For example, while using Internet Explorer, I suddenly encountered problems with the Calendar function. When opened, it would flash repeatedly and could not be read or updated. In the end, CCC did not know why it did that and could not correct it. Their solution was to switch over to Goggle Chrome when I needed my Calendar. I was already doing that when I brought the laptop in and did not want to have to change between the two every time I needed my Calendar. It created numerous problems. Bing had become a default over Google for searching and CCC made the easy adjustment in one place and not the other. Having to switch between IE and Chrome created several other inconsistencies as well and required me to re-do favorites, logons, etc. so that I could use both. Basically, it has made Calendar very hard to use and sync with my phone. In the clean up process, my toolbars changed and now it is harder for me to navigate in both IE and Chrome without taking extra steps. Running both IE and Chrome is not a viable solution.
Another issue I had been having involved the fingerprint logon. After I had tried to add a family member, it worked for some programs but not others. Since I was bringing the laptop in, it seemed like a good time to correct that. CCC seemed unfamiliar with the feature and despite a lot of trial and error, the situation remains unresolved.
One of the more important issues that I had was that when I backed up my laptop to my external hard drive, I received a message indicating an error had been encountered. I saw message logs that said zero files had been copied. This represented a critical concern because I use the hard drive to ensure irreplaceable digital photos aren't lost. The CCC tech turned off my Norton backup, which did not have adequate storage space anyway, made a onetime backup to Windows, and said everything was working with my hard drive. However, I tried to back-up to my hard drive today for the first time since the repair and got the identical error message. I looked at the error log and it was 32 pages long. I have no comfort level that my files are being backed up fully and correctly.
Although I paid in full for the repair service, I still have the most pressing issues and will have to take the laptop somewhere else shortly. This is very disappointing and frustrating. In looking for a new service provider, I am going to try to find a place that has more techs so that if one is unfamiliar with something or cannot resolve an issue, perhaps another can. At CCC, I only observed and interacted with 1 repair person.
