We had two windows (small bathroom and large bay window) that needed the glass replaced as the seals had decayed over time. Moisture got in between the glass and caused the panes on the inside to be dirty. My wife and I really wanted the glass clean since we have such a great view of the backyard from the larger window. We called Pickens about fixing the issue since they had rebuilt a screen door for us and did a fantastic job on that. I will say you do have to pay for a tech to come out and give an estimate but we saved hundreds by only replacing the glass and not the entire window. The techs came out at the scheduled time and did a great job putting in the new glass. Windows look great and we have a new trusted vendor if we ever have another issue with our windows.

Since the part of the window I needed help with was on the upper part of the window, the repairman just put in a screw to lock the upper pane in-place. I was only charged for the service call.

Prices quoted at the time of scheduling were COMPLETELY different than the prices charged at the time of repair. The repair was done without giving an estimate. When calling Brian to discuss the fact that prices weren't given up front, he became very argumentative and hostile.

I had a great experience with every person I talked to at Pickens. It is an extremely well and efficiently-run company. I had problems with a large picture window that needed fixed/replaced and Brian Pickens was very accessible to talk to over the phone. He was gracious and straightforward, going out of his way to try to think of solutions to my problems. Even though his nickname is "Grumpy," he was anything but that. They sent Gary and helper over to fix the balancers and look at the big window. Gary worked very quickly to keep my costs down and when he could fix the problem with just silicone to further keep my costs down, he did. All those windows work great now!. He gave me a professional and honest appraisal of the problems with the big window and said they could not fix it. The only thing I did not love about working with Pickens was the 8am sharp phone call to confirm the job (you must answer or call right back), but I have to say it would be well worth getting up early (I had my husband take the call so I could sleep, lol). I highly recommend this family-run company - they are a great option to repair windows and keep them operating smoothly so you don't have to replace them.

Great! I don't know the names of the guys who were here, but they came in and got right to work. They knew exactly how to repair the windows that would not stay up and had the parts on hand to fix them. They looked at the windows that are leaking and don't think it's a problem with the windows. They suggested I have a handyman take a look a the caulking around the windows. If you need windows repaired call now! I had to wait over a month to get an appointment.

Bad. Gary, the technician, fixed one panel of the window, charged 195 dollars and left. The casement window we pointed to had two panels that folded out, he did half the job and left. I called and he said he could come in afternoon, but it would be another call, so charge us more. I called his shop to complain, and had to talk to Gary's 'assistant', who essentially stuck to the party line and took Gary's side. The supervisor, Bryan, was on a trip till another 5 days, and would call back when back. Overall, left a bad taste in my mouth that the tech came did half the job, and wanted more money to come back and finish what he should have done in the first place. I'll update this review if they do the right thing.

The owner, Brian Pickens, explained to me that if the windows were in good shape (i.e. not rotted), it would be much cheaper to repair than to replace.   He was definitely right.   It would have cost about $2000 a window to replace.

I had several windows where the sash would not stay up and would slide down when opened.  I called for an service call/ estimate, which is no charge if the work isn't started.    The service tech, Gary, was able to fix all of the sash sliding issues in the first visit and in less than an hour.  I was very impressed.   To adjust 7 windows took less than an hour and they were fixed.

Based on the first experience, I scheduled a second service call to correct gaps in several windows.   I went to the store and explained the issue to the service tech so he was prepared for the call.   Again, all the windows were repaired in less than an hour.

While at the store, I decided to get some new weather stripping.  Terri, the customer service rep, was very helpful in matching my current weather stripping from the multiple option available.  I have replaced all the weather stripping on my windows.

Now my windows are almost as good a new, for much less that replacement cost.

"I have received your comments and proceeded to look at the customer history in our system and find no notes more recent than January of 2015. I take these ratings very serious and wish to find out what problem the customer had. I do not know if we entered the customer's name incorrectly or keyed in the phone number improperly or what, thus not allowing me access to the data locked up in our system I hope that the customer will give us a call and talk to the owner so we can get this straightened out. 513-931-4432"

They noticed the door had bad rollers. They fixed the door so that it would slide better. They also removed a damaged screen and took it to the shop for rescreening. The workers where on time, courtesy and friendly. I would recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

