Called for service appointment, next available time was two days later.  I provided all model and serial number information, this allowed the tech to have the right parts when he arrived.  I removed the oven (mounted over the cook top) and had it ready for him to work on.  Received automated call that service tech was on his way, he arrived promptly.  Service tech was courteous and efficient, diagnosed the problem quickly and effectively and explained needed repair.  The primary item (magnetron tube) was covered by warranty.  He replaced the parts and installed the microwave.  His total time here was about one hour.
The only issue was cost.  Parts were covered by regular warranty, $290 for a service call and labor for repair seems extremely high for this job.  A more reasonable charge would be about half that amount.

They wouldn't give me an estimate for at least what the charge would be to come out. The customer service rep was very nice but could only do so much based on GE's policies. It was the worst experience I have ever had with a company over the phone. I went with another company.

I was amazed that a major company could handle a serious service issue so badly. My tenant was even accused of breaking the stove and I was accused of not installing it properly. When service finally arrived two weeks after the first incident, the repair took twenty minutes and was under warranty.

THE COMPANY DID NOT SHOW UP AND DID NOT CALL ON THE SCHEDULED DAY. THEY CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO SAY THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART (EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD NOT YET BEEN TO THE HOUSE) AND RESCHEDULED FOR A WEEK LATER, A LONG TIME TO BE WITHOUT ICE. THEY FOUND THAT THE ICEMAKER WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO DID NOT CHARGE FOR THE PARTS BUT DID CHARGE FOR THE LABOR. $200 SEEMS LIKE A LOT TO DO WARRANTY WORK!

I SET UP THIS APPOINTMENT OVER THE INTERNET ON THE WEEKEND AND THE REPAIR PERSON CAME ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY! DID THE WORK VERY QUICKLY AND SUCCESSFULLY. HE WAS A LITTLE LATE, BUT CONSIDERING THE WAY I SCHEDULED THE APPOINTMENT I WAS HAPPY WITH THE CALL.
