Today is Monday and we were up early waiting for them to call to say they were on their way. At 9am we phoned the office and no answer. We kept trying then did reach someone who did not know when they would arrive. By 12:30pm the same response, no window of time, and the uneasy feeling, we canceled the job. If there was a clear explanation of them being on another job and to expect them in a certain amount of time, if they told us they were moving an entire house and we were scheduled for the end of the day, but for us to sit waiting, they led us to think we were early. We know jobs can run over but communication was entirely lacking and now I am terribly worried about damage to my furniture once we uncover things.
I know people have had good reviews, but a real business will tell you upfront if they take cash only, and what time to expect them. As a police wife and mother, I did not feel comfortable one bit.
The reason I will likely not use them again was because they scratched the hardwood floor in one of the rooms where they were moving a filing cabinet from one side of the room to another. I was in the room at the time and saw immediately how his movements with the filing cabinet caused the scratch. I showed the scratch to the mover who did it right after it happened, and he initially said that the scratch was already there. I told him that the floors had been refinished less than a year ago and that there were no scratches there prior to his arrival. He went out and spoke to his coworker, who was apparently his superior. His coworker came in and looked at the scratch, and between the two of them essentially called me a liar. There was a larger, deeper scratch in another place in the same room, but after initially thinking that it was their doing I came to the conclusion that my father had accidentally done it in an attempt to help, so I told them they were responsible only for the first scratch, not the second one.
I tried to be as polite as possible when the subordinate continued to deny that he moved the filing cabinet in such a way that he cause the scratch (when I was standing there and saw the scratch occur) and implied that I was lying. Finally I found out that the reason that they were less than enthusiastic for taking responsibility for their damage was because their parent company had a $500 deductible and that any damage/repairs less than that came out of their (the movers') pockets.
I told the senior mover to file the claim and I would get 3 quotes. It turned out that the entire room would have to be sanded and re-sealed at significant expense, and it would be difficult to break down the cost between the scratch caused by my father and theirs, so I decided to let the matter drop since there was a chance that there would be more scratches with regular use over time.
The reason I will not use them again is because I did not appreciate being treated as a liar when it was patently obvious that the mover had scratched the floor. If this incident had not turned out the way it had, I would definitely have considered using them again. They were efficient, did a good job taking instructions and did a reasonable job communicating with me throughout the process.
