Overall their work to date has been extremely careful, appears to be of excellent quality, and has resulted in very specific information for me as a homeowner about the status of my home's electrical. The only area where I gave them a "B" was on price because they seem a little expensive, but I would have given them an A- or B+ if intermediate 'grades' were available. The Current Safe diagnostic results in a report that offers the homeowner a complete picture in writing accompanied by photos showing the status of all the home's electrical systems and outlets. The final report includes both items tested where problems were found and also where no problems were detected. Upon completion of the diagnostic, the report becomes immediately available, and is carefully reviewed with the customer by the electrician who performed the diagnostic - in this case Ted - and also subsequently by the manager of the program, Mike, who is also a licensed electrician. Ted was careful while performing the diagnostic - since I was around the home - to point out any really serious problems, and to explain their significance to me. In reviewing the report with me, Mike also was clear about which issues were the most problematic, and they clearly will work with the customer to prioritize repairs, and work out a payment plan if the owner requires that. So, although I read some critiques of their costs, I think they are very customer-oriented both in the way they approach organizing the work itself, and also in their willingness to schedule payments and the work from a financial standpoint. My questions were all very carefully answered, including questions I had about matters such as the risk of finding aluminum wiring in a home built when mine was; I received a very informative narrative regarding the real issues with aluminum wiring and the 'gold standard' approach for repairing that problem if it arises (which does not necessarily require tearing out walls). I did not have an issue after all with small aluminum wiring, but I offer this as an example that all questions have been responded to with great care. Both Mike and Ted have taken the time to educate me regarding various electrical concepts and matters pertinent to the electrical situation in my home, and in response to my questions. The Current Safe report is an excellent vehicle for segueing into actual work because it allows for the customer to be very clear about the specific work that is being agreed to, and the problem that has been identified. The diagnostic also caught problems such as an outdoor electrical issue in the wiring running from the street to the house, an overheating wire that Duke Energy will need to repair after Cooper has completed their part of the connection. Cooper was also very responsive regarding helping me to schedule some additional electrical work in a timely manner that is preparatory to other contractors being able to do their work (e.g. overhead outlets in garage for new garage doors). The actual work that they will be doing pursuant to the Current Safe diagnostic is just now being scheduled, and is too lengthy to fully elaborate here, but it comes with a very good warranty. Generally, this work will include projects such as replacing worn and/or hazardous outlets, repairing breakers on the electrical panel damaged by water intrusion, sealing and properly grounding outdoor wiring, adding Ground Fault outlets in damp areas, installing an updated system of smoke/CO detectors, installing surge protection, and much else. They have kindly made some helpful suggestions about other related home matters that have arisen as well - e.g. recommending a place of quality from which to purchase replacement exterior lighting for the home. I feel very confident in their excellent skills as electricians and find them to be very respectful of their customers, and enjoyable to work with. This is an area of home repairs where I prefer to pay a little extra and be certain that the work is being handled in a safe and highly competent professional manner; a couple of problem electrical spots in the home that were pointed out to me during the diagnostic appeared to be the result of someone having tried to take a shortcut with some either unskilled or DIY electrical work. So I would recommend Cooper to anyone and not be deterred by their prices; I feel that taking shortcuts with this kind of highly skilled work can be very costly and regrettable. I am very pleased to have found their services.
