My parents paid $1231 for a job that has to be redone--per two reputable flooring professionals that were consulted too late. Basically, the adhesive never set.  It is oozing out of the seam and there are air bubbles everywhere on the floor. When the air bubbles first appeared, he came back within 5 days to "fix" the problem by rolling the floor with a BAKERS rolling pin. My parents also insisted that he fix a seam in the floor so that the pattern in the vinyl was properly aligned.  There are rough cut areas around the edges of the baseboard and a gauge where he dropped the refrigerator when moving it.  He fixed the mismatched seam, but when he was called a second time about the air bubbles, my parents were told the air bubbles were a result of them not calling him within 3 days to fix the floor again.  He offered to lay more flooring for "free" if my parents paid for the flooring.  If my parents had to buy more flooring, they certainly were not going to give him a chance to botch it up again.
Further, his original estimate was for Armstrong vinyl at $2.74/sq ft.  He offered to buy the flooring at Lowe's because he had a discount. When he got to Lowe's, he called my mother and said the pattern she had previously picked had to be ordered and it would take 10 days.  If she approved, he could purchase a similar vinyl that was in-stock at Lowe's, but it was an upgrade and would run about $100 more total for the 176 sq ft kitchen and he could install it that very day.  She said sure.  My mom even liked the new pattern better than the one she picked out, but liking the pattern better could not make up for all the air bubbles in the flooring.  (Not to mention, the warranty on the floor is void if not installed properly.)  When we had the 2 other flooring professionals look at the floor installed by DHMS, they asked for the model # and brand name of the flooring. When we went to Lowes and found the vinyl that was installed, we discovered that he installed IVC Brand flooring at $.87/sq ft.  Interesting how this price decrease was not reflected in the amount my parents paid him, but the $100 increase for the "upgraded" vinyl was reflected in the final price.  Enough said?
