr. White was willing to work with us and we were able to reach an agreeable accommodation. They do good work but watch out for the finishing details.

I called on a lucky afternoon because he had a full crew that just finished a large job and had  1/2 day free before starting another large job.  Reviewed, estimated and repaired the  steps all in the same day.   It was fantastic.

Initial portion of the job was timely completed.  Completion of the driveway was a major headache.  Work was needed to complete home sale.  Commitments were frequently not kept, calls not returned and a frustrating lack of professionalism ended up spoiling what began as a hoped for positive experience.

James was able to fit my job into his schedule when nobody else was able to accommodate me. He arrived promptly and gave me a quote that was half of what the competition had quoted me. He did a beautiful job and finished exactly when he promised. Excellent service throughout the whole process, pleasant to work with--and all for one of the most reasonable rates in Cleveland!

Everything went very well! James came out to give a free estimate on the stairs first. After so many masons over-pricing us for work on the stairs, James gave us a more realistic estimate. He said, "I'm only going to sell you what you need." He did just that!
James and one of his fellow workers came out and finished the stairs in just a few hours. They cleaned up very well. That job could not have gone better.
James and his worker also tuckpointed any areas that required it around the front door where the stairs are, and also did some tuckpointing on the foundation all around our house where it was needed. He did not charge us anything for this extra tuckpointing on the foundation around the house. We were so pleased and relieved with the results of the stairs!
The second job went just as smooth. After a couple of hours they completed the work on our chimney. We were quite pleased with that.

I was referred to Masonry Specialists by my landscaper who had extensive experience with the quality of their work. My calls to Mr. James White, the owner, were promptly returned. James arrived at the agreed upon time and provided me with what i thought was a reasonable estimate. The work was scheduled to be performed within a couple of weeks. At the time I mentioned to James that we would be out of town but he could move ahead accordingly. He called back to indicate that he could perform the work 2 weeks ahead of schedule, which was a real blessing.
He corrected my wall problem by removing all the old brick where there were a number of problems with previous repair jobs. He laid 2 rows of brick, mortared it all and re-pitched part of the wall apron so that the water drains away from the well. All work was done exactly as promised. I am very pleased with the quality.
James and his assistant Tim were a real pleasure to work with. They brought humor and, most importantly,  professionalism to this assignment.
One caveat: Reaching James by phone may require some patience in that his voice mail box is always full. If you send your number to his pager, which is a voice mail option, he will return the call.

Mr. White gave us the most reasonable price by far. He was responsive at first, but the start of our project continued to get pushed back. Once the project finally got started, it was a pretty quick experience (2 weeks--with rain that delayed us). They took out the old steps and kept pieces and parts that matched our house to use during the rebuilding process. They dug and rebuilt far down to ensure stability to the footer and the entire stairs. The stairs match our current house (stone matches) and they look nice. The concrete walkway (2-3 steps) are a bit messy and cracked, but a HUGE improvement from what we had previously. We may have his team come back out now that winter is over and check out the concrete to see if they can help repair anything else. They were responsive when we asked for certain things to be fixed.

A very strange experience with this contractor. After my initial call, James White said he would visit the job site to provide an estimate. I had to follow up before he actually went out to review the work. He provided a quote over the phone which was the best price I received. I simply asked him if he could provide a written estimate so that I had a detailed description of the work that was to be performed. Now for the strange part - every time I called him to ask if he could fax the estimate he had no idea who I was. I had to repeat the address and the work that needed to be done. He said he would send the fax. I waited a couple of days and no fax so I decided to give him one more shot (not sure why). When I got a hold of him he again had no idea who I was and I had to repeat everything to him.

I shouldn't have to chase down a contractor especially one who cannot keep track of his clients. I'll will find someone who is more responsive and professional.

James was great to work with. Windows look great. When I asked about some tuck pointing on my front steps, he went ahead and redid all the bricks in new mortar and charged me only for tuck pointing.

Very professional and clean job. They showed up when they said they would and completed the work exactly as quoted. It has been a few years and the sidewalk is still in perfect condition. No cracks or crumbling. I would absolutely recommend.

This is the second time I have had Masonry Specialists do work for me. Both times the work was adequate to very good. They know how to work with the materials.
They had previously performed a front step rebuild pretty well. They reused existing sandstone as requested.
The basement wall repair is satisfactory.

They did not show up on their original start date without a phone call. But after calling them I found out they were waiting on a permit from the city. Once they started they were great. The floor looks great. They left somewhat of a mess but for the price I'd rather do a little clean up. I had 3 estimates and they were by far the cheapest!

Mr. White returned my call within 2 days and set up a time to come to my house. He gave me an hour window (4-5pm on Saturday). However he never showed up or called to cancel or re-schedule. I find this behavior unprofessional and rude. I had left a family event early to make this appointment with him. Everyone's time is valuable and should be respected.

I called Mr White to get quote.  He went out right away and started the next day.  I was actually surprised at how fast they came out and took care of everything. The finished result was great and even my contractor was impressed.

James was highly responsive and professional. Returned my call quickly, came the next day with estimate and completed the job the same day. He was flexible and professional, easy to work with.

Mr. White and his crew were very capable and thorough. They surprised us by coming the very next day after the estimate and were done by noon of that day. The work was excellent!
