This review is long overdue. Our front door was an eyesore to the house and more importantly leaked cold air all winter long. The entire 9' entry way was scratched and in bad shape. After receiving a quote to replace it for $20k we decided to look into restoring it. Matt was able to restore the entry way and stop some of the air leakage. It makes our entire house look much more inviting! The process did take a bit longer than we expected but it was well worth the wait. It is absolutely gorgeous and it took a craftsman to recreate the original state of the door. The pictures speak for themselves.

I don't get angry with providers very often but this one pushed my buttons.  We had an appointment (9:00-10:00am) for him to pick up our door, refinish it, and install a "replacement door".  We selected him from three similar providers because he provided the replacement door, not just something to board up the front entry.

He didn't show up by 10:30 which greatly disrupted our morning.  I called him and left a message.  He called back in 15 minutes and apologized.  He said he had a delivery that went long and was just getting finished.  (He could have called or emailed!)  I calmly said it was fine and he said he'd be at our home "within the hour".

1 hour and 20 minutes later he arrived, and we thought we'd be fine.  Then he prepared to install the replacement door.  Essentially, he was going to board up our entry way for two weeks with an insert.  Maybe this is standard--but he had said he would give us a replacement door.  I got angry and shouted out my definition of a door.  He said he didn't need to be yelled at (he's got me there), and left.

I can't comment on the quality of his work but he was entirely unprofessional in his handling of the appointment.  Even before he finally arrived, my wife and I were concerned about his dependability.  And he misrepresented the replacement.   I feel bad about getting angry but he wasted our Saturday morning and hours of time choosing him.  And we chose him because he said he provided a replacement door.

We were very satisfied with the work, and would recommend Door Restore to anyone. Friends have driven by and noticed how nice the door looks... from the street. It looks even nicer close up... probably better than new.
The experience was excellent in all aspects - scheduling, punctuality, professionalism and communication.
Matt will warn you that his process leaves a thick finish that can fill in some details on the woodworking. I've uploaded pictures to show that I think he over-warns on this issue... I don't have any concern about how the door looks finished.

Excellent experience. Matt showed up to get the door when he said he would, did an excellent job securing the entrance and delivered the door earlier than promised. It looks fantastic and i would definitely use him again.

Matt Eggenberger arrived with an assistant to dismount the doors. In less than an hour, they were packed in his truck and replaced with a sturdy plywood cover that he insulated with stick-on foam strips to prevent air leakage . The doors were discolored, faded and peeling. Some parts of the finish were lumpy from multiple coats of varnish. He stripped and restrained the doors a soft mahogany color. Both matched perfectly. He told me he uses a sealer on top of the stain before applying 6 coats of marine grade finish, sanding between each coat. He returned in 2 weeks to reinstall the doors, remounting the hardware, which I had refinished. He had added new rubber sweeps to the bottoms of the doors. Everything fit and worked perfectly. These doors cost $2600 in 1996 when they were first installed. Refinishing made them like new again and cost half that much. I am very satisfied. He guarantees his work 3 years.
