They came out and applied several treatments as we agreed. At the end of the year, the lawn didn't look any better, and so I called them and fired them (approximately November 2014). They came out and put on another treatment this Spring, which really surprised me because I fired them. I called yesterday (April 13, 2015) and spoke to a girl named Amber. The conversation started out nice, but she wouldn't let me talk. She kept trying to talk over me and would not listen. Very rude. I told her that I fired them in November, but magically there was no record of that. I also explained to her that I had several problems last year where various messages didn't get entered into my account notes, so that didn't surprise me that they didn't have a record. I always had a problem with Weedman in terms of poor record keeping and note taking. I finally had enough of her and asked to speak to the owner, Robin. I expect he will call at some point in the next day or two. Hopefully the owner will do a better job at taking notes than his people.
I would not recommend this contractor for the following reasons: Product didn't work on my lawn (I don't count the dumb promise by the sales guy), the poor attention to detail (lack of notes in the account), the run around I have gotten when I fired them, and the rude lady I spoke to yesterday. All she had to say was "Yes sir, I understand. Let's get this fixed." Instead, she wanted to argue with a customer, and that really shows poorly for their professionalism. Robin should have a talk with her.
**** UPDATE (4/15/2015) ****
I still stand by my review because it is 100% accurate. However, the owner did call me and we had a nice discussion. He understood that my problem was with the employee and not his product in general, even though it didn't work for me. I told him that I would be willing to split the Spring application bill with him even though I fired them last Fall. I will get some benefit out of fertilizer, so I think it is fair to split the bill. He's a reasonable guy, so he agreed. He agreed to send me a new invoice that shows a 50% credit that I will remit back to him. Finally, I urged him to train his people to be more professional since his sales person and customer service person were in need of such training. Still waiting on that written apology from Amber, but I doubt I will see that due to the lack of professionalism.

Despite the rather deluxe package above, I had several issues with Weed Man. Entire sections of my yard were missed for weed control. I had survey stakes clearly marking the borders of the yard, but it appeared that the far back rarely got treated. So many weeds were growing in that section of the yard that it killed off the existing grass and I will have to reseed it. Other areas of the yard had crabgrass and nutsedge growing throughout the year. I also ran into issues with burnout where it appears that too much fertilizer was applied. While Weed Man was quick to respond to these issues, they weren't always adequately treated and quality inspections regularly missed them.
When I hired a weed control/fertilization company, I did so with the sole purpose of not having to deal with these sorts of issues. I didn't want to have to think about what needed to be done in my yard.
To make matters worse, I kept getting upsell calls for grub control and aeration from Weed Man throughout the year. I felt like I joined a calling list that I couldn't get off of. Now that it is time to cancel and go back to doing it myself, I find out that you can only cancel by calling them... *facepalm*
This is my second year of using them. Last year I paid for a full year of treatments as well as then also purchased the fall aeration and over-seeding. The cost is within 15% of other estimates and services I have used in the past. I believe that the company is very sales-focused. They are good about calling, calling, and more calling in order to try to up-sell. What is lacking is very unfortunate. First, they don't really schedule or let you know in advance when the treatments will be. I think this is very inconvenient since you are not supposed to cut or have pets on the lawn after. Sometimes this becomes very inconvenient.
The second issue is much, much more serious. Last week the technician came to do the treatment and I noted that he only was here a very short time and did the front lawn. I know this because I had someone else working in the backyard. When I phoned the company, I gave the opportunity for them to admit this, and was told that the technician would phone me upon return to the office. A week later, I am still waiting. When I phoned the office today, I was again assured that the technician would phone me and that he did in fact treat the backyard. I know this to be untrue. So, we see things much differently.
For this reason, I can't sign up or recommend this company going forward. Integrity is very important to me and I need to trust the providers that I pay for to deliver services for my home.
We had a requirement. We have three cats which are partially outside cats and so we said, you know, whenever you are getting ready to do something call us, we want to know, and we will bring the cats in, and they have done that to the letter. They put fertilizer early in the spring, the dandelion killer particularly, they do a pre-emergent seed thing to stop that. They may yet do another physical weed thing too but for sure another thing they will do at the end of the year is fall fertilization. So all those things together is the fee, and then there are extra things you can add on. There is like an aeration that they punch holes in the ground. We did that last year but don't remember what the cost of that was. When they say they are going to do something they show up and do it. They schedule us, we don't schedule them. But because of the cats they give us a warning. So from that standpoint, I think there has been one time that the young man who dose the applications was running a little late so instead of the morning it turned out to be late afternoon and I don't remember what he said, but anyhow he did that job and that was that. So they have also being prompt of letting us know when there is a problem. The young men who do the applications are legit on knocking at the door, checking with us about where do you want us to put the receipt, which we just have them hang on the front door. And a couple of times, I don't remember why, somebody from the office has called and I was here, and we had a short discussion of what was going to happen. Could be when they were trying to sell me on the aeration after forty years in the house and yard. But yea, they are pretty good at that.
I was told back in April that they would show up in a couple of weeks to service the 2nd pre emergent of my lawn and as of today they still haven't shown up. I called them today to ask when they were showing up to service my lawn and they are telling me sometime next week. I told them that this wasn't what I was told and that I was starting to see weeds coming up. I told them that their service is horrible and to cancel service immediately.
I wouldn't recommend these people to anyone. This isn't what was told to me when I inquired about their service program.
Before using Weed Man last year I explained that I wanted to try them out for 1 year only and that I would be looking to use a different company this year (2014). The service they provided last year was acceptable (no complaints). Being away from our home much of Jan. - Mar. of this year, I contacted with another lawn fertilization company who was also going to seed my yard before applying pre-emergent (I have large bare spots in my backyard which needed urgent attention.).
To my chagrin, Lawn Man showed up unannounced and treated my yard in March with pre-emergent and left me their bill for $84. I was upset by this and immediately called the company telling them that I had not authorized this and I did not feel I owed them for a service that was not only not authorized, but was actually a detriment to my plans for my yard.
They proceeded to lecture me that they send out notices and that I had not contacted them to tell them not to treat my yard. I told them that I had only agreed to 1 year of service last year (2013) and that I still did not believe I owed them $84 - but they disagreed. After further conversations later that week, I agreed to pay half ($42) if they would send me an invoice which indicated such. Instead they proceeded to put me on their "annoy with a cell phone call every day until they pay" list. I finally called them back and told them to please stop calling me and just send me a $42 invoice. The calls continued and finally I received an invoice 5 days ago which I immediately paid. Today, the ridiculous "robo-calls" continued and then a lady from Lawn Man also called to "remind" me about not paying until she looked into it and realized that I actually had paid them.
The overall experience has been very painful.
