I did not call ahead, I simply waited in the shop and they spent approx. 30 min fixing both bikes and then put them back in my van for me. He actually told me that the gear shifter could be repaired by simply putting some solvent in it and placing it upside down. He said if that did not work to come back, but he talked me through what to do at home to avoid a more expensive repair.

Fantastic! I brought the bike in and wasn't sure how long it would take them to get it fixed. They were eager to take such a small repair job, and actually had it ready the next morning. I didn't need it back for 3 days, so I was very happy.
