GUNTER SCHWEGLER CLOCK REPAIR

I think I dropped it off in July and picked it up in August. At that time, I was planning to move, which I very unfortunately I haven?t, he had about a 2-month waiting list and he sped it up for me because he thought I was moving. I think he still does the clock part time. He?s an artist and he did a great job.

It was very old, and he knew the business. He said, ?oh, it?s this company, so it must be over 100 years old because that is when it went out of business and blah, blah, blah.? Anyway, he was good and well-reviewed and local. Just doing the Google research he is well-reviewed better than the other local places. 

It was a big job and the clock hadn?t been cleaned in over 40 years. The spring was sprung and all kinds of things like that. He did a great job on it. I don?t have enough experience to rate the price. That was the only time in my life that I had work like this done. After I brought it home I had a question about how to wind it and stuff, and he answered me right away. He?s great.

Gunter was as punctual as one would expect from a professional timepiece worker. Kept me informed regarding the progress, and returned it in excellent condition. Also included a 2 year warranty on the work he did.

Arrived as promised, went right to work and in a short time had the job done.

Gunter Schwegler came to the house at a mutually agreeable time, about 3 days after I first called him. He was able to quickly diagnose the clock's problems (both with the winding-chains and with the chime mechanism), and to make adjustments that made the clock run well and chime correctly.
The clock quit running about 5 days later, when the chain-weights were about half-way down in their week-long cycle. I contacted Mr. Schwegler, who quite promptly replied that this was probably because the clock is standing on carpet and rocks a little, which makes the weights swing, and can then and quot;confuseand quot; the mechanism; he suggested stabilizing the surface upon which the clock sits, which we will soon try to do (he did offer to do this, but I said that we would/could, ourselves), and said I can contact him again, if that does not remedy the problem.

It was a great expirance.

He was very good. He's worked for many years and he knows all about these clocks. He did not overcharge me at all and I know that's true because I saw the last repaired bell on this clock at a different place and they charged more than he did. He was so nice he even helped me carry the clock back out to my car. It was a wonderful experience. He is a terrific person. I would use him again in the future.

I was able to pick up the clock five days later than I expected but we weren’t in a big hurry so it wasn’t a problem for us. He told us it would cost $45 and that is what he charged us. I think clock repair people may be weirder about punctuality than other service providers. It wasn’t working at all when we took it in and now it works so I am happy with him. We live in a remote area so finding people to do work for us is sometimes an issue. If we can find someone that will work for us we use him.

Great experience. I felt like I had my clock was in the hands of a very experienced and highly qualified craftsperson. When I phoned to inquire about the repair, Mr Schwegler was ready to drive to my house, but my clock is just a small 28 inch Hershede w/ pendulum, and I wanted to bring it to him. That was no problem. He called some days later to describe the problem and offered three solutions for replacement of the chiming movement. I chose one and a week later - problem fixed. When I stopped by to pick it up he explained everything thorougly. He is a kind and most charming person. He even carried the clock out to my car. I would definetly recommend him.

Gunter's "office" is the living room of his apartment, but don't be fooled. The quality of his work is first-rate. Our clock was cleaned and calibrated in under a week, and we paid about 25% less than the going rate for the service.
