When I moved into my house, 3.5 years ago, I noticed that the dry sink in my basement drained very slowly. My washing machine drains into this and in the last month or so, I started noticing that after the spin cycle, things were still wet...this was because the water was draining so slowly that the water wasn't all spinning out. Then a week later I noticed that there was water sitting in the dry sink that had lettuce floating...since I don't put lettuce in my pockets and had just run the dishwasher, I realized that the dry sink's drain was connected to that of my kitchen. My dad tried using a snake in the drains, but the problem seemed to be down beneath the basement floor, further out in the drains, and we didn't have a large enough snake. I called Tarvin Plumbing on Monday and they said that they'd have someone out on Tuesday, Monday evening if possible. The office staff (can't remember any names) was really helpful and kept me updated on the possibility of getting someone out on Monday. It wasn't an emergency for me, so waiting until Tuesday was fine. Tuesday when Phil came, he was very quick to answer my questions and confirm what I'd been thinking...that the clog was below the basement floor. I've been in this house for 3.5 years, so obviously the previous owners hadn't done much in the way of keeping the drains cleared. Phil used a 1.5" snake and got it about 25' down the drain with some machine he'd brought. Then he tested to ensure that would suffice and eliminate the slow draining issues I was experiencing. That was definitely the trick! The drain runs completely clear through now. Phil was quick, professional, pleasant and had a no nonsense attitude about him that I really liked. I was working from home, so I didn't want to hear a long story about what he would need to do and why. I knew the gist, and that was all I needed. The service Phil provided was exactly what I'd expected.

Very quick to return phone call, schedule visit, and complete work ... all in less than 24 hours! Plumber was both professional and personable. Will definitely use Tarvin for future plumbing needs.

Matt was dispatched to complete the work. Our shower had been leaking for a few weeks and getting worse. Matt found the problems, two chipped gaskets on springs. He replaced them and the leaking stopped. He recommended we replace the entire works due to age. Matt then checked the water pressure and found it to be 110. This is highter than recommended. Matt guestimated how much it would be to replace our regulator that is NOT working. My husband will do research on this and make the final decission. Very pleased with our service, Matt. If needed again I will use Tarvin and ask for Matt.

Overall things went very well. Not only was the initial problem corrected, but old pipes were replaced and I now have a fully functioning tub.

The plumber didn't speak much English, he just sort of nodded his head and did what he is told. But, they are punctual. They came in, did their thing and cleaned up. We thought there was another leak so they came in whenever my schedule was and fixed it free of charge and they took the old one away. I like these guys.

When I initially called and arranged the appointment I was told that I would be called at 8 am and the plumber would let me know approx. what time he would arrive with 8:30-8:45 as a target time. At 8 am on my appointment date I received the call and was informed that he would arrive in approx. 45 minutes. I believe he was early, so that was fine. I gave him the parts I had ordered, he figured out what he needed and went to work. He turned off the water valves under the sink. next he began taking the faucet apart. He replaced the washer spring assembly, made sure the water pressure for both hot and cold water was sufficient and put the faucet back together. He found that the hot water pressure was not sufficient and on inspection he found that the hot water valve under the sink was damaged when he had turned the water off initially. After explaining to me what he needed to do, he turned off the water to the main house and drained the system while he went out to his truck and got the new valve he needed. He installed it and turned the water back on, and rechecked the water pressure in the faucet. He finished the job in an hour so my half off coupon for an hour's work covered the cost except for the valve part. He was polite and explained what he was doing, worked efficiently and all went exceptionally well. I am very happy with the service and will definitely use Tarvin Plumbing again.

In December 2012, we purchased a new front loading washing machine and a new gas dryer. Almost immediately, we experienced loud and strong water hammer from the washing machine. From internet research, I learned that this is a common problem with new high efiiciency washing machines. In saving water, they turn the water off/on so frequently and so quickly -- much faster than opening or closing a faucet by hand -- that water hammer is a frequent problem. I had our regular plumber fix the problem. He had found water pipes which were not firmly clamped to solid surfices, and could feel them moving when the water hammer occurred. He clamped them firmly and place. This was a necessary step, and solved that portion of the problem, but not all of it. I call on Tarvin only for the tough problems. They have a reputation of being very capable, but pricey. In this case I was very willing to pay more to get the problem corrected. Before calling, I looked for other problems that needed correcting. As a result, I asked them to plan on redoing the shower stall caulking while they were here. They arrived on schedule with 2 men and a truck. The younger person began working on the caulking, while the older person began by examining the work done on the water hammer. We ran the washer, as needed, to show the problem and the progress toward solution. He pronounced the piping to be firmly clamped as needed, and no longer a part of the problem. He said we needed water hammer suppressors, and called the warehouse to find what was available, then went to the warehouse to get what was needed. When he returned, I was amazed at how quickly he installed the water hammer suppressors. We ran the washer, and the quiet was nearly absolute. If we wanted to run the washer while we were sleeping, there would be no issues. They warned us not to use the shower for at least 24 hours -- this was what had caused the earlied cauliking to go bad. We got exactly the results we hoped for and expected, and were completely pleased with the service.

