I found him through the City of Cincinnati website.  He came over gave me an estimate, and we decided on a price.  We also had a signed contract.  He originally told me that it was a family-owned business, but I later found out that he sent over subcontractors.   They didn’t start on time and he also increased the price 1-2 days before the job was to start.  I stayed on site and observed that the crew left around 12 noon.  I called him and didn’t hear back from him until Sunday morning at 3:00 am.  Sunday morning was beyond the contract date, but I still went there on Monday because I wanted the work done.  He hit on me and asked me to go to a concert with him.  Even though they were behind schedule, he gave his crew the day off so they could go to the concert.  After I came back from my two week honeymoon, he still hadn’t finished the job and still tried to bill me for the entire job.  I also had numerous harassing messages from the subcontractors.  I sent him a letter letting him know that I no longer wanted him on my property. He still continued to send me invoices.  I called back one of the subcontractors and he explained that Dutch Home Painting had given him a bad check and told me the amount that he was getting paid, which wasn’t even half of what I had paid.  Dutch Home Painting filed a lien against my property.  I hired a lawyer and I’m currently waiting to see if he’s going to remove the lien or file a suit.  Everything, from the price, to the timeline, to his obligations to guarantee that the work was done, was horrible.

Dutch Home Painting was on the job over a month and only got approximately 1/3 of the work completed. Employees would show up when they wanted and left whenever they wanted. Fred Kropveld, as I later found out was a Contractor and subbed out all of his work. Surface preparation was terrible, employees painted over bare wood,  with out primer coat being applied as written in the contract. They brought in a 18,000 lb. JLG lift and broke up concrete and rutted the yard. I had to get the Cincinnati Heath Dept involved to make them clean up the lead paint chips they left everywhere. (Fred Kropveld claimed to be a lead paint expert) The body of the house was sprayed and overspray was everywhere especially on the new roof I had just installed. Fred had Porter Paint  professionals there on three occasions to try and help with removal of peeling paint and preparation. Altogether a bad experience, they were fired and I am looking for a new contractor. Damages tto the lawn and concrete have yet to be resolved.

People cleaning the deck had to come back because they didn't clean areas that the contractor promised would be cleaned. Then, because of rain there was a long delay in staining. When there was good weather his workers were painting and couldn't stain our deck. When they did stain our deck it was uneven.
The company is a paint company and seems to be more interested in painting than staining decks. The owner of the company was not seen again after the contract was signed.

WILLING TO WORK WEEKEND TO ACCOMMODATE OUR MOVE-IN SCHEDULE. FRED ALWAYS RETURNED OUR CALLS PROMPTLY. WALLS AND CEILING WORK FINE. VERY POOR PAINTING OF TRIM. SLOPPY, THICK. WE ASKED THEM NOT TO FINISH JOB.
