Well, it only took 4 years for parts of the wall to fall apart. I had a stone guy come out and do his best for $800 to reset some stones and try to clean up the joints. He said that it needs to be completely torn down and rebuilt. Cost.....approximately $3,000-4,000. The stone mason also said that if it had been built properly to begin with that there should be no reason why it shouldn't last for a very long time. I'm not sure if I can share my pictures on angle's list, but they probably wouldn't do it justice. These guys are good at plants and perhaps hardscapes that don't require masonry work. Go hire a real stone mason if you want a wall in the landscaping. It's a sore subject every time somebody new comes over and comments on what happened to the wall.
UPDATE: October 2011 - They came out and made repairs to the wall. It appeared that it was repaired, but then I had a stone mason inspect the work. The stone mason said that the repairs were not made correctly, and that the wall will fall apart again in the future. I'm considering my options at this point, but will probably not have this contractor do any more stone wall work for me in the future. However, they are very talented in other aspects of landscaping, and I would recommend their work from that standpoint. Just don't use them for stone work or brick pavers. Responsiveness and finishing the job has not been their strong suit.
