"because the client has a great eye for design and proportion, the kitchen and half bath are very successful build outs and remodels."
The man put forth a lot of effort and time finding like the kind of sink I wanted and other things and there were constraints based on the size of the kitchen about what you could do and where the windows were placed in the kitchen and so this wasn't so easy. I wanted a double like stainless sink and I have a porcelain sink in there that's a double sink and you'd think that you could just swap one out for the other but things have changed in their size and configuration and what he did find I don't know if you are familiar with sinks like the sink where you have you actually have two bowls but one is smaller, and that would have allowed me to have a small dish washer installed as part of his project which I don't have.
He knows his work, he has a lot of connections in the industry. He notices things that are kind of unexpected.
"Anonymous shall remain so, but this is one of the more amusing review we have gotten!"
"I'm sorry they did not let the contract to Hoffman Construction. It looked like a fun job."
Just like any job, there were bumps in the road, but we would certainly hire Barry again. Barry's expertise and the quality of his work make him a great pick.
"It was a wonderful project in an exciting neighborhood. The [Member Name Removed]'s home is a rowhouse built circa 1905. It cleaned up beautifully and looks stunning with their mid-century modern furniture and design."
When I called Barry, it was initially to find out if he did re-facing of cabinets. During that phone call, he asked some important questions to find out what my needs and concerns were. The reason I was hesitant about a complete cabinet remodel was because I did not want to have workers in my house for weeks on end. Once Barry understood that concern, and got information on the size of my kitchen (11? X 10.5?) and the aspects of what I wanted done (cabinets and counter only ? no new flooring or appliances) he assured me the project would not take more that 1 ? 1 ½ weeks. He made some suggestions to alter my initial plans to make the remodel both less expensive, and to make the layout attractive and efficient. He gave me a rough estimate of the costs, and once I had agreed that I would like to proceed, he had diagrams and 3D drawings drawn up so I could get a visual of what would be done.
A contractor is also responsible for providing a detailed contract. According to Angie, a good contract should have a job description, start and completion dates, payment terms, procedure for work order changes, and a detailed outline of costs, labor and materials. My contract had all but the details of the labor costs. This did make it difficult for me to reference how much I should be saving if/when I requested changes to the plan, so this would be a recommendation that I would suggest other homeowners should request as part of their contract. To give you a general idea of material costs, the Waypoint 600 series cabinets cost $3,500 and the granite was $1,680. I also had a new sink, faucet, and microwave installed (another $680).
Finally, I came to realize that a contractor can only provide great service if he has a great crew (and that is only going to happen if someone has been in business for awhile and has learned who is skilled and reliable). Fortunately for me, all of the subcontractors were wonderful! The carpenters were skilled, and were able to coordinate their work with the electrician and plumber so that it all went smoothly. All the subcontractors were also extremely polite and professional. There were a few extra ?corrections? that needed to be made (extra circuits, moving some water pipes), and they answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns with a phrase I came to love, ?That won?t be a problem.? The last few days of ?touch-up? did get stretched out a bit, but if we don?t count that small glitch, the entire cabinet and countertop replacement took 7 working days. Barry came through within his time estimate and I love the finished product.
"Ms. [Member Name Removed] is a pleasure to work for. I only hope that I am as gracious to my services providers as she was to us. Besides, she has the world's friendliest pit bull who looks absolutely stricken when she pets other dogs."
