When they didn't come back Saturday, I left frantic messages- their reply was that when they said they would be back the next day they "forgot what day it was" and that they didn't normally work Saturday without permission. Given how clear I had been about deadlines, I would have thought that they could have permission to finish off the job-it only took an hour.
Of course instead of an apology I just received the remainder of the bill from Terry, the manager of the division. Terry claims he didn't know they weren't going to finish the job and that they never said they needed special permission to work on Saturday. Clearly there are communication difficulties. They were also very unresponsive once the first installment had been paid and they had a contract.
As for the work itself, it was mostly ok.....I do have some dead grass strips, unevenly trimmed bushes and some nice lilies which they killed, but the worst of it is the hassle it caused me in listing my house.
There are definitely some good and reliable landscaping companies out there. Unfortunately Midwest Grounds is NOT one of them.
"Midwest Grounds does agree that the work did not get completed in the time frame requested. The employees sent to the project were fully aware of the deadline for completion. These employees took it upon themselves not to complete the project on time. They left the job site on Friday evening just because they did not want to stay late. They were also aware that it was Friday when they told the customer they would be back tomorrow. At no point in time were they told they could not work on Saturday. They did not tell any manager at all they were not complete. If any of the management team would have known the job was not complete, the employees would have be "allowed" to finish the project on Saturday. Due to the obvious maliciousness of these two employees; they are no longer employed at Midwest Grounds. At no time was Midwest Grounds not responsive to the (removed member name) calls. Terry Patton, the sales representative got a message from (removed member name) on Monday and immediately returned her call. After the project was completed (removed member name) gaves us no inclination of dissatisfaction of the quality of work. It was not until we read this review that any comment was made of any problem with quality. We would have addressed any quality problems immediately. Many times we attempted to make contact with the (removed member name) with no response until the final invoice was received by her. She has been apologized to many times, but regardless of the project being completed late, a final payment is still due. There was no agreement to penalties against Midwest Grounds for not completing this job by her deadline. We do have many happy and loyal customers and we are a reliable company. It was an unfortunate outcome for both the customer and us as a company due to two unreliable and misleading employees."
10/2011- I turned off the shut off valve to the irrigation system in prep to have it winterized and the entire plumbing connection blew apart flooding my basement. I have a different company repairing the work now and will then winterize it.
I would never recommend Midwest Grounds to anyone!!!
"[member name removed] was made fully aware of the location of the backflow device. She was also made fully aware of the size of the device. She also agreed to the location. After it was installed it was just bigger than what she had imagined. She was also advised that if we moved it to a different location it would be an additional charge because she agreed to the original location. The backflow was moved to a location inside the house. It did empty water into her basement but that was do to her improper shut down of the water. She did not shut off the water line she turned off the back side of the backflow device. When this is done the backflow dumps the water due to putting pressure on the front side of the device. No pipe or connection was broken, just an improper shutoff valve was closed."
