The mortgage broker had a good system in place for keeping us informed along the way. He appeared to be responsive to our needs, and all went well on our mortgage application until it went through underwriting.
I understand there has been a drastic change in the way finance companies work in the past three years, but they jeopardized my standing at my new job. Thursday after business hours, before a scheduled Tuesday closing, they requested a letter from my employer by Friday morning. We were told the home loan closing was dependent on this letter.
The HR rep was out of town, and they badgered my employer--and me, at a client's office--until the HR rep took time out of her scheduled meetings to dictate the letter to an assistant in the home office. It was faxed Friday afternoon, not even one work day from when it was requested.
Even worse, the critical letter was apparently to verify that I would not be transferred soon. Of course, the employer was reluctant to answer that letter. If they said no, and then transferred me, I could sue them for breach of conduct. If they said yes, it would jeopardize our mortgage loan. All in all, this was not a good impression of me on my new employer, and especially on our client.
The closing was delayed 3 days, supposedly because my employer had not responded in a timely manner. Closings get delayed, but I wish they had not sprung a 3-day delay on us at the last minute. It did put us into a bind. And I wish they had not blamed my employer when the HR rep went out of her way to provide what they had requested.
