I had a city Shaker Heights violation that needed to be taken care of by April 1st. I needed an exhaust ventilation fan installed, permit required. I have been attempting to get this violation taken care of since last fall. Everyone I called who I got through Angie?s List or the Shaker Housing Office told me they didn?t want the job; it wasn?t a reasonable thing to do. In desperation (because I always check service providers beforehand), I found a company, Heights Handyman Service, in a magazine that I get in the mail. They told me they take care of all city violations. On March 14th, I signed the contract. Mike, the representative, received a check from me for $511.81 as a down payment for the work. On March 15th, my check was cashed. He agreed to begin the work on March 22nd and finish it through March 24th. He called me to tell me that there was a problem with the city, and that he would be able to begin the work on March 29th. He did not show up at the scheduled time, so I called the company and got a voicemail. Later that day, I got a call back from Anthony, who said he was the owner of the company. He told me there is still an issue with the city, and that he would get back to me later that day. He did not. The next day, I called the housing inspector to find out what the problem was, and he directed me to the Shaker Heights building department. I did this, and the clerk looked up the file and found a form that needed to be signed by an electrician to indicate that he was registered with the city. That hadn?t been done, so the clerk called the electrician. He said the job had been cancelled. She called Heights Handyman Service and got a voicemail. On April 1st, I sent the company a certified return receipt letter telling them I wanted a refund for the down payment and I did not want them to do the work. On April 4th, I got a phone call from Anthony, telling me that it wasn?t his fault; it was the electrician?s fault. I sent another letter to him that day, stating that I wanted a refund and I would no longer do business with his company. I have not received a refund check to date. I filed a claim in small claims court on April 8th against Heights Handyman Service.
Description of Work: I needed an exhaust ventilation fan installed.
Overall, I was very impressed with their service. I used to use another handyman service which has gone out of business and needed a company that can do a multitude of home repairs at a reasonable price. Not only did this company give me a great price, but they completed all the violation work on time and met with some inspectors on my behalf so that we could expedite the process. They were very knowledgeable, on time and extremely clean and professional. The work was better than I had expected and I was extremely pleased with the overall experience. Good company, I have and will continue to recommend them.
Description of Work: I hired Heights Handyman Service to perform several city violation jobs on my rental. They completed all the drywall and the painting, plumbing issues we were experiencing, flooring work and door repairs and I also had a list of odd violations which they also completed on time. Great job, everything passed.

I called Heights Handyman on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 because I needed work done on a rental property. I indicated to them that I need plumbing and plaster work. No one answered the telephone so I left a message. The secretary called back and we scheduled a appointment. The service person came out and he was on time, he was very friendly. He asked for my email address and indicated to me that he would send me a estimate for the repairs the next day. I did not receive a email . I called and left various messages with Heights Handyman but no one has returned my call. I called back to let them know that I would not be using their services because they did not send a estimate or return my call. My friend called for repairs the same day and they returned her telephone call.
Description of Work: I called for a estimate. Whenever you call they never answer the phone. They returned my call in a timely manner. The gentleman came out to my rental property to give me a estimate. He was very timely.
