Tanyas Image & Wellness Salon

It was my first visit and everything went very well. I have never been so happy walking out of a salon. I saw Brandy. She spent a lot of time with me and taught me how to take care of my hair afterwards. I have had more compliments on my hair this time than I ever have had. The pricing was more than I am used to spending but it was well worth the quality of service. It was very easy to schedule an appointment and they got me in very quickly. I already have another appointment scheduled.

I was hoping to find a new stylist. I went to Laura four times. Each time she was running late from twenty minutes to and HOUR. My hair cuts then took over an hour. When I got color services and a cut, I was once there for three hours. When I complained about having to wait an hour before my appointment, the receptionist was apologetic, but Laura was not. The receptionist said Laura would discount my services because I had to wait so long. I do not believe I received any discount because my bill was what I paid before. I love the chairs for shampooing (the client reclines to lie back completely) and the complimentary hand and arm massage as well as having my rings cleaned, so I am disappointed that Laura did not work out.. The massage therapist at the Hyde Park location is EXCELLENT.

I call this salon the Bait and Switch salon. I have never reported them, until now. I went there for haircuts with Tanya, which were great. After a few haircut appointments, she said she was too busy and cutting back her hours, and would I see her 'assistant'... So, I did for several more haircuts until I finally found another hair stylist. This assistant treated me with disrespect. She was half my age. At the last haircut, she whirled my chair around to see all the other clients in the salon and said 'doesn't she look cute?'. How embarassing, and it was an awful cut and style. Also, when I would walk in to the salon for my haircut appointments with her 'assistant', I would hear the receptionist scheduling appts for Tanya, and Tanya was always there. I believe Tanya was using her name and reputation to gain clients and then passing them off to the new hairdressers she trained.

My visits are always pleasant and the stylists are conscientious and will take as long as necessary to please me. On the couple of times I have not been happy with haircut, it has been completely redone at no additional cost by either Rae or Liz. This is an outstanding salon and I was shocked to see them listed under Worst Contractors because of one unhappy customer. Not fair.

I also got waxed there the week before and it was wonderful! I am very happy and will definitely be returning to Tanyas!

When I booked this appointment I asked for a price for "hair relaxing" and was quoted $125 There was no mention of a "keratin treatment" or of any other choices. My daughter has had the relaxing done at another salon before, and the $125 was comparable in price. My daughter went for the appointment, and when she was checking out they told her it was $385 plus tip. She was stunned and didn't know what to do other than write the check. She also spent $40 of her own money on the tip. After learning of this I immediately called the salon and explained that this was not at all what I was told. I didn't even know what a keratin treatment was much less book my daughter for one, and I would never have agreed to make an appointment for such a costly treatment. Basically, my husband and I tried to come to a reasonable compromise since there was obviously a misunderstanding. I was willing to split the difference and pay $250 for the treatment, but I don't think considering what I was told that I should have to pay $385. The owner of the salon basically believed her staff who told her that they quoted me prices for various treatments and did not even bother to speak to me. What I said happened was irrelevant, and they were not going to work with me to find a compromise. This was actually the second incident of terrible customer service I experienced at this salon within 2 weeks. I made an appointment with someone who was specifically recommended by my regular stylist who was on leave. Without even calling me (although she claims she did) I was bumped to another stylist. There was no explanation or apology offered by the stylist. This business is extremely short sighted when it comes to customer service. Although their work is good their professionalism leaves much to be desired.

Tanya is the owner and I see Rachel Bayer. Rachel makes my hair look good. I started going to Tanya because I used to get my hair colored. They would color my hair and you could not tell. I liked the way Rachel cut my hair better, so I stuck with her. They have all types of spa services, like massages and pedicures. I like that I don't have hair all over me when I leave. She washes and cuts my hair, washes it again and gives me a hot towel for my face. They always offer to do a hand and arm massage. They do extra touches that make you feel pampered. I changed salons 5 times before I found these people. I keep going back to them. I have never had a problem with an appointment. The price is reasonable and they do nice work.
