I had several windows where the sash would not stay up and would slide down when opened. I called for an service call/ estimate, which is no charge if the work isn't started. The service tech, Gary, was able to fix all of the sash sliding issues in the first visit and in less than an hour. I was very impressed. To adjust 7 windows took less than an hour and they were fixed.
Based on the first experience, I scheduled a second service call to correct gaps in several windows. I went to the store and explained the issue to the service tech so he was prepared for the call. Again, all the windows were repaired in less than an hour.
While at the store, I decided to get some new weather stripping. Terri, the customer service rep, was very helpful in matching my current weather stripping from the multiple option available. I have replaced all the weather stripping on my windows.
Now my windows are almost as good a new, for much less that replacement cost.
"I have received your comments and proceeded to look at the customer history in our system and find no notes more recent than January of 2015. I take these ratings very serious and wish to find out what problem the customer had. I do not know if we entered the customer's name incorrectly or keyed in the phone number improperly or what, thus not allowing me access to the data locked up in our system I hope that the customer will give us a call and talk to the owner so we can get this straightened out. 513-931-4432"
not having good customer service. . I will grade this company an F in all areas since I was told that I should not have any more problems with the windows - a person would think that after being charged $1,500.00
"I am sorry that [Member Name Removed] is having problems with her windows, but we will be glad to come out and service them again at our normal service rates. [Member Name Removed] had work done on her home almost THREE years ago and there is a limit to how long we will warrant our work. [Member name Removed] makes it seem that we only supplied labor to do her job, she left out all of the parts that we had to locate and install. So a lot more went into her job than she implies."
I don't know the name of the lady with whom I primarily worked, but I can't say enough about her concern for finding the right parts and being sure they would work for me.
I don't think there are many places like this left who would care enough to spend the time in helping a customer, especially with a rather small purchase. This is what service should be like and, thankfully, at this shop still is.
Based on recommendations from another Angie's list contractor that we used I called Pickens Window Service in May 2014. Based on the initial contact with Pickens we decided on a couple of projects updating the old screen doors to our house that came with the French Doors to the patio. The doors are about 30 years old and are in good shape but the screen doors were a mess.
We had taken off the old frames to the screen doors and put them in storage for years. During that time we tried some adjustable screen doors from Home Depot but they never fit right and always came off the tracks no matter how many times we adjusted them. One day Ron Sauder ( Another Angie's List Contractor ) was installing some locks and while discussing other issues we talked about the problem with the screens. When telling Ron about the original frames he recommended getting the original doors rescreened and repaired at Pickens. That is where it all started. After contacting Pickens we sanded the old aluminum frames down, primed them a couple of times and put three coats of white enamel on them. After they dried we took them to Pickens and they did a great job of rescreening, fixing any rollers that needed repair, and replacing a missing handle on one of the doors. They also recommended some weather/bug strips to seal the gaps on the doors. They also recommended what screen material to use for the location and usage of the door. There were several to choose from and considering the high traffic area of the location we went with their recommendation and it has held up well. Nine months later and the screen doors look brand new even though they are over 30 years old. Using the original frames gave us the perfect fit screen doors that now work like they did when the doors were installed.
After such a successful project with those two doors we then called Pickens back for another doorway where the original screen door was lost. They came out and measured the door area and built another sliding screen door to specifications They
also did a good job with the color match. That screen door also works great. We did both of these projects last year with Pickens Window service and could not be more pleased with the outcome."I believe that Ms. [removed member name] misunderstood what our rates are and what the cost of repairing her door could be. First of all everyone in my office that answers the phones knows what our rate schedule is,charges are and that for patio doors their is always a minimum of TWO men on the job. For safety reasons because patio doors are very heavy and awkward we always have a minimum of two men on a patio door job. So the first hour alone is $192.00 each man is at $96.00 an hour, so her entire labor charge for both trips was for only 1 1/2 hours for two men. Thus her belief that the job would be under $200.00 would barely cover the labor cost if the job went perfectly, which it did not. Plus their is a $55.00 trip charge, paid one time on the job, then you have the cost of the rollers. In the case of the rollers, although we stock over 175 different patio door rollers we do not have them all and then we need to pull a sample and try and locate it. Which is what we did and this can take some time. The rollers today average about $22.00 each, so her rollers were right in line with today's cost. I am sorry that the bill seemed excessive but unfortunately all of our cost have done nothing but gone up and thus we are forced to charge what we do in order to stay in business."
