Rodney was great though he needed some prodding. He replaced part of my gutter topper for free as a test to see if that would solve a gutter problem i have. Their priced was at least $1000 below either of the other 2 I received and the quality was just as good.
In May of 2011, we contracted with Forest Park Roofing (FPR) for installation of a new roof on our home. Work was initiated that summer.
After all the original roofing was removed (Leaving only the bare roof joists), the contractor crew decided that the day was too hot to continue work and knocked off around 1PM. Upon returning home late that afternoon and noting that a summer thunderstorm was imminent, I attempted to contact FPR, but to no avail.
When the rain started, there was nothing to stop it from entering the attic storage areas and the exterior of the upstairs bedroom drywall, all of which suffered water damage. When I finally was able to contact FPR, they simply commented ?They shouldn?t have left the roof unprotected?. Presumably, ?They? refers to the un-supervised FPR contractors. They returned that evening and partially covered the roof with plastic moisture guard. I would emphasize ?partially covered?. Had there been another storm later that night, additional damage would have occurred since the roof was left still not fully protected.
FPR did pay for the drywall repair, replacement and painting. They also reimbursed me for over $500 worth of books that were stored in the attic and ruined by the rainwater. I was not reimbursed for the inconvenience of arranging the drywall repair, the time it took to inventory, price, and dispose of the books, nor for the time that it took to otherwise clean up the mess in the attic areas which were fully exposed to the storms effects.
Following ?completion? of the roof work and receipt of the bill, I noticed some exposed roofing and mismatched shingles at the north ridge line of the roof. This was obviously and simply work that had not been completed. FPR did complete the work, at least to an acceptable visual standard (See below) once this was pointed out. No explanation was given for the fact that the work was uncompleted at the time of billing.
Several months later, in the spring of 2012, an interior leak developed around an attic skylight. FPR sent a contractor out to effect a repair, who commented that ?They shouldn?t have used that type of shingle around a skylight- those always leak?.
Later that year, we noticed water stains in the first floor dining room upper wall. Again, once contacted, FPR sent a contractor out to effect a repair. Besides re-shingling an area of the new roof, additional painting was also required on the 1st floor as a result of this leak.
In November of 2013, we had a home inspection performed prior to putting the house on the market for sale. The inspection notes included the following: ? Improper installation of shingles along the ridge lines and at the shed [Dormer] roof- The ridge shingles are missing and not installed correctly at small left side ridge and at right side of upper roof and the shed roof shingles do not have proper reveal and may not seal down as designed by the manufacturer. Shingles are not covering the valley flashings at the lower areas near gutters- Corrections required?
Again, FPR made repairs once contacted.
In summary, we found that Forest Park Roofing completes their work using contract labor which was apparently totally unsupervised by FPR, and whose work was obviously never inspected for proper execution, quality of workmanship, or even completion. While FPR did repair and reimburse me for the damage to my home and property caused by their shoddy and incomplete work, I would rather chose to deal with a company which would not create these issues to begin with. I would certainly never again deal with FPR nor recommend them to others.
Workman showed up 3 weeks later without calling first. They were unaware that the contract included some brick and mortar repairs, but when told about it they did those repairs. The contract included a stainless steel chimney cap which the salesman said would need to be custom ordered since the size was not standard. Workman arrived with an off the shelf galvanized cap
and tried to install it. Fortunately it did not fit. They returned a month later (again without calling first) to install the proper flue cap. Workman used a leaf blower to blow debris from roof, but failed to clean it all off the ground. I had to pick up numerous large chunks of brick and concrete from the lawn before mowing. Other than that, the quality of the work was acceptable.
They were timely in this matter, but it did cause a big problem with the closing.
