Skin & Body Care - Laser Therapy and Hair Removal
I’ve had unwanted facial hair for years. After just a few treatments, the hair was gone. I don’t shy away from pictures anymore and my confidence has been restored. Frankie, at The Plastic Surgery Group, is a true professional!

My appointment was great...very informative, answered questions, and explained the procedure in a concise manner. A member of the billing department staff however, was not customer service oriented and gave me and my insurance company information that was incorrect. Due to her lack of customer service skills and errors my insurance company initially denied covering the cost of the surgery. Dr. Leadbetter was kind enough to speak with the insurance company and he was able to convince them that I needed the surgery.

I was extremely pleased with the outcome of all my procedures. Each was as he described from how the procedure would be done to the healing process. I have referred several friends to him and I will continue to go to him for cosmetic procedures.

I have a sincere desire to reach out to women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis. My goal is to help other women what I have learned through my experience and much research. To summarize: tissue expanders placed in previously radiated skin is a set up for failure. Mike Columbus recommended placing tissue expanders immediately after my double mastectomy to stretch my skin and prepare me for the implants. I went with his recommendation, and why not? He is listed as one of the 'Top Docs' in Cincinnati Magazine. I thought he knew what he was doing. But that is when my problems began. My skin became a necrotic black color and peeled/fell off. Basically, the appearance was like an untreated burn victim. I was much too exhausted to research for myself this entire process of my skin deterioration. Later, the reason was put simply by one physician that I consulted, stating "the radiation kills both the cancer and good cells, leaving damaged cells that lack proper blood circulation." This was never explained to me by Mike Columbus. I trusted he was telling me everything I needed to know. Finally, after 7 weeks of trying to keep my skin from falling off, I requested him to at least remove the hard black necrotic tissue. At his point the tissue was dead and delaying the healing process.. He seemed uncommitted, uncaring and nonchalantly agreed. (How would anyone like to live every moment, every day with dead black tissue on your chest?)
I was in shock when I viewed the results after the surgery. When I attempted to count the thick dark sutures it was nearly impossible due to so many and unevenness. It looked like an amateur sewing project, really it did. Also, Mike Columbus never explained how I was sent home with a ~ 6 inch long suture line hanging below my breast. It was safety hazard, possibly getting caught on something. I eventually snipped it off myself. It was very apparent he did a rush job with no thought of future appearance.
He then began to fill the tissue expanders with normal saline; unfortunately I was too weak to recognize Mike Columbus was going down an incorrect path. The tissue expander on the radiated side was stretching my skin beyond its capacity. Mike Columbus continued to pump normal saline into the tissue expander despite the severe scar tendons, striations, stretch marks and concave appearance next to my sternum. During this time he gave me the same standard answer, "just wait and see". Yes, I was still trusting he knew what he was doing but fortunately decided to seek additional opinions from established surgeons. Three to be exact, including one at the Cleveland Clinic. All concurred they never would have placed a tissue expander in my previously radiated skin. To say the least, it was dismal time in my life. I was given two options: live with my severe scars and deformities or start all over. I chose the later and presently under the care of a surgeon who's specialty is specifically breast reconstruction.
There are many more details from billing to a couple of callous remarks from the staff. More importantly, I want to get the word out about the dangers of operating on radiated skin. All breast cancer women need to be advised to use only the best microscopic surgeons. And be treated as patients with special medical needs, not like a 'drive through cosmetic customer' at The Plastic Surgery Group. Breast cancer survivors choose a doctor and facility that focuses on medicine and reconstruction rather than cosmetics. The day I walked out will forever be the day my emotional and physical healing began.

The behavior of the staff from the front door till the time I left was shockingly bad. People are treated like cattle and moved from place to place like objects with no personal attention or consideration. Extremely rude treatment. The front desk receptionist never made eye contact from the minute I arrived, was cold and mumbled. I arrived on time and waited at least 20-30 minutes to be called to the back. The woman who was walking me to the back did greet me, but then stopped and started talking to the receptionist. She then went behind the desk and starting looking at files, then left me standing there and disappeared into the back office area. She then reappeared a few minutes later with no apology and proceeded to walk me back, (how about taking care of the customer that is in front of you first and taking care of office paper work later?). I then sat in a back exam room for another half an hour. The doctor appeared, spent no more than 5 minutes examining me and telling me about the procedure and left. I was escorted on to another "holding area" for a quote by another woman who told me she had to take care of something and would be back in "five minutes." She then proceeded to run up and down the hallway talking within eyesight and earshot with a variety of people. After ten minutes of this and no end in sight, I had decided there was no way in h*** I would ever have surgery here. I stood up to leave and she said, "why are you going? It will only be a few more minutes." I told her I was treated extremely poorly from start to finish and that it had taken over an hour just to get the doctor to look at me and that I would never get surgery done there. She said, "we can mail a quote to you." I said, no and left and they mailed it anyway. I just threw it out when I got it. It is a year later and I am still steaming. How would I describe my experience? Unbelievable! Shockingly bad! And can you say "cattle call?" No thanks - not for me!

Failed two times............the second time was no charge on his part but I had to pay for anesthesia and surgery room. I'm very disappointed and won't be going back. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I will try another surgeon.

While planning for a total abdominal hysterectomy, my OB/GYN had recommended Dr. Columbus when I first inquired about the possibilty of an abdominoplasty being performed at the same time of the hysterctomy. I was very impressed with Dr. Columbus from my very first visit (consultation). He is very knowledgeable and professional, however, what makes him stand out is his bedside manner, which is outstanding! I was initally very apprehensive about having two extensive procedures performed at the same time. From our initial meeting and throughout the weeks before and after the sugery, Dr. Columbus continually calmed my nervousness with his knowledge, expertise, and his approachable manner. He detailed the procedure extensively in a way that I could understand (i.e., layman's terms). I was very pleased with the results of the abdominoplasty, as was my OB/GYN. Along with the approval of my OB/GYN, several members of the hospital staff commented favorably on the results of the procedure. During my 2-day stay at the hospital, Dr. Columbus was very attentive. After going home, I unfortunately had some complications during my initial and longer-term recovery period. Dr. Columbus and his office staff were quick to respond, and did everything necessary to resolve the issues.

He is very good, very thorough, very thoughtful, and considerate. He has a very nice manner, and he always wants to have the best with artistic results. I was comfortable with him. He explains all the different options and the pros and cons of each one to me. He spends enough time with me in answering my questions. His nurses are also very good that way. If I have questions, I can call and talk to the nurses anytime. They give me their card or their cell phone numbers to ask any questions. They schedule follow-up appointments. The staff in the billing section was very nice in letting me know about the different payment options.

His nurse was not very cordial. His nurse also lies for him by saying things that aren t true and breaking promises. None of my clothes fit because I have bulges in my back of all the extra skin. It looks terrible and feels awful. I can t wear anything short sleeve. He didn t do what he was supposed to do as far as what we had agreed on for what he charged. The $8700 included the hospital room, the operating room, the anesthesia, and his services. I would never use him again or recommend him to anyone.
