Tarvin Plumbing

This review covers two separate events, but they were near enough to cover both in one review. 7/30 ($202). Replaced the water pressure regulator for the house. This 17 year part was leaking and didn't function properly (turning on a second faucet caused the first faucet to drop off significantly). Also realigned a pipe and check valve on the sump pump. The work was quick and professional. 8/23 ($324). Installed a water pressure regulator for a lawn irrigation system. Tested the water pressure from the street and found it was 102 PSI, which is much too high to run directly into an irrigation system. (This system was just recently installed by another company - that's a whole different issue, covered by a different review.) Tarvin installed a regulator and also a hose bib to use for properly winterizing the system and make it easy for future pressure testing. Irrigation system used "mist" and fog from too much pressure, now operates more efficiently at a sensible pressure (60PSI into backflow prevention device, 53 PSI out to the system). Both jobs were done professionally and at a reasonable price. Very pleased.

We didn't pay much, they didn't do much. We purchased a "deal". The purpose of such deals, I gather, is to either 1) give a cheap price to get your name out there for repeat business (at a higher rate) and/or 2) give a cheaper labor price to up-charge on materials or vice versa. Well, we really didn't get anything here. We bought the deal, emailed the details. The main things we needed were to have a dish washer hooked up and leak stopped where the garbage disposal is located. Turns out those things are both related and all it needed was a hose. The hose is apparently a simple affair but they didn't have the part (and apparently couldn't or weren't willing to get one). They told us to "call an appliance guy" for the hose hook up. Why? It's a hose that connects to... plumbing. Whatever. Since we said what the issues were in written form, perhaps they could have been better prepared with the proper stuff OR simply told us "we don't do that" upfront so we could have perhaps contacted someone else. There was also a pedestal sink and they didn't have the part for that. We had also mentioned this in written form prior (briefly, but it was mentioned)... We didn't feel like they did "college try" here...It should be noted the company and worker were professional, prompt, had very good communication, etc...They just didn't really do much and we didn't think our issues were earth shatteringly difficult.

Great service! The utility sink is at least 30 years old. The faucet has separate hot and cold handles. When the plumber told me the entire cold water handle was bad, I expected an new faucet. instead, the plumber was able to repair the handle. He shined up the entire faucet and it all looks and works great!

Jim arrived on time and was very courteous and looked at the two things I needed done. He did a fine job and explained what needed to be done. He worked very efficient and wasted no time at all.

They couldn't open the vent pipe--not their fault.

The plumber was an elderly gentlemen that worked very slowly. He took a very long time to fix the leak and they charge by the hour. After he left I was not happy with how long it took or the charge of $140 to fix a simple leak. Five weeks later the same cold water faucet he had taken off stopped working and when I called to have them come back and look at it the man told me that it would be a minimum of a $200 charge because it was a Saturday. I said "so we won't have cold water to shower for 2 days unless we want to pay $200?" and he said "yes". I told him I was an angie's list customer and their company was not living up to their reviews on angie's list and he basically said I don't know what to tell you. I will not be using this company again!

They fixed the issue, but at the same time, we thought that they would clean up their mess after the work. So we had to clean all the crap all over the floor.

Dave the technician was very skilled. He worked quickly and neatly, cleaning up completely when done. I'm very happy with the service and feel that the price was fair.

They were very punctual. Called when they said they would and arrived when they said they would. Very polite and pleasant and worked quickly. Very stress free. Overall great experience.

First, Tarvin allowed me to use their "Angie's list coupon" even though customers are not normally allowed to use it more than once per year. It was greatly appreciated and saved us half the cost of the of the procedure. We had no problems. The appointment was made for Friday morning at 9 am and Dave called at 8:30 to let us know he was on his way. The Backflow check took about an hour and our plumbing was certified to be in working order with no problems. The people at Tarvin are all very polite, friendly and really go that extra mile for their customers--we were going to miss our deadline set by the city for service, so Tarvin's office staff called the city for us, and got an extension. I will always use Tarvin Plumbing and can recommend them without hesitation.

hit a couple of problems but solved them in a timely way

When Tarvin's plumber arrived the toilet would not flush. He told us that it was probably limed up and could not be fixed, and, worse, that removing it might result in significant structural damage to the floor, depending on how it had been seated. From there, however, it was all down hill. They old toilet came away cleanly. The plumber went to Home Depot and found a good quality replacement toilet with a foot print large enough to cover the opening in the tile left by the removal of the old unit. It was a best part of the day job but when he was finished, it looked right and worked right. He also prompted us to look for a $25.00 off Tarvin coupon in our most recent Angie's List magazine.