Everything went well given the circumstances.

I used them in December. They replaced the water tier. It was a positive experience. They were able to point me in the direction of what I needed and they came and did the work. They were professional and did the job fast. I was satisfied. I thought they were a little expensive, but I would use them in the future.

Since I booked the 1st appointment of the day, Jim (Tarvin Plumber) arrived promptly at 8:30am. Jim was professional, made the necessary repairs and installations, tested, cleaned up his work area and left. Can't ask for better service. Thank you Tarvin Plumbing and Jim!

The work was good. They showed up on time

The toilet install went well, but he acted as if he did not want to work on the repair of the shower-tub faucet. We had a differant plumber come in and he did a great job on the shower faucet repair and it is working better then it ever has.

I highly recommend Tarvin to the Angie community. Having your problems done right is everything. In fact they will be quoting me another job for my kitchen. I look forward to working with them in the future.

I had just had a new vanity put in about two weeks earlier. Replaced all the plunbing underneath. When he came in he acted like he didnt like it because I had forgotten to take about five or six items out from under the vanity. He told me it would be an extra $30. 00 extra to run a snake down. I thought that would have been included in the $54.00 charge. It said any plumbing for one hour. Then when he got through he said that will be $51.30. I ask what the $21.30 was for? He said we always change the water pipes underneath. They were brand new pipes. It looks like the $54.00 charge was a service charge for coming out because when he got her I had to pay more. I really felt like I was decieved. He was here maybe half an hour. Was not very friendly and friendly goes a long way with me. When I went in after he left the items were still on the floor, I didnt mind picking them up but I was disapointed in the experiance. He did a good job but attitude could have been better.Price was good but decieving.

The office was pleasant on the phone when I made the appointment and again when I had to make a change. The plumber was prompt and professional when he came to do the work. He made a few suggestions about things we could do ourselves in addition to fixing a toilet. We would definitely use Tarvin again and in fact had him take some measurements to install a new bathroom countertop.

Tarvin did an excellent job. The quote cost $72 which was applied to the work, but it was well worth it. It allowed me to get a better handle on the job as they identified some factors that I did not take into account. Mike Tarvin supplied an excellent quote and was very responsive when I discussed the quote with him. Once we scheduled the work, all went according to plan. They worked with my demolition schedule, the plumbers were on-time, professional, extremely skilled and courteous. The tile men were also extremely skilled, on-time and courteous. The quality of the job was excellent and they offered me suggestions to make the completion of the project a success. It was an excellent experince.

Quick response to phone call and scheduling was quick. Not impressed by knowledge of water heater. Service man walked in, took one look at my water heater and said, "Oh, this a power vent...I will need to call in a specialist". Looked at the water heater, pulled out the operation/warranty papers, said it was under warranty and collected the service fee. Did not fix the problem or call a "specialist" Had to call into the main number to get some answers--referral of someone who could repair it. My main question--as a plumber, who has stellar reviews, wouldn't you ask if the water heater was 'power vented' before setting out to fix one that you obviously have no knowledge of and cannot fix? There has to be more than just my 'power vented' water heater in the Cincinnati area. Good thing I had the $25 off coupon for the service call, otherwise it would have been $79. Not impressed!

Did what was asked, nice guy, was on time. A little pricey for the work, but it was fine.

Called in the morning. A person arrived two hours later on time and quickly went to work figuring out why the toilet would not drain. Multiple attempts to unclog were unsuccesful. The culprit was a low flow tube in the toilet tank. Replaced and toilet worked great. All done in 60 minutes from start to finish.

No problem at all getting the service call scheduled. Dave (the plumber) was extremely pleasant to work with. He explained everything he was doing and the advantages/disadvantages to different courses of action. He also identified any risks we had to consider. Very efficient at what he did and didn't try to sell me on more than was necessary.

The work was done professionally and cost below the original estimate given. They removed the old units and cleaned up the area afterwards. They also replaced a cartridge in a shower assembly. The cartridge was placed in backwards but they came out promptly and corrected it after I called them. Overall, we were quite pleased with their work. They were also the ones that brought their discount coupon on Angie's list to my attention when I called them to set up the work thereby saving me $54 in labor cost.

Fine, but cost seemed high.

Overall, service was very prompt and courtious. Installation was timely, clean, and appears to be of high quality. My concern is that the products installed are not energy efficient nor was one offered as an alternative. Secondly, I was not offered a tankless water heater alternative. Finally, I would consider the overall pricing as average based on price comparisions with other companies. Service was required in response to a water tank leak thus, timeliness was important. On the other hand, it's a major home appliace investment and I would have appreciated better product offerings to consider. Even though the Angie's coupon was mentioned at the time of appointment, unfortunately it was overlooked at the time the payment was made. The service man did not ask about it.
