The first time we went we took the dog and we thought it would be about $200 to get his shots all caught up and it ended up being over $400 which was a surprise. They are pretty expensive. They are very nice and very good. We take our two dog and cat there. They have an extra fee where all the dogs shots for their life would be paid for. The $10 is for the vet tech time, nothing else. That is handy, pretty good. I don't feel that they were very upfront about costs and I did not like that. They should have been clearer with us about the costs.
However, if you feed a raw diet and/or follow a minimal vaccination protocol, expect to have to explain why every time you visit, sometimes multiple times during a visit. The staff and vets are nice and knowledgeable but follow a more conventional veterinary approach, which probably meets most of their clients' needs perfectly. I like that they take client education seriously, but it's been very frustrating to be questioned on it each visit. For the most part I've been happy with them, if a little frustrated, until recently.
Before my first visit with my new puppy, I called ahead and asked if they would vaccinate for *only* distemper and parvo. I was assured by the front desk staff that they could do this. I then confirmed with both the tech who did my intake and the veterinarian that I wanted to vaccinate only for distemper and parvo. I did not check the vaccine bottle ahead of time, which I should have, because instead of a distemper/parvo vaccine, they gave him a 5-way combination vaccination instead (yes, distemper and parvo are included, but so are three other vaccines). I realized the mistake when I was looking at my records before his follow-up appointment, and when I asked the tech at that appointment, she told me that they do not give vaccines exclusively for distemper and parvo, and was unaware that they were on the market. She did politely ask why I only wanted to vaccinate for those two diseases. I opted to forgo the vaccinations, and the tech was apologetic, suggesting that I order the vaccine myself (an option I proposed, since she didn't think they could obtain the one I wanted) and bring it to a later appointment for them to administer. No charge for that day's visit.
So, to sum up, they're great people and really good vets, but I will be looking for a vet who really understands raw feeding and minimal vaccine protocols, and who offers titers at reasonable prices instead of the exorbitant ones their lab currently charges. If I can't find a vet that meets those criteria, I will continue seeing them, but will be much more careful in my communication with them.
