"Thank you for your feedback. We review each project on a project-by-project basis to determine if our company is a good fit in regard to scope and schedule. Unfortunately, our schedule and your timeframe did not align. When you reached out to us earlier this year, we informed you we typically schedule several months out for new projects. We also communicated our requirement regarding a structural engineer for projects such as yours. A weblink to firms we refer to was provided to assist you with locating a licensed professional. The decision however is up to the homeowner as to which engineer to move forward with, if at all. You later provided our office with a copy of your report from the firm you had selected. In the report the engineer recommended designs for your project. In addition, the engineer requested to be considered for any design work you would elect to move forward with and proposed a fee of $2,500. Again, the decision to hire an engineer and pay for designs is up to the homeowner and independent of Hughes Construction. We offered to review the designs if you elected to obtain them to see if the project was something we could assist you with. In order to quote the project our office would need to see designs from a licensed engineer. Our office received your designs in June, at that time you had indicated that you needed the project done immediately. In response we informed you we were scheduling into next year and we could not accommodate completing the project immediately. We did mention that if your timing was flexible, we could take another look at the project and see about providing you with a quote for the work."
What they didn't see was the amount of detail and coordination Tyler put into the work he installed. He had to have a city license, a city permit and a city inspection all lined up before he could pour concrete. He also had to survey the property, demo a fence, demo a curb, demo a sidewalk, move an air conditioner condensing unit (which he built a platform for and hung from my house) and haul away several yards of topsoil before he could even begin prepping for the concrete placement (which included compacting the sub-grade, installing edge forms, installing gravel sub base and then compacting the sub base). With all of that said, he showed up on a Wednesday and was done on Friday. so much for that project being a headache. No extra costs, no hidden fees, no surprises during construction, no waiting on a "piece or a part". Just experience and hard work!...Would recommend for any project.
doing a good job for us, but more concerned about doing the right job
for our house. We appreciated their work ethics and professionalism.
GREAT JOB, guys!
After the engineer came, he recommended another company to do some slab jacking for our porch which Hughes does not currently do. I did contract Hughes to fill a crack in the basement wall though. He was punctual, professional, friendly, and was the lowest bid. Could not ask for more.
The old basement was dark, with old paneling, cracked foundation, bad lighting etc.
Hughes tore out the paneling, insulated, installed drywall, redid the ceilings. Along the way this also involved electrical and plumbing work, which they coordinated and handled. I did not have to source and manage any of the subcontractors.
The new basement is now livable, comfortable, and functional. We have an office, a laundry room, and a rec room that we love. It's clean, bright, and no longer a "dark cave". We are thrilled with the results.
Working with Hughes is always a great experience. Tyler and his crew are professional, punctual, respectful of your home. They do excellent work, leave the job site in great condition, and are creative with solutions to potential issues that may come up during the project. I would recommend them to anyone.