I joined Angie's List to find a reputable plumber after a 45 minute $600 on two toilets that were running experience with another in Cincinnati. Tarvin Plumbing was everything the previous reviews promised. They were professional, timely, very fair and even had an Angies list coupon. I would highly recommend them for any work and will use them again myself. I could not have been more pleased with the outcome. I cannot say enough positive things about this experience. The enthusiasm may be a little over the top, but it is because historically we have received questionable services and fees from other providers. They were a breath of fresh air. The gentleman fixed both items in a very short period of time after giving us an estimate of cost for the repair, when we received the final bill, his estimate had not deducted the coupon so it was even lower than anticipated. Everything is in good working order and we are very happy customers.

Great. Jim was my repairman. He took the time to test and make sure that the regulator was bad. Since my water line was 1 inch, instead of the normal 1/2 or 3/4, he didn't have the proper supplies. He said that if I wanted to pick them up myself, it would save a little money as he would prepare the pipes for the new part. He called Keidel Supply and ordered the parts and I picked them up. By the time I got back he was ready to install the regulator. I mentioned that my toilet was loose and he shimmed it up. He also discovered a slight crack in the tank and said I should think about replacing the toilet before it cracked further. I was very pleased with his experience and work.

He came on time the day he arranged and worked really quickly. The cost was quite a bit lower than the original due to your coupon! We will always call this company for any plumbing needs. Thank you!!

Jim came when he said he would. He first thought the leaking hot water tank could be repaired but the leak was too severe. He suggested I call to see if the heater was still under warranty with the company that had installed it but of course it wasn't. He discussed options with me and allowed me to make my own decision about replacement. I selected one with an extended warranty--a little more expensive but better peace of mind and recommended by Consumer Reports. The new heater was delivered by an associate while he worked on other problems so that his time was used efficiently. The work was done quickly and neatly, including removal of the old tank and other stuff. I mentioned that I had been having occasional problems with the toilet handle hanging up on my very old toilet. He pointed out a crack in an interior part that was on the verge of breaking completely and replaced it along with connecting parts. My drains had been slow when doing laundry so he cleaned out the drains and now they work great. The hoses to my washer were over 20 years old, hard and cracking so I had those replaced. He even helped me clean out years of accumulated dirt behind the washer. He generally checked out other faucets and the disposal and said they were fine. He was great to work with, checking on each problem as I brought it up in a "since you are here" mode. I never felt like he was ignoring me or rushing to get to another job. I now feel very secure with my plumbing situation. The coupon for an hour of plumbing was greatly appreciated. I recommend Jim at Tarvin Plumbing without reservation.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They were very good and very reasonably priced. He did it timely. We thought he would have to solder on an inside wall to fix the leaking faucet and it was not that complicated. He fixed it quickly so it was a relief. The cost was under expectations. I've used them in the past so this was a return visit.

Very professional. I called and they came on time and finished within one hour. Very pleased.

The service was good, it was pretty standard.

Tarvin set an approximate appointment time. Arrived on time and clean up was excellent. Very professional and courteous.

Came as promised and only charged for 2/3 hours worth of service. Many charge a whole hour when they first arrive even if they are done with the job in 20 min. Actual bill was $169 but we used $25 coupon from Angie's list. Parts to fix were $80+ dollars and the additional was for the service charge of 2/3 hours.

It was fine, but the service I ended up needing was actually much shorter than what I purchase so in the end I am wondering if it would have been cheaper for me if pay the regular price because I did myself the time and then they needed to use the machine to unclog the drain and I had to pay extra for that so I thought they were good, but I felt like I didn't really get a good deal. As far as service they are good. I would use them again in the future.

Issues for Plumber: Leaking commode and kitchen faucet. When the plumber got to my house he looked at commode that was leaking and was told it would take over 200.00 to fix the commode. He did tell us the trouble spots on the commode. I suggested then buying a new commode would be cheaper than fixing the old one. I ended up calling my son to come over and fix the commode which he did and didnt cost me anything. Plumber looked at the kitchen faucet I had bought and called me to suggest I get a better brand faucet. The one I chose was not a good brand. I have had the best brand on there and only get about two years use out of those. I told him to go ahead and put the faucet on that I had bought, which he did but also charged me an extra fee of 72.00. So in reality I spent 126.00 to get a kitchen faucet put on. I think the guy overcharged us, he was there no longer than an hour and I was under the impression that was what I paid for by buying the 54.00 for 1 hour service. Not the case at all. If I would have had him fix the commode plus the sink it would have been over 400.00. I was/am very unhappy with the cost and the attitude of the plumber who visited my house.
