The details: In mid-May I asked for an estimate to restore attachment of a service line to a rental property. Text message on May 12th from provider indicated he would get there the next day. Never received an estimate. My job had me out of town for 30 days. When I returned in mid-July I was shocked to see that I was invoiced for $428 for work I never was given the opportunity to consent to. Since I was out of town, my husband paid the bill. I immediately texted provider expressing surprise that he never provided an estimate and charged for work I never authorized. When I then went to the property in question to view the repair - it was never done! I explained to the gal who answers the phone what I was charged for unauthorized work they didn't do (at least to my house). I told her they were paid and I expect the work to be done. I spoke with her several times and left voice messages to no avail. When I finally get provider on the phone. He tells me 'I should have called' - really!? He agrees to swing by and look at the situation. He finally confirms August 3rd work was not completed as I had repeatedly been saying. He says it won't take long to complete the work. Repair is finally completed that week. I look at the repair and the invoice and see a disparity: was invoiced for 'replace weather head and service cable' yet neither of these items were replaced - the cable was simply re-attached to the house. Via email and phone communications over the past 4 weeks I have requested a review and reimbursement for over-charges. After no response, at my insistence August 27th office person speaks with provider who instructs her to tell me that he will call me to discuss - with the caveat 'he is super busy'. A week later I ask for a status update and remind them of my request for a review of disparity between charges and work performed and that they do not need to call if they are too busy, but I do expect review to be completed. It is now September 8th and 1) provider has never called and 2) apparently has never completed the review of charges I requested a month ago after work was finally completed - on an invoice paid 2 months earlier for work I never authorized. Bizarre..... I routinely work with every kind of contractor. I have never encountered this level of unprofessionalism in over 9 years as a property manager / rehabber. The sad part is company was previously owned by a very reputable and professional electrician who did a lot of work for me and who I previously gave a very positive Angie's List review for. Clearly today is a new day and I will be taking my business elsewhere.
for the service. Additionally, I loved using a local provider rather than anational chain. I highly recommend their work.
We've never had to have any of these electricians come back afterwards to fix a problem; however we are convinced that they stand behind their work, and if we did have a problem, they would make sure that we were satisfied before they consider the job finished. Without a doubt, if we needed electrical work done, we would call them again.
room, a telephone line, a new electrical line for my circuit box and
installed a sign in my window. He performed carpentry work to create a
lighted box so that the sign in the window really shows up nicely at
night and put in a timer so that the sign goes on and off as needed.
Lee also left the place cleaner than he found it! I highly recommend
Lee for his excellent service and results.
The first electrician I had called (also on Angie's List) asked few questions and submitted a bid for rewiring that was 50% higher than Lee's. After detailed discussion with Lee, I knew I had found the right man. His questions and the way he listened to me gave me confidence that we were doing what needed to be done and no more. I'm really glad Lee inspected the second floor bedrooms (which weren't part of my original request) because he found the reversed polarity and the and quot;groundedand quot; recepticles on an ungrounded circuit that weren't correct according to code.
I needed the job done rather quickly because I had already signed with an Energy Alliance contractor who was going to blow celulose insulation into the walls. Lee was able to fit me into his busy schedule and get it all done in one day. I followed them around all day and was really impressed with their work. Much of Lee's work is on old houses like mine and I think he enjoys the challenge.
Lee was a little hard to get ahold of initially (he doesn't check his voice mail very often) and I am so glad I was persistant! I will never use anyone else as long as I live in this house!