I was quoted an enormous price ($1,500.00) but agreed to it since Tom told me that this is really a one time huge expense and that the windows should be fine for many many years.   I was not happy with the price but agreed that the windows  would be repaired and that i would not have any more problems with them.  You would think that would be the case considering you spent $1,500 for roughly four  hours of labor.  I called the company and explained that one of my windows that they apparently "repaired" would not stay open and that one of the strings broke off.  The owner called me and told me that there is only a 3 month warranty and that I would be charged a service fee for coming out to look at the window (lt was a HUGE service fee) I asked him if he could come out to my house to look at the window when he is in the Anderson Township area.  I felt that I was a good customer and that he would want to stand by  his workmanship.  Looks like they  only stand by their workmanship for three months.  Doesn't matter if  you spent thousands of dollars - they only guarantee it for three months.  Shame on the owner for charging such hefty fees and
not having good customer service.  .  I will grade this company  an F in all areas since I was told that I should not have any more problems  with the windows - a person would think that after being charged $1,500.00

"I am sorry that [Member Name Removed] is having problems with her windows, but we will be glad to come out and service them again at our normal service rates. [Member Name Removed] had work done on her home almost THREE years ago and there is a limit to how long we will warrant our work. [Member name Removed] makes it seem that we only supplied labor to do her job, she left out all of the parts that we had to locate and install. So a lot more went into her job than she implies."

I'm extremely happy with the effort to which they went to get me what I needed. They searched through their huge inventory until they found just the right parts. They were very helpful in being sure that it all would work.
I don't know the name of the lady with whom I primarily worked, but I can't say enough about her concern for finding the right parts and being sure they would work for me.
I don't think there are many places like this left who would care enough to spend the time in helping a customer, especially with a rather small purchase. This is what service should be like and, thankfully, at this shop still is.

Based on recommendations from another Angie's list contractor that we used I called Pickens Window Service in May 2014.  Based on the initial contact with Pickens we decided on a couple of projects updating the old screen doors to our house that came with the French Doors to the patio.  The doors are about 30 years old and are in good shape but the screen doors were a mess.

We had taken off the old frames to the screen doors and put them in storage for years.  During that time we tried some adjustable screen doors from Home Depot but they never fit right and always came off the tracks no matter how many times we adjusted them.   One day Ron Sauder ( Another Angie's List Contractor ) was installing some locks and while discussing other issues we talked about the problem with the screens.  When telling Ron about the original frames he recommended getting the original doors rescreened and repaired at Pickens.  That is where it all started.  After contacting Pickens we sanded the old aluminum frames down, primed them a couple of times and put three coats of white enamel on them.  After they dried we took them to Pickens and they did a great job of rescreening, fixing any rollers that needed repair, and replacing a missing handle on one of the doors.  They also recommended some weather/bug strips to seal the gaps on the doors.  They also recommended what screen material to use for the location and usage of the door.  There were several to choose from and considering the high traffic area of the location we went with their recommendation and it has held up well.  Nine months later and the screen doors look brand new even though they are over 30 years old.  Using the original frames gave us the perfect fit screen doors that now work like they did when the doors were installed.

After such a successful project with those two doors we then called Pickens back for another doorway where the original screen door was lost.  They came out and measured the door area and built another sliding screen door to specifications They

also did a good job with the color match.  That screen door also works great.   We did both of these projects last year with Pickens Window service and could not be more pleased with the outcome.

Called to get a ballpark estimate to fix wheels on hard to roll sliding door.  Was told it would be less than $200.  First visit was 03/18/14.  They did not have wheels to fit sliding door.  Several weeks later, office called to state they found wheels.  On 07/10/14 they came and put on new wheels.  Total charge was $370.68!!!  I was dumfounded.  They charged $45.68 for parts, $55.00 for trip charge and $270.00 for labor.  Absurd!  Would definitely not use again!  I could have purchased an entirely new door for that price!  They also do not give senior discounts or Angie's members discounts.
Response from Pickens Windows Service
"I believe that Ms. [removed member name] misunderstood what our rates are and what the cost of repairing her door could be. First of all everyone in my office that answers the phones knows what our rate schedule is,charges are and that for patio doors their is always a minimum of TWO men on the job. For safety reasons because patio doors are very heavy and awkward we always have a minimum of two men on a patio door job. So the first hour alone is $192.00 each man is at $96.00 an hour, so her entire labor charge for both trips was for only 1 1/2 hours for two men. Thus her belief that the job would be under $200.00 would barely cover the labor cost if the job went perfectly, which it did not. Plus their is a $55.00 trip charge, paid one time on the job, then you have the cost of the rollers. In the case of the rollers, although we stock over 175 different patio door rollers we do not have them all and then we need to pull a sample and try and locate it. Which is what we did and this can take some time. The rollers today average about $22.00 each, so her rollers were right in line with today's cost. I am sorry that the bill seemed excessive but unfortunately all of our cost have done nothing but gone up and thus we are forced to charge what we do in order to stay in business."
