First of all, everything went wrong from the beginning. They had someone come out to measure all of the doors at the end of April. The doors didn't come in until June 10th. They were scheduled to install the doors on July 11th and they called that day to tell us that the closest doors were the wrong size, damaged, and one was missing. They told us that they had to cut them and that they wouldn't be ready for two days. The installer finally came on July 13th to install all of the doors. When the installer came he put everything on the living room floor and then left for two hours before coming back. I called Home Depot, to complain, and felt that I should have been compensated. Home Depot agreed to pay for the installation and I would pay for the doors. This is one of the worst experiences that I've ever had and I would never go through Home Depot for anything again.

I was pretty familiar with where I needed to find the appropriate products. People there are friendly and helpful, but it depends on what time of the day you come. If you come in the morning there are not as many people to help.

Arrived on time
removed old front  door & screen door
replaced with new front door (we did not replace the screen door at this time)
He took his time and installed everything that was on the order-trim, treshhold, locks, rubber pad on bottom of door
Installer did not damage a thing, cleaned up completely
Before he left, we inspected installation and everything was in order, door opened/closed correctly, locked worked correctly
no damage found.
Door works just as well today as it did when it was installed.
We were leary of this installation because Home Depot insisted on payment in full before starting the job.  While that is against the Mike Holmes principle of dealing with contractors, in this case, we did not get burned. You lose any leverage you have if you pay in full before the job is started or completely finished to your satisfaction.

They were having a promotion at the time. The quality was not that good actually. I waited 2 weeks to get the order. When they started the work they were punctual.

It went well. They removed the old countertops and installed new ones.  They were here when they said they'd be and the job went as described.  There was some damage to a cabinet that occurred when the counter top was being positioned.  The installation company fixed it quickly and with high quality.

The biggest issue was scheduling the job. After paying for the job up front, we were told it would be completed in about a month.  We did not even have a schedule within a month. We had to visit them three times before we got the schedule finalized. It became quite frustrating. This is the reason for the "C" in responsiveness (and I considered giving a "D").

The only other thing was that we had a 12" overhang on one of the cabinets.  We were told that we had to purchase and install the required bracing ourselves.  I was really looking for the contractor to take care of everything.

This is the reason for the "B" in quality. Everything else was fine.

In fairness to Home Depot I will state that the overall quality of the work turned out very good and I am pleased with the end result. The doors are of nice quality, the cabinets look pretty good, and we have received many compliments on our new kitchen. On the flip side the drawers are of low quality...they're cheap feeling & flimsy (but I can live with that for now), and who knows how long the refacing will actually hold up -- I believe there is a 2 year warranty. So overall quality is not bad but my main gripe with this project is the path taken to the end result. The entire project was a comedy of errors out of a Three Stooges episode. My wife and I have long been planning a kitchen renovation for the house we purchased four years ago and decided to update via the reface route because it was cheaper, quicker, and cleaner than a full kitchen tear out. We met with a few different companies and decided in the end to go with Home Depot. I read horror stories about the quality of Home Depot’s work on different kitchen renovation forums across the internet but went with Depot anyways thinking we had the backing of a huge company but more importantly we had a pretty good rapport with the salesman/designer “John”. I’m a big believer in having a good working relationship with the contractor in any remodel job so this was what closed the deal. John was great to work with and gave us some good ideas when he was out at the house to give us the initial quote and subsequent measurements. We were told that the project would take about 5 full days to complete which was perfect. John said he would be there from start to finish but upon signing the final contract that was the last time we saw or heard from him. Things went downhill from there. The next person to come out took all the final measurements and finalized the order. As the project progressed many of the measurements were inaccurate and supplies had to be reordered. There was one custom sized door that was measured incorrectly and when it was reordered it came back in the wrong color and had to be reordered yet again. Additionally two ‘lazy susans’ were measured incorrectly and are way undersized for their cabinets and the trim was ordered in the wrong color and had to be reordered. The project that was supposed to take 5 days took close to two months to finish – we may as well have done a full tear-out. The one saving grace of the project was the installers, two freelance cabinet makers who were only working for Depot because their business was slow due to the economy. The installers were very professional, courteous, and highly skilled but were treated poorly by Depot (according to the installers). We complained about the timeliness of the project (i.e. think a discounted rebate) and the lazy susan issue; I figured Depot would bend over backwards to rectify the problem but the two installers told us they would have to personally eat these costs – so the notion that you’re getting backing oh a strong company is tenuous at best. Given some of the stories they told us (and there were a lot of them!) I imagine the turnover rate for this job is astronomical and as a result you are taking your chances in getting less than qualified installers on the job – it’s as if the quality of the workers is a coin flip…. I consider myself lucky I happened to get these two installers! I later ran into one of them and learned they both quit shortly after finishing our kitchen due to the poor work arrangement (the measurement taker was fired). If you end up updating your kitchen by refacing, I would go with a company at the top of Angie’s list with a long track record rather than with Home Depot whose core competency is selling things, not installing. In the end I feel as if Home Depot is more about gouging the customer to pad profits rather than building up a strong reputation with the local customers through hard work.

Home Depot bids out their kitchen jobs, and you work with one of their designers. Ours was wonderful - helpful, steering us in the right direction, helping us cut where needed, friendly, easy to work with overall. Our contractors couldn't have been better (you hear so many horror stories!). They were professional, prompt, friendly, communicated very well (via phone and email), did quality work and went above and beyond many times. We appreciated their expertise and they advised us well. They finished exactly when they said they would - just in time for a party we were having. We LOVE our new kitchen.

This store's department is a little disorgnized, they don't always have someone who knows what they are doing. It required three trips to the store to get samples, return the samples, schedule measurement, and meet with a salesman to order the carpet. Also, we had to be home for the measuring, wait for the results, and wait for the carpet to come in. Once the carpet arrived (2 weeks) the installation subcontractor was prompt about scheduling at my convenience within a week. The installation guys from Cover All were good, did a nice job, and took away the old carpet.

WE HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH THE FIRST PERSON WE ORDERED OUR CABINETS WITH. MEASUREMENTS WERE WRONG, THE WRONG CABINETS WERE ORDERED, ETC. OUR REMODEL WAS HELD UP FOR MONTHS BECAUSE OF THIS. THEN THE WOMAN WE WERE WORKING WITH, QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR PROJECT. LEE ZION TOOK OVER OUR CASE AND HE WAS EXCELLENT. HE HELPED US GET EVERYTHING WE NEEDED. HOWEVER, BY THAT TIME, MUCH OF THE DAMAGE WAS DONE AND WE WILL NEVER USE HOME DEPOT FOR A KITCHEN REMODEL AGAIN.

GDO INSTALL WAS SUBCONTRACTED. INSTALLER BOB WAS GREAT, EVEN SHOWING UP 20 MINUTES EARLY FOR THE AFTERNOON APPOINTMENT. COST WAS $80 LESS THAN TWO OTHER ESTIMATES. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THAT THE STORE FAILED TO NOTIFY THE SUBCONTRACTOR OF THE INSTALL FOR 3 WEEKS, AND I HAD TO CALL THE STORE TO REMIND THEM TO GET THE WORK DONE. THE INSTALL WAS DONE 2 DAYS AFTER MY REMINDER CALL. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THE WORK AND WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEIR INSTALLER AGAIN.
